Orderly goats They had the whole road until they'd forced us to stop the car to let them pass! What was interesting was that there was no one with them.
jesuitical Let's get a good string going here... I have always used the word "jesuitical" in its meaning of strict concordance with canonical law, and I am sorry to say that it has found its way into work e-mails on the interpretation of EM, Commissioners Rules and so on. However Mrs Peacock (once a Catholic, as they say) leans towards an alternative interpretation as the subtle use of casuistry, equivocation. As you can imagine, the long winter evenings fly by. For further reading on a Jesuit schooling see James Joyce, A portrait of the artist as a young man.
Sorry about the dogs, try to think of them as large guinea pigs, but that's probably worse.
Jesuits I certainly agree that the Jesuits were always known primarily for their educational efforts and individual members have often taken quite radical positions within the church, especially in Latin America where the Society has become synonymous with liberation theology in some parts. But overall they have mainly been identified with papal authority and disciplined organisation and as you have pointed out have taken a strong missionary and evangelical stance. They like to see themselves as something of an elite within the church, I would say
Well, I did say I didn`t know anything about them! Maybe it was the wrong choice of words but it was certainly the impression the guide gave. I obviously understand that their ultimate aim was to convert all local people into Catholics which isn`t really that liberal, I guess, but maybe Ross should tell us some more.....
truly awesome... ...to join in with the lingo. Great pictures, amazing falls, good to keep up with your travels. Shame about the fever, luggage, knees and so on. We are off to Friesland tomorrow, hoping for a less eventful journey. Probably no waterfalls either, too flat.
Stress? You have no idea of the meaning of the word... Try getting the builders in. Sorry I haven't been in touch much recently but things have been pretty hectic (as I'm sure you've picked up from my occasional blog entries on my blog). Have moved back into the flat even though its not ready and so should have more access to the internet. I'll catch up on your entries and be in touch soon. Glad you're alright though even if you've got squashed legs... J x
Better than Salzburg's cows These certainly beat the cows I saw in Salzburg a few years ago. I'd have liked to go for Pongo but it's not on your list. Having toyed with the idea of Disco I've decided on Ena-Amorada. Just wild!
Moooo! Has to be Vaca Enamorada with Tomate a close second
Glad Sarah is recovering. Natalie had Dengue a couple of years ago, caught in Vietnam, and it really hit her for six.
Happy Birthday for next week Hugh!
Best wishes
Gary
Fun fun fun! Dengue Fever? Bed bugs? I am *so* going off this round-the-world thing!! Bring on the 5-star hotels, that's what I say!
The best cow is obviously Vaca "Ena-Amorada". Bold. And cheeky with it.
