Living and Working in Hong Kong

I moved to Hong Kong to work for and educational theatre company called Chunky Onion. I perform their repetoire of 9 shows in international and local schools all over Hong Kong and Macau.
I also teach drama, theatre and performance skills in schools and colleges all over hong Kong and Macau and also now run seminars for teachers on incorporating drama into their lessons.
These are stories and updates of my life here and my experiences on the other side of the world....

Updating this evening from the comfort of my new living room in my flat in Lai Chi Kok. I have moved in with Fran who has come out to Hong Kong to work for Chunky Onion and we'll be here now for at least the next year!! Feeling very settled now. I have been in Hong Kong for over 5 months now, and time is passing both slowly and ridiculously quickly. The though that I have been out in HK for almost half a year is crazy, its gone by so fast and yet week to week I have endless time to do work, chill out, see friends, do some ridiculous things... So since my last update when i returned from shanghai work has been great - have gained some amazing experiences, namely teaching teachers in ... read more

Working hard in Hong Kong i stumbled upon a blank week in the calendar. I leapt at the chance and booked the time off - straight to the travel agent and booked the flights for Shanghai - originally with China Eastern Airlines but ended up paying another $300HKD more to fly with Dragon Air - which was ok by me as 2 days after i made the change i saw a youtube clip of a china eastern airline plane's engine held on with duc-tape! so erm..good decision! The plan was to fly out on Monday 14th August early in the morning to have the whole day there. Staying with Emma and going with her to the Expo on a few days using a pass with someone on it who VAGUELY resembled me...wander about Shanghai for ... read more

Hmmmmm not sure when i wrote this but found it on my laptop and thought i would put it on. its a little incoherent but maybe it makes sense.... i think it has a lot to do with the ideas of impermanence and avoiding attachment....maye i'll try and write a clearer less garbled attempt later. Living in such a transient city has its ups and downs i guess. Knowing i am here for considerably longer than some of the friends i have made who i know are leaving at various points during my stay. It is an interesting adjustment to make. Knowing that people who you are getting to know - you might just reach that point of comfort with someone and they are gone. An ever changing set of friends. The result is a friendship ... read more

Week 5 time is beginning to pass quickly. i spent a lot of my 5th week running workshops in sha tin and kwun tong. the workshops are going well - first week being slightly slow as i have to try and get to know the kids. Its been great getting back into running workshops and discovering i can still do it quite naturally. managed to plan the next few weeks of sessions for different sets of workshops which ws cool. had some hilarious performances this week - especially thursday after a long early morning running workshops turned up for lunch and had robin hood in the afternoon - just hilarious. WEEKEND rugby sevens. SUNDAY plan was to meet at rich and stef's flat at about 8am woke about half 7 showered and got some music on ... read more
