Africa Hi Helen, pictures are wonderful, so are your tales. Am reading Obama's book about his dad's's family in Kenya, your observations are far better written than his. I remember how they used to put me (aged 12) on a little propeller plane in Livingstone to fly - all on my own - to Lusaka and boardng school. Steph has got into the 6th form college she applied for, so her exams should be a doddle, except for the dreaded Biology. Waiting in suspense for new nephew/niece to arrive, although Leif thinks it would be very practical if they all had the same birthday.
Lots of love, A+L+S
I love the fact that every adventure is full of anxiety provoking moments. Life back in England will feel like a walk in the park. Can't wait to experience it for ourselves! We have our jabs on thursday, wait for the screaming! Apprentice is back on Helen, they are a real group of dingbats this time round, already have scandle of a relationship an someone telling Sir Alan. Clare and boys xxxxxx
Matoke? Hi Helen - you may have explained what this is but I have forgotten. Why have you got fed up with it? Patrick xx
PS The No 1 Dectective's Agency is being serialised on TV as a follow on from the film - and it is wonderful and making me think of you every Sunday night. px
notes from our foreigh correspondant right, and this is very important. You are soon to eclipse Kate Adie as our go to girl for international commentary. Not only are you scribblings accurate , witty and un put downable -( i couldnt think of a computer related word - very heavy holding a computer as your read). You ar looking more and more at home in a windswept scarf and hat /safari look. I suggest that if you ever decide to return to civilisation that you hook up with big john Simpson. or the other one, fatter , uglier you know. Anyway you can provide the Glamor.
Lookin so so so forward to seeing you and having someone to get drunk with
Lots of love
Rik

David Attenborough would be proud...... ......hey lady - these are fantastic photo's and it sounds like a jolly good jaunt! Glad to see your anthropological studies are benefiting your fellow tourists as well as the animal kingdom! Jacob and Morgan are very excited by the Ugandan wildlife and want to get on the plane now! Love the Helen hat too - can I request some pic's of your new abode? And the gate that you are not allowed a key for so when you next ring me when you are banging on the door to be let into your own home I can visualise the full experience! Can't wait for Crimble too!!!
Safari Glad to hear you had a great trip - photos are wonderful (hat is too). Leif is ready to book his ticket to Africa, I think. We are also counting the days to Xmas - flying to NEWC on 18.12, flying back on 2.1. Will be wonderful to see you and hear more about your adventures. Stephanie got a super school report so is very smug and grown-up at the moment. Lots of love, Alison
properly amazing This really was the holiday of a lifetime. The magic was far greater than even these lovely pictures convey. And Helen, you were excellent company too
JPxxx
oh, and Douglas WAS the man!
Helen Lay you now look perfectly at home on safari!!! Obviously uganda suits you. We all can't wait to see you at Christmas. We went to fireworks on saturday. It was pissing down, but in the typical Brit way we refused to give in. Surprised the fireworks lit, but they are clearly made of stern stuff. Sam and Connor sat hi.
Lots of love from us all xxxxxxx
Hello lady,
You are practically a one woman human aid drive!. JUst thought I should let you know that I am reading and enjoying all fo your blogging - computer being a devil - slower than uganda broadband at the month so it takes hours to read an email. Anyway glad to see you are still living the high life. Just got back form italy yesterday (yes another holiday) would be lovely to catch up - can you skype on sunday?
Love rikxx
Adventurous Lady Very good blog lady, what adventures you are having. I am glad you clarified that you had not taken to eating expensive watches due to lack of adequate sustinence! I particularly enjoy the impending sense of doom you bring to all trips and journey's - Lovely angry/docile elephant photo's and stories and Indiana Duncan clearly is a good person to have in an emergency!! More please! lots of love Lizzy
Navision Well, this information-rich account appears to have stunned everybody into respectful silence. Good to hear that you're sticking to the non-profit side of things. Navision was originally a Danish accounting programme, bought out by Microsoft, sounds like you're blessed with one of the older versions. All is well here, Steph back at school next week. Weather is diabolical, the kind of heavy rain we used to have in Zambia, summer seems to have gone far too quickly. Will soon be square-eyed from too much Olympics (but Danes will soon all be out of the running for everything except handball and clay-pigeon shooting). Had to laugh at one of the footballers who won't be playing because the journey out gave him a bad back.
Love, Alison
and also Forgot to say just got back last night from Italy with The McShanes boys , had a lovely time with them and both look terrific and capture Italians imagination and breath with their regal beauty ...complimente they (the Ities) say to me when we were walking them around..naturally one can only smile and take the glory.Oh yes Rik and Lizzie were also in residence and I think they had a good time too!!
Gramaticus correctus I do appreciate that it is content rather than accuracy which is foremost in todays mind......CUE not Queue...as in on cue rather than on a queue.....I dont know if you ever read these , because one has to return to a previously posted blog to see if they have been selected for entry onto that blog , rather than excellently see that ones entry has reached the echelons when visiting the next blog arriving.Definitely an improvement in the offing.
Excellent wedding expose, far too many guests, carbohydrates, and talking.
Good news on the blood front ,well done....for gods sake woman its a pin prick.
Very good pictures, and please do one adrenalin (no e) event whilst en afrique... Vic falls , or otherwise ,bungee would be very cool.
Glad that work is now happening , again well done, hope you are making stringent cuts to balance the books and setting enough aside for the champers at the shareholders AGM.
Much love
Chas
Helen, I can't believe you didn't try white water rafting. You know you'll have to do it if we come and visit, Connor with his devil may care, I'll try anything that looks dangerous attitude won't be held back!!! The wedding looks amazing, all that pink!
It was great to talk to you at the weekend. Sam and Con thought it was brilliant. Eurovision wasn't the same without your scathing, caustic comments. There was a pirate song, which pleased all present, but me and Rik think there should be separate western and eastern european eurovision, with a head to head of winners, judged by Simon Cowell!!
Take care Lots of love us all xxxxxx
Languages og Uganda Hi Helen, wasn't there any dancing at the wedding, and could you please give us the run-down on the languages they speak/use in Uganda. Is Luganda widely spoken or is it a class/political thing? Read recently that Swahili is the lingua franca - or is that Kenya? As I'm so good at languages (shouts of derision in the distance) I'd really like to know more.
Love from Copenhagen
(Stephanie is on a school trip to Salzburg in Austria, have told her to avoid going into people's cellars)
female dominance The fears and insecurities which the ladies seem to exhibit are most sad, albeit no doubt now to be protested as in mere jest, but subconscious and buried demons are decloseting and nightmares of some bygone alpha experience are scratching at your elms.......cut out the diseased parts lest they infect and twist the newly emerging shoots . You do all have my sympathy...and may your god.ess..go with you.
That aside helen, sounds like youre still having a great time, really super photos of the locales ..more of this and less of them!.No dancing in appropriate costume for you then?
By the bye any proper work done yet or are the lads sorting it?
The McShane Boys were here for their 2nd and I think had a good time.Lots of Lays here also, and also seemed to have a good time cooing and gossiping.Great quantities of small sausage, sarnies and jelly and cake. Very sorry you werent here.
Boys behaved well and won the Duck Do by default...quack quack is the answer to your question....but hollered for" Mummy" when the ant/worm/woodlouse/..anything living.. made an appearance. No rain stopped play so God is clearly pleased with them.
Excellent news politically...Labour decimated (lost over 140 seats) in local council elections , and indeed lost the mayorality of London to good old Tory boy Boris ,all is coming good at last.Your poor Mum was incandescant and ...yes ...speechless...1st time I've seen this phenomenon!!
Take care
Much love
Chas
Female dominance Hi Helen, well you certainly seem to have landed on your feet there - in the right female-dominated environment to boot. Just the way it should be.
Who is Ian Clarke, by the way? Have you come across any mad Danes yet? I know there are quite a few sent out by Danida.
Love from Copenhagen xx
Headscarf Helen This is a plea for a picture of your hair sans headscarf - it's full glory has been hidden in BOTH photo's and I am suspicious. Do you have a bell? Did the monitor lizard eat it? Did the thunderstorm do untold damage to it's composition? We need an answer.........
Easter fun A very likely story! I particularly enjoyed the potential appearance of that noble beast, the monitor lizard! Laughed alot at that point xxxxx
