Thank You Lord for this Wonderful World Thank you for my eyes, wonderful eyes; that see smiling faces, blooming flowers, boundless balconies, blue skies, fluffy white clouds, dark threatening clouds, gorgeous gems, massive buildings, crowning castles, colossal churches, dainty delicate handcrafted delights, rushing rivers, palatial bastions, the beauty of the moon and "The Handsome Man". I haven't told the story of the handsome man. On my first morning in Budapest as I entered the elevator I joined a very handsome man, attired for business; he had a radiant smile and sparkling eyes. I just had to speak to him, "My you are certainly handsome. " "Thank you"' he replied, starting to blush. I responded, "Oh look, now I've made you blush" , he blushed even deeper. " Here you are, trapped in the elevator with me" ... read more

Last night on the way back to the hotel I stop by the grocery store and picked up a bottle of red wine to keep me company while I pack for my return trip home. Boo who. This trip has been far too short. I decided to return to St. Anne church for Mass; Budapest, Batthyány tér 7, the pipe organ was playing it's deep rich tones and was accompanied by a choir with robust strong voices. I noticed a woman sitting at the end of the aisle; she has stark white hair pulled back rather severely, she's probably 90 and has her hands folded fervently in her lap. Her hands reflect hands that have worked soil, kneaded bread and wiped away many a tear. During the sermon the priest must of been relating a humorous ... read more

This morning as I was heading out I passed by the gallery and saw Andrea again. I inquired how her swimming party with her friends had gone the day before. She was very animated and excited to report that they had a wonderful time, played poker, and she was the big, big, big winner. Because of her grand winnings she was having a party Sunday which happens to be Children's day, the compliment to Mother's Day. I reported to her about the birthday card dilemma, and she replied," we don't really do birthday cards, we do small gifts or party." Well that explains it. Having already decided that I will be returning to Budapest, my pace has slowed to one of strolling and pure enjoyment in every site I see. Heading towards that Museum of Terror I take a new direction away from my hotel. Attention to detail is evident in everything. From front doors carved and crafted of massive pieces of wood to ironwork; the ironwork is arduously crafted. From accordion gates which provide security with details over the top, to balconies in courtyards and window grates encasing gorgeous giant red geraniums, craftsmanship prevails. Public places are everywhere, statues abound. New plantings are popping up all over the city. You can see some public workers that I caught in the act of pretty-fying a square near the hotel. More commentary on that public transportation; the trams are painted bright ... read more

When I awoke I was a bit brokenhearted, I did not hear from Sylvia, I tried to reach her to no avail, so needed to regroup and make a plan for the day. I had no appointments or reservations so just took my time in getting ready for the day. The photo from yesterday depicting the beautiful canapés in the window drove me to a small obsession today. But more about that later. I started the day late just barely getting to the dining room as they were closing, about 10 o'clock, had a very good but quick breakfast. I returned to my room to retrieve my stuff for the day, then headed down the street towards the transportation hub which is just about half a block from the hotel. Only made it to the very ... read more

Last night I retired early and lay on the bed for a while working with my pictures and on my blog. When I decided to turn out the light it was about 8:30. I started hearing a noise an annoying beep beep beep, beep beep beep; I remembered that I had seen a memo on the desk from the hotel that said , Dear Guests, We would like to apologize for any inconvenience the maintenance work on the front of the hotel may cause, please pay special attention to closing your curtains to protect your privacy as contractors may have access to your window from the outside." I assumed there was some barrier marking and feeling too tired to deal with the situation at the time I grabbed my noise reduction headphones and slept wearing ... read more

Awoke and left for the airport at 7:00 a.m. Flew Scandinavian Airlines with a connection in Copenhagen. Beautiful opportunity to get some pictures of those vibrant canola fields I've been describing. Flights uneventful. Arrive Budapest and first thing that catches my eye are the roofs. They are beautiful, covered with decorative tiles which I am sure I will discover more about as I explore this beautiful city. Staying at Novotel Danube and the view of the Parliament from my room is very impressive. I have been on the go from early morning until late (up til after 1:00 blogging, etc) for 10 days and I finally hit the wall. Fall down in bed tired. Had a late lunch in the hotel and just crashed. Awoke this morning refreshed and ready for a new adventure, full of ... read more

Enjoyed a breakfast of muesli & croissant with double espresso; the hotel has a beautiful buffet each morning and the staff was very attentive. The breakfast room was such a pleasant room to enjoy I decide to delay my adventure for the day and spend some time on my blog. Head out about 11 a.m. and catch the metro, then the tram to the Petrin Funnicular. Public transport is cheap, paid just 310 Kz or the equilivant of $15 for 72 hours and includes, Metro (subway), trams, busses, even the Funnicular. The queue for the funnicular was short and I boarded in less than 15 minutes. Unlike the Dresden funnicular which only had one or two other riders this attraction was filled to capacity. Built in 1891 the cable car was originally operated by water, which ... read more

On the way to Kuta Hora I delighted in field upon field of canola, brilliant yellow and in fill bloom. I had previously thought this to be mustard. My guide was a wonderful older woman who had a lovely way about her and was always able to convey her feelings, attitudes, opinions and values throughout her commentary. She was charming and the day was glorious, bright and sunny just after an early morning rain, the sky was clear and the vista vast. Kutna Hora The town began in 1142 when established as a settlement as a Cistercian Monastary, the first in Bohemia. By 1260 German miners began to mine for silver in the mountain region, which they named Kuttenberg, and which was part of the monastery property. Under Abbot Heinrich Heidenreich the territory greatly advanced due ... read more

I really wanted to see the Czech Traditional Musicians and Dancers but really didn't want to go on a commercial tour. This amazing trip has unfolded with such uncanny spontaneous manifestation I should not have been surprised when on the way to the metro an open air market was in full swing. Lo and behold they had these authentic and energetic performers. The men throw their legs in the air, tassels on their boots flying high. There were smokers made from wood barrels and the end result was the smoked fish you see. I proceeded to the Tower Park Prague, one of the few structures disturbing the unique panorama of Prague. The tower, stretching to all of 216 m, is by far the highest in the Czech Republic and during days of clear visibility it is ... read more
