Puerto Chiapas, Mexico Wednesday, April 23rd, 2013 This might be a “ cruise ship made up area” where we dock at a pool, shop and bar area, made up for cruise passengers away from the real Mexican people. This is the fourth coffee port: Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Mexico. There might be some “authentic” jade pieces to! or silver and opal. Terry purchased his trip hat, he is happy. We swam in the warm pool beside the ship and we are relaxing for our long walk (1 ½ Km) from Huatulco to St-Cucecita tomorrow ttys... read more

Guatemala, Puerto Quetzal Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013 Terry is off to get our pre-breakfast coffee; I am slowly packing for a L-O-N-G day. We leave the ship at 9:30 for an hour and half commented drive to Antigua, an old colonial capital. We then tour the town on our own for 3 and a half hours and return to the ship by 4, in time for trivia and another win! Puerto Quetzal is a secure working major port and we can’t walk inside the port or to anywhere from it, therefore we are going on an excursion to Antigua. We are back; Terry says he will never go on a long bus ride excursion ever again. It was worth it, we will never see Antigua again. It is an old colonial town, in bad repair, like ... read more

Corinto, Nicaragua Monday, April 22, 2013 Terry loved it, best day yet for him- finally No tour for us, we just walked around this very poor town. We woke up at 6, Terry did coffee and orange juice with muffins and we arrived in Corinto at 9am. I had been to Taichi at 8 and Terry and I usually do breakfast at 8:30 then we packed to go to town: water, sunglasses and hats (96ºF). We walked 200 meters from the ship to the port gate and there it was: shop after shop and booth after booth of lovely stuff. We walked around to check it out then walked, with another couple for reinforcement, to the fish market at the end of town. We saw tethered roosters on the side of the street, goats, fish and ... read more

Puerto Caldera, Costa Rica April 21st, 2013 We arrived at 7 this morning and we are leaving at 4:30, in ½ an hour. When we leave on tours early in the morning we pre-order breakfast, it was delivered at 6; because we gained an hour last night and we went to bed early, Terry had already brought down coffee from the Lido restaurant to our room. We boarded our bus at 7:20 for a 40 minutes drive to the Tarcoles River where we saw many birds (including Macaw), many crocodiles and lovely sunshine. From this 1hour boat trip, we traveled on the bus for ½ an hour to the Carara Reserve National Park where we embarked on an aerial tramway and climbed over 1000 meters through rain and shine in a tropical forest, we saw monkeys, ... read more

Central America Caribbean » Panama April 20th 2013

April 20th, 2013 Reflections after the Panama Canal and pictures added Loved every minute of the transit We started at 8 and completed the 50 mile/ 80km in record time exiting at 2 We were told it would be treacherously hot and should drink non alcoholic liquids, cover up and try to stay cool. Well, the first 3 locks were HOT but then the rainy season started and a storm blew in, with life saving clouds, some lightening and a 5-minute light rain. We had time to “swim the Panama Canal” in the level 10 pool (we saw a croc this morning as we entered the locks), I will receive my certificate shortly. The container ships that preceded and followed us were enormous, Terry calculated about 1400 containers on some of our neighbours. Day at sea ... read more

tacky beyond belief Aruba, Dutch Antiles Wednesday, April 17, 2013 Here 8-4:30 Tai-Chi at 8 Breakfast in our room 8-8:30 Slow day as yesterday was a arduous day on shore because Curacao is so walking friendly, but my legs still hurt Terry and I came in around 7, showered in cold water to lower our body temperature* and lay around the room (me with aching legs and feet) and ordered our favorite room service dinner. * we are thankful that we have our water soaked silica necklaces to wear in this heat. I am enjoying the left over coffee while I write this We have not booked ship tours except for Costa Rica: tram ride in the canopy of the rain forest and a cruise on some river and in Guatemala a 1 ½ hr bus ... read more

South America » Venezuela » North-Eastern April 16th 2013

Curaçao, Dutch Antilles Tuesday, April 16, 2013 Arrived at 8, enjoyed the sailing, lovely, colourful and prosperous A governor had migraines, decided that the whitewash was the reason for his problems and made a law that all the buildings had to be “not white”; imagine lovely Dutch buildings in pastel colours all different, lovely. Curacao is built on 2 sides of a small harbor with a floating pontoon moveable bridge. We are docked between these old and new sides within short walking distance of the pedestrian pontoon bridge. We walked the old side for an hour this morning, came home for a drink, I had to drown ¾ of a liter of lemon tea and wash some clothes: very hot. Terry is reading Shibumi for a little break( thank you MF). We are going back out ... read more
