After almost four hours on the train we finally arrived in Kanchanaburi, the home of the Bridge Over The River Kwai, which became infamous as part of the ‘Death Railway’ given its name by allied prisoners of war, who the Japanese had made to build during world war two as they pushed on their conquest of SE Asia. So many POWs died building this railway, which started in Thailand and crossed over into Burma to the Indian border, that the prisoners themselves (mainly British and Australian) gave the name The Death Railway. There’s still a section of the railway which you can ride the train on, right up to Nam Tok from Bangkok, and this is how we had decided to get to Kanchanaburi. You can get a minibus which gets you there in half the ... read more

We left Koh Tao In the morning by ferry we landed in the port where we then got on to buses to the town of champion, now the buses where all very full and we hadn't booked a train ticket in advance so we where starting to get a bit worried , but after five months of traveling we have this down, as soon as we stop I jump off duck, dive and elbow my way around confused, tired looking people heading straight for the ticket desk (or best coach seat depending of the situation) while grant deals with the huge pile of backpacks and the 30 people trying to find there one. So I've managed to get to the front of the line only to be told that their are no 2nd class train tickets the only ... read more

We arrived in Koh Tao after getting a ferry from Koh Samui via Koh Penang, which only lasted for about 2 hours with nothing exciting happening along the way. As usual we got off at the ferry terminal and straight away were bombarded by taxi and tuk tuk drivers all shouting over each other and wanting to take us to wherever we were going. We finally opted to go for a taxi with 4 wheel drive and which looked like it could handle going off road as we had heard that the dirt track which would get us to our resort was pretty hard going…..and it definitely was that! After being piled into the back of a pickup truck we were off….climbing up some of the steepest dirt tracks I’ve ever seen and climbing over small ... read more

Our time on the Andaman Coast Island hoping was now at an end and we were soon making our way over to the mainland to then move to the Gulf Coast of Thailand to stay on the island of Koh Samui. We had thought that with Phuket being the biggest island on the Andaman Coast, it would be easy for us to get to Krabi by getting a boat straight there, but we soon found out that there were no boats that go there from Phuket and so with that we were soon on another small ferry heading back for Koh Phi Phi to then get another boat to Krabi. After a full day of moving, we eventually got to the mainland later that afternoon and were off to find our hostel (Pak Up Hostel) which ... read more

Blog - Ko phi phi After some very tranquil and relaxing days on koh lanta we headed off to koh phi phi , the word Koh in Thai basically means island so any place with a koh, were on a beach. Now koh phi phi is a pretty small island so small there are no cars and at points you can pretty much walk the width of it in about 10 mins and that's including having a brows in the stalls along the way. We arrived by boat in to the small port and headed off to our guesthouse which was located up a very very steep hill but the views of the ocean made up for it once we caught are breath. Koh phi phi might be small but it packs a lot in its ... read more

After leaving the Uk back in April, we had finally made it into Thailand.....the land of smiles where everyone smiles, it seems that the Thai people are never unhappy and whenever you see them they will give you the bigest smile! They are just the happyest people i have ever met. After our days journey from The Langkawi Islands, we eventually found our hostel......after being droped off at the wrong one (it was dark and not very well lit where we were staying on Lanta and were no signs outside the place we had just been droped off at so we didn't actually find out we were at the wrong place until an English guy told us where we were......just our luck!) But it turned out we were only a 5 minute walk away just a ... read more

With almost a month now gone while we have been in Asia, it was time yet again to move on from Penang......and we decided to head to Malaysias most northern islands on the Andaman Coast, on the border with Thailand, The Langkawi Islands. Before heading over to Langkwai, we had been told that these islands were tax free......which meant cheap bear at last!!.....i think Jade was just excited about the prospect of being able to do as much shopping as she could, we had also heard that this is the place that most people come to go on holiday aswel, so had expected there to be resorts everywhere and for the whole place to be pretty much like a tourist trap......but we decided to check them out anyway seeing how we were so close, and it ... read more

Our journey to Penang could be a whole blog in its self as it felt like it took us days just to get here, we left the perhentian islands at around 11 am by speed boat , now I read in the guide book that these boats should only carry 12 people max so after doing a quick head count we had 22 people in ours plus everyones rucksacks so I was a bit nervous also it didn't help that our driver saw a mate in another boat and they decided to race each over!!Anyway we arrived safe and sound at the dock and met up with two guys from Amsterdam and shared a taxi to kuala Besut which is a little town where we where getting our coach from. Our coach was at 10:30pm, so ... read more

Our time in Malaysia so far seems to be flying by, and we are quickly getting to the point where we will soon be crossing over the border into Thailand to start our adventures there......however we still have our dwindling list of places here we want to visit beforehand! From Melaka we moved on up to Kuala Lumpur, which was only a quick 2 hour coach journey, and so before we knew it we were trudging the streets of KL to try and find a bed for the night. Melaka seemed to have chilled the both of us out a lot and so we had decided while we were there that we wouldn't book any hostels and we would just find somewhere to stay once we arrived.....this was probably the worst decision we could have made, ... read more

Malacca or Melaka however u wish to spell it is our first stop In Malaysia so were both pretty excited to see what it has to offer, after we arrived In one piece (just about ) at our new hostel we settled in, the hostel is pretty cool very minimalist which I love and on a quite back road just off the main drag. We arrived on a Sunday and the main attraction in malacca is the weekend market so we were just in time, so that evening we headed down to the market and decided to start at the food end as we where both starving from a day of traveling. There where loads of food stalls lining the road and all the food looked amazing we just weren't sure what any of it was ... read more
