Illness Sorry you've been sick. Jim and I are staying heathy, but there's lots of "crud" in the US too. We've had a nice weekend in northern Colorado with our "kids". To celebrate Doug's birthday we all went to a dinner theater in Boulder to see "Little Shop of Horrors". Glad that you have a sweet "niece" to take care of you. Stay well. Cousin Camilla

Your best e-mail yet... Hi Kent, This was your best written e-mail yet. You may not get a job in the US as an English teacher, but you may be able to get one as a comical journalist. I did not know that Sanfordese was the name of the SW Kansas dialect. My speech instructor at Fort Hays, Miss Ketchum, ( no pun intended of her last name) was death on those students. However, she referred to those certain words as Kansas-isms...warsh for wash, whirr for where, jist for just. I think it was her life's work to break those students of their Kansas-isms or else flunk them. Pity the poor Ellis County Volga-German kids...they had a low German accent on top of their Kansas-isms! It was a great class. Cousin Carole
Cantho Cantho
University Learning Resource Center. I made a mistake in the title. It is known as I have just stated. I thought I made it clear that the "mean Librarian" was old thinking. I and every visitor, student or anyone is greated warmly. Lastly, I called Simmons College, Simmons University. Through Ms. Trang, I was inpressed by the only Simmons graduate I know-her. If you are ever in Cantho I encourage you to visit this Center and the whole University. You will be impressed. I apologize to my readers for my mistakes. Blog writer, Kent Converse
Wersh I'm behind on reading some of your blogs and just found the one about Sandfordese. Jim and I grew up saying wersh instead of wash. Since we both knew it was wrong, we made a definite goal to correct ourselves before we had children. We all say wash now, but it brought back some funny memories.
Hien Guest House The Hien Guest house must have been quite an adventure. I couldn't have gone past the entrance and down the hall. But they look like nice friendly people, and we're glad you enjoyed the yogurt.
Kent, it sure looks fascinating there. Many of your comments and snapshots have captured my thoughts - that "peaceful place", on the Mekong, Christmas Santa (looks like he is too slim now to be Santa), Sanfordese, liked seeing the Unification Library again, Cantho Rotary Exchange student, and now these great pictures on the street near the Hen's Guesthouse in Cantho. Too bad you are missing the outstanding YEES student - wish you could meet her!
Take care, we're thinking about you and all the good things happening on your "I care" journey.
Miss Hoa, Future Rotary Exchange Student Kent: We could, as Rotarians, learn so much from Miss Hoa. I hope we can get her into the program. Someone that has such a desire, should succeed.
King of the Universe Great blog. I looked at the pictures and felt homesick. Our trips to Vietnam are starting to feel like I have another family. All the work you and the rest of do is addictive in a positive way. Looking forward to hearing more about your adventures in Vietnam.
Travels Glad to hear that you are getting to visit so many interesting places while in Vietnam. You do a great job writing a travel blog.

library truth Too bad there's wrong rumors about the library. Really good that you were able to find out the truth, and have such a wonderful experience. Cousin Camilla
misconceptions It is amazing how many misconceptions you are clearing up. I guess you just have to be there. I am delighted you were able to see Bokar Station, not to mention the rural countryside, and wonder if you can adjust to downtown Hanoi...heh heh heh...Anita
Kinsley and Miss Hoa Hi Kent - Fun to read about your plans for Miss Hoa in Kinsley. I'll share the news with my cousin Jane Britton Schmidt. Her husband just had a knee replacement this week. She's had some correspondence with Steve Converse. Bad storms in Oklahoma knocked out his electricity for several days, so he didn't send Christmas cards. He also has a new girlfriend! now that he's divorced from Mary Betty. Good luck on getting Miss Hoa over to the United States. I know you'll be a big help with her English. Cousin Camilla
This is my 12 visit to Vietnam
My current mission in Vietnam is going to the home villages of all my neices and nephews that have helped me in Vietnam
In 2005 I biked from Hanoi to Saigon. Probably the greatest trip I ever experienced.
I look forward to returning to Vietnam and enjoying the people and land of Vietnam.
I will be staying with my former Rotary Exchange Student Trang and her husband Huan and daughter Sarah.
I keep a bike at Trang's house and will be biking around Saigon on short trips.
The cover photo is me biking the Red River Islands near Hanoi.... full info
