Los Millares is located just outside the small village of Gador, Andalusia, you really need to find it on google first before you head out as there is no signage until you are almost there then a small red sign appears simply saying Los Millares. Unfortunately this is the norm for Spain, very little to tell you about a place that should be well advertized as Los Millares is considered one of the most important Copper Age sites in all of Europe. The site consits of an urban area with collective burial sites dating back to 3200-2200 B.C. It is a self guilding tour with no admission fee however there is a small information centre at the road where you can obtain a small brochure. It is a good 20 min walk to the first burial ... read more

Europe » Estonia » Tallinn July 15th 2017

So with a quick stop over in Laitse Castle we are in Tallinn, Estonia. You know this all came about because I saw a show on TV about must see Old Towns and knew I must see it. Tallinn was under the old soviet rule until 1991, so I was sure what to expect would it be dull and grey and unattended to, would it be run down and still needing love, well I was delighted to be proven wrong. It was to put into a word intoxicating! As we entered the city we notice how green and park like it was, the main streets lined with large fairy tale like trees, I fell in love with it before even getting to the old town. We found a small hotel attached to the walls of old ... read more

Europe » Latvia » Riga Region » Riga July 13th 2017

After our 4 day relaxation and ready to hit the road again so off we go to Latvia our first stop is Riga. I had never hear of it before we decided to see the Baltic Countries. So let me tell you our experience of Riga and what we thought of it. We were told that Riga was dirty with lots of graffiti, but what we found was something totally different and unexpected. What we found was a beautiful friendly old mixed with new city, with narrow streets and antique buildings. I love the pedestrian-only old town makes it easy to walk around without the concern of buses, cars and trucks and poop in and out of the many shops and stop for a beer at one of it's many little street pubs. We chose to ... read more

Ok so we have been travelling for 10 days and I thought it was time for a break, you know chill out and no driving, do some laundry. So I found a little on bookings, sounded perfect, 2 bedroom apt with access to pool, washing machine, kitchen , yard and easy walk to stores. Ok So we arrive very nice clean place but you only get 1 bedroom of the apt, you may or may not have to share the toilet and shower room also the kitchen and lounge area, we were lucky we did NOT have to share but, not really what we had expected or wanted but we have learned over time that you make the best of what you have. So where do you look for a place to stay in a city, the city of Prague offer many, many different accomodations, but if you are looking for something a little different at a reasonal price, let me tell you about where we chose to stay. Can you imagin that only 2 mins from the city tram and just outside the city limits you can find yourself staying at a 1000 year old monastery. Well this was quite a find, beautiful old buildings surrounded by extensive gardens and a small lake to stoll around. There is an excellent restaurant on the grounds right beside the hotel, with outside area for a cold beer or a full meal for very reasonable price, I believe our full meal was about 24 euro with drinks. The Adalbert Hotel is ... read more

Prague is a city that we were very comfortable in and could easliy spend 3 or 4 days just wandering about. Did the hop on hop off bus of course best way to see any city and the tour guides are the best to tell you all kinds of little stories about their city, which they are very proud of. The boast about the best beer in ALL of Europe, they say it is far more superior than German beer( not sure if the Germans would agree). We did all of the touristy things you do when you only have a day or two( should have allowed more time). We stood in front of town hall with all the other hundreds of tourist waiting for the Prague Astronomical clock to put on it's display. We wondered ... read more

Europe » Spain » Andalusia » Garrucha April 6th 2017

Most of our winter friends have left Mojacar now for their summer life, which is too bad because we discovered the 2nd annual Ruta De La Tapa in Garrucha!! What a treat, 49 different Tapa bars and restaurants have joined in to provide a variety of tasty treats. We recieved a map with a list of participating restaurants and what they were featuring so we could pick and choose the ones we wanted to try, comes with a drink including a beer, wine or soft drink( we ordered water) all for 3 euro. Once the 10 boxes have been stamped by the tapa bars , you can vote for your favorite tapas and enter for a cruise trip for 2. Europe » Spain » Castile-La Mancha » Belmonte April 4th 2017

Hadn't been away for awhile so I decided to have a Secret Escape for my hubby's birthday, we wanted to find some place fun to go here in Spain no too far from home. So within a little less than 4 hours drive I found a beautiful little Spainish village of Belmonte found on the "Quijote's Road" ( Rute del Quijote) also know for it's impressive 15th century Castillo De Belmonte. Belmonte is surrounded by 15th Century walls with 3 of the orginal access gateways still in amazing condition, and inside the city walls we wondered around and found some beautifully interesting buildings. Sadly some where in bad condition and it is a shame that they have not been given the facelife they deserved, there was however a lovely old Gothic church of San Bartolome. We ... read more

This is our second visit to Galera, staying in a Cave House, why I didn't write about it before........... not sure. So I'll write about it this time to to share our experience with you. This time brought along our friends from Canada to see their recactions to this experience, something you won't get on a typical holiday. Galera is about 165 km from Mojacar, so a scenic 1hr and 45 min drive. The town it's self is over 4000 years old, with beautiful mountain views all around you a real get away from it all place to visit. We rented 2 Cave houses side by side from a lovely couple that have lived in Galera for about 4 yrs and love it, I personally would miss the sea views I have at home. If you ... read more
