22 November 2010 Our last morning in Langkawi started early as we got up to start work on a little project of ours that we are not at liberty to share with you all as yet….( I could tell you but I’d have to kill you). All I can say is that I didn’t really want to be up as early as we were but c’est la vie! Having completed our mission for the minute we headed onwards to breakfast, and a list of tasks that we had written for us to achieve prior to leaving for our next destination. Breakfast therefore was also an opportunity to take the laptop with us and have a working brekkie… (how London are we?) We strolled along the road to a place we had visited yesterday for a ... read more

20 November 2010 Having hired the car for 24 hours, we awoke, with a morning available to us to go anywhere & do anything that we wanted and decided to indulge ine on of our pastimes from home - simply driving. It wasn’t quite the Autumn in the lanes of Devon & Cornwall that we are used to, but it was wonderful to be able to go wherever we wanted. We headed for the north-west tip of the island as the map showed that it has some beaches and we thought that it might be nice to experience a different stretch of sand for a while. The drive through rainforest was beautiful and the glimpses of the ocean that we caught through the trees along the way also looked stunning, however we were disappointed to ... read more

Well that is the by-line as you arrive, and what they want you to believe. The legends are apparently many, including feuding giants that threw stuff about that turned into the landscape, and they then got punished by being turned into the two largest mountains on the island, and a maiden who was innocently executed and in turn cursed the island - by doing so and to prove her innocence her blood flowed white which seeped into the land staining the sand white here. 18th November 2010 Never more so than today has the day has the moniker “ the day after the night before” been appropriate on this holiday. So much so that I have zero pictures and not much to say. I did see the beach today and it was stunning - white sand ... read more

Oops…just realised that we had forgotten to do this so quickly rectifying. The Blue View Having seen only a fraction of the country in real term, and the bits we have seen being so varied, it is hard to sum up in one place, so I am splitting it up into it’s component parts: Bangkok : huge! Busy, but surprisingly clean, apart from the filthy air pollution. There is some great food on offer if you delve into the street food arena, and I liked Koh Sahn Road, it has an energy all of it’s own. It is however a very “Western” city, which is both a good and bad thing - coming straight here you would probably think it very eastern, but coming from Vietnamm and Cambodia it felt very Western, with big name brands ... read more

16 November 2010 An unexpected day in Koh Lanta -we had wanted to go to Langkawi today but unfortunately there were no ferries running because it was the first day of a Muslim festival and we therefore, effectively , had a day to kill. We will have an early start tomorrow so no alarm was set today. I have also become even slower (if that was possible) at getting going in the morning with the result that, even though we awoke around 8am, it was gone 9am by the time we emerged from our bungalow. It was quieter than usual and it wasn’t until we had taken our seats at a table ready to order breakfast that we realised that there was only one member of staff in the whole complex. The reason for this ... read more

14th November 2010 As I peeked out from behind the curtains, the darkened glass contained within our windows couldn’t disguise the strength of the sun. It was a bright day, there was no disguising it, and yet we still struggled to get out of bed to seize the day. After checking about if we had breakfast included in our room price (I had stupidly forgotten to ask for this on arrival) I discovered that it wasn’t and as such when we did venture outside it was not in the direction of the beach but rather in the opposite direction to the nearby restaurant we had visited the night before that was only a couple of minutes walk from our place. We were both hungry and so instead of sharing one of their ample portions of ... read more

12 November 2010 7:30 am and no rain. I looked out of our bedroom window towards the sea. Where, yesterday, there had hung heavy grey clouds today there hints of blue. However, yesterday started this way and the last weather forecast we saw predicted more of the same for today. This made deciding what to do today difficult. There are two things in particular that we wanted to do, firstly walk to the island view point and secondly take a boat trip snorkelling which includes a stop at Maya Bay - “The Beach”. It may not entirely surprise you to discover that the day passed without either of these outings having formed a part of it. We met Scott & Sara for breakfast during which time the sun came out to play and the temperature began ... read more

As I am writing this, we are sat in a bar drinking Magners, on Koh Phi Phi Don. A slightly surreal experience but more about that later….. 10th November 2010 Today started after our first night of 2 in our little wooden hut. We are paying for the privilege of having an outdoor shower of only cold water, no aircon only a fan and feeling damp. It looks like it would be great but the reality is far from the idyllic imagined romantic retreat. I for one was not impressed and wanted to find some new accomodation - at the very least to see if we could find better on the island without breaking the bank. Having hit the hay so early last night, it shouldn’t have been as tough to get out of bed as ... read more

8 November 2010 Day two in Phuket and I think that, today, we have come to more of an understanding with it. That is not to say that we are suddenly in love with the place but Kata Beach is, if you over look the Newquayness of it, a relaxing place to while away half a day on a sun lounger paying £2 each for the privilege. Oh and did I mention that Phuket has surf? So today looked like it was gearing up to involve me reading (I have developed an ability to read at an alarming pace as if my life depends on it - or perhaps it had just been laying dormant) and Gregg hiring a board and making the most of the first surf to be sighted in the last 2 ... read more

6th November 2010 We awoke today knowing two things for sure - we didn’t have a yoga class, and we were flying out of Chiang Mai. Both of these things saddend us as we had liked Chiang Mai and really enjoyed our Yoga. We had our breakfast and returned to pack up our bags, managing it much faster than the last time we had had to do it in Bangkok - Lou even commented on the difference a hangover makes to the speed of packing. Once this chore had been achieved we moved our bags to the locked storage room in the hotel and headed out to explore what Chaing Mai had to offer in Wats (temples) We had a map with the various important Wats on them that the hotel had provided so set ... read more
