Day 32 6/06/2019 Edmonton – LA - Melbourne The alarm went off at 4.45 so that we could get to the airport for our 8.30 flight to LA. After a few tears and the final listen to Shotgun by George Ezra we said our good byes. They are always difficult. We have some amazing memories from the past 4 and a bit weeks. We left on time flying in Premium economy. Arrived in LA and then found a quiet spot in a corner on a 2 seater couch which became our hide out for the following 10 hours. We are now waiting to board the long flight home. We had a smooth flight home with a great crew on board the Qantas flight. Arrived early and then a long wait for our cases. As they say ... read more

Day 31 5/06/2019 Edmonton Up early to pack up the camp, but Ron and I took advantage of the canoes and went out on the lake to have a look at the mountains. The lake was like a mill pond and we could hear the calls of the Loons a duck type of bird. Once Penni arrived we finished packing up and then headed off for breakfast and then headed home. WE arrived home around 4 which gave us time to pack our cases before we went to Rob and Penni’s for the final get together. Ron and Rob cooked up a barbeque which was delicious. Keeping the Ron’s birthday theme going we had a Black Forest cake for desert. This must be the longest birthday celebrations in history! Off to bed early as we have ... read more

Day 30 4/06/2019 Lake Louise – Banff After a sleepless night due to the noise from our neighbours we were ready for Penni when she picked us up at 9 and back to the Bagel shop and a Starbucks coffee then onto Lake Louise. Karly and Scott mentioned the noisy neighbours to the parks ranger and he advised that the people camping on the other side of the noisy guys also put in a complaint. We had a walk around the lake. It was the most beautiful icy green colour when the sunlight hit it. We took some photos and then went for a walk through the Fairmont Hotel. We bought some souvenirs and then it was off to the Lake Louise Ski Fields. Ron, Scott and I went on a chair lift while Penni and ... read more

Day 29 3/06/2019 Ink Pots Walk We woke up after a good night’s sleep and waited for Penni to pick us up. Breakfast was at the Bagel shop and then off to the Ink Pots at Johnstone Canyon. It is a 12 km return walk along a fast flowing river on board walks to waterfalls and then up and over a mountain to the Ink Pots. The first stop was the lower falls where the melted snow water was crashing down around us and we then crossed the river to find a small cave that had been carved away from endless years of rushing water and it led through to a closer viewing area of the falls where we were covered with the spray from the falls. We continued on to the Upper falls which had ... read more

Day 28 2/06/2019 Banff – 2 Jack Lake We started the morning with freshly made cappuccinos from our resident barista Ron and hot croissants. We loaded up Scott’s truck and we headed off for Banff. We drove via Calgary and then stopped in Canmore to buy some supplies. We dropped into the Bagel Store for freshly made Bagels of choice with toppings/fillings of choice. We travelled on to the campsite and it was perfect. We had a view of the lake through the trees and the shore was only 20 metres from where we were going to pitch the tent. We unloaded the truck and Scott and Ron went to collect the fire wood. On their way back they noticed an Elk just down the track from the campsite. It was young male as its antlers ... read more

Day 27 1/06/2019 Edmonton We decided to get up early as we were going to the Duchess Bake house for brunch. We ate croissants of all types and coffee and they were yummy, so much so we bought some for tomorrow morning’s breakfast before we head off to Banff. Karly and I dropped Ron and Scott off as they were going to the shooting range to play with the guns while Penni Karly and I were going to buy the food for the Charcuterie board which is an antipasto board. We dropped Penni back at home and then Karly and I went shopping and looking for Pandora beads that represent our holiday. We met the men back at home and Penni Karly and I laid out the board and then we all sat around and enjoyed ... read more

Day 26 31/05/2019 Cancun – Edmonton One last final breakfast overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and a brief walk around the grounds and then it was time to check out and head to the airport. The Cancun airport is so modern and clean it leaves Melbourne well behind. As usual my case was overweight and Ron’s under, so again we moved a couple of items out of it and into our hand luggage. We had a coffee while we waited for the plane to board. Unfortunately we were not able to get seats together, lucky us Ron was seated next to a mum and a 2 year old, and I sat next to her husband with a 4 year old. All I can say is thank heavens for earphones and loud music. We had a quick stop ... read more

Day 25 30/05/2019 Poolside We had the usual breakfast routine this morning with added heavy rain. Off to the pool under the cabanas for the last day of leisure, sun and drinks. We lazed the day away by the pool. A family positioned themselves beside us today and they had brought fruit down to the pool in their bags. There are always a number of animals roaming around the resort looking for food and the racoon type of animal came sniffing around. The teenage children were fascinated by them and the animal started to scrounge around in their bag looking for food so the father grabbed out a banana and broke some of it off and gave it to it. Then the teenage daughter tried to feed it by hand until it snatched the remaining banana ... read more

Day 24 29/05/2019 Pool Day We started the day with the usual morning coffee, croissants and our leisurely walk to the beach buffet. Karly had reserved us the lounges under the cabanas as we thought that it may be quieter and shadier. The pool was home for the day. Today was a day of relaxation after the very busy day yesterday. Sun, sleep, a good book, drinks, and water sport (playing ball) made the perfect day. Even the down pour of rain didn’t dampen our spirits. Let’s face it we didn’t get wetter by being rained upon when we were in the pool. Pina Coladas and mudslides were the drinks of choice today. For dinner tonight we decided that we would start at the pizza and taco eat outs to have entre there and then moved ... read more

Day 23 28/05/2019 Xcaret We met Karly and Scott at the coffee shop as usual to start our day with coffee and croissants. We had our usual beach buffet for breakfast this morning as we discussed our plans for today. We decided that we would spend the morning exploring the park by foot and then the afternoon would consist of water activities. We waited at the designated place at the hotel waterway for the boat to come and take us to the park. We boarded the boat and the man used a long pole to push us down the waterway to the park. We could have walked quicker as it was only a 5 minute walk to the entrance. We followed the path to the aviary. We entered a large netted area where we saw all sorts ... read more
