Rain
Gary You didn't say whether it rained on you as you slept on the ferry! Photo enigmatically entitled "Evening Light" - cool. Dreamy even - well Ansel Adams. Love the blog - keep it up and ride safely. Bruce

glad to see your suspension sag is in good order!
Murph, you are a complete bike nerd! I love the updates - you should become a travel writer. and that picture of the evening light on the street sign is awesome. K and I visited Carcassonne about 6 years ago when I did 2,200km driving around France with a 6 month pregnant woman (with Adam) and I remember the medieval feel to it - it was market day - but much prettier towns and villages elsewhere. That cassoulet is amazing though, the beans and the lamb and so on - v nice. Keep em coming and hope to get a round in when yuo are back. Bruce and I took the WAGs to the cricket yesterday - they were bored stupid! Speak soon, Andy

French Style
You knew that it would not be long before you got abuse! You state that "the French usually exude more style than that" - is this the same French that invented bidets, allow neon signs on the roads leading into even the smallest village, gave us Gérard Depardieu and drive around in Citroens?! In their favour, they are more tolerant than us - if you had been watching a group of kids playing football here then you would probably be in the gaol by now. Great roads in Andorra - they are good fun. Safe journey.

You plonker!
Hi Murph, I can't believe all this happened on your first day - anyway things can only get better!! I am glad you are on your way. Be safe and have a fantastic trip. LOL A xx

Hi Amanda, The northern lights would be cool I agree. You have to be here in winter for that though. Its cold enough in "summer". So I think I would be doing that off the bike. Nice to hear from you, hope all is well with you and yours. Gary x

Its not a f*cking race Pete. I am not after Nick Sanders record - its supposed to be a holiday...

Yes the sight lets you rotate them, but it then stretches them as if they were landscape and not portrait which is actually worse.
16th September 2008

Now I just fill it up at the pump. Anyway it is a good emergency ration of fuel given the useless on board computer which always registers full. That's useful...
16th September 2008

Actually more than one! But I had to pick on someone and if you cast your net wide etc. Yes some of them were lovely and some err weren't....
16th September 2008

Jacques Cousteau would have complained it was too wet to photograph then - it was easy. You will be sad to here I have dispatched the headcam back to the UK...
16th September 2008

Yes poor effort I agree. I have stuck two up tonight - one for the final leg of the Strasbourg journey and another covering my time around here. We should come here for a long weekend en masse - mega area. Yes sorry about the Transit comment - actually quite a lot of my mates have them, so perhaps I'd better think through publishing my bigoted views in future!
16th September 2008

Yeah I guess. I was actually pretty philosophical about it. I guess I am chilling out. I reckon I'll drop it again, but of my own volition. Hopefully no offs at speed.
16th September 2008

It was only a matter of time!!
Pranged it at the lights eh.........what did I tell ya!!! How many more do you think there will be???

Updates
Gary, four days no updates! Stop sulking over the hair straighters you won in last nights bar raffle and get some content on this blog, by the way great attack on Transit drivers, and I’m with you on the Aria issue, you know my views on adventure tourers screens they should be renamed TORTURE tourers. Get that eeepc out and give me some reading material while I sip at my Horlicks!. Keep it save matey, Eddie (Transit owner).

Breakaway from the motorway
Couldn't agree with you more, I wish I could join you but the ZX10 wont start and has a flashing FI light. Blooming computers.... I can't believe you're 2 weeks into it already.

What a doughnut!
You gotta be grateful that you didn't get BMW assist out for an empty fuel tank. Had a similar experience in an old Vauxhall Cavalier the night after refuelling completely. Bleedin Luton chav's had cut my fuel line though.

Great photos - amazing scenery.

Focus
What; no photos? What about some helmet cam of a bridge and the back end of bus? Surely German bridges and buses are different in some way from Norwegian bridges and buses. Enjoy Strasbourg. Regards to Wend. Bruce

Aarhus
So the schedule is a little like the tee-off times when you play golf?! Weren't you due in Aarhus yesterday? You are sounding a little ticked off - get some Schnapps inside you, that will cheer you up and is a much cheaper way to get p@~ss*d than beer.

Bodge's Exes
Actually Gary, I seem to recall that you fancied one of Bodge's exes rather a lot. Ride safely me old mate. Bruce

Siphon Pump
Gary - read your theory re siphoning fuel and the stove thing sounds like a good idea and would have probably worked if you had bought a siphon pump (just a few quid). Basically its a tube with a rubber hand pump in the middle and a one directional valve. They look like they would roll up pretty small. Maybe you can still buy one?
9th September 2008

ROTATE!
For the love of god, you're an IT geek - ROTATE THE PHOTOS ALREADY!!!! I'm going to send you the chiropractor's bill for my neck if you don't...
8th September 2008

Day 8 - Jotunheim
880 miles in 8 days - have you broken the bike and are now pushing it? Hope that you'll be back in Blighty for the christening and to see the (other) height-challenged one. Seriously, I reckon that you are brave undertaking such a journey on your tod and at your advanced stage in life. Hope that it all goes well. Carmela sends her love, Mum thinks that you are bonkers - I did enlighten her that you have always been thus.
8th September 2008

You git, now I want to go driving round the fjords... (I'm waiting for Acrobat to do something which is why I've got time to read this, if you're reading, Paul).

Northern Lights
Hi Gary. Not sure if you've given up on the journal but in case you're still logging in there was an amazing programme on TV last night about Joanna Lumley going to the Northern Lights. Quite stunning and hope you get the chance to seek them out. Have fun. Amanda x
