Hi Again Everybody; Here is part two of our safari, Zimbabwe. We crossed over from Botswana after our Chobe Park adventures. After arriving and setting up camp we had a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River above Victoria Falls. It's a massive river with Zimbabwe on one side and Zambia on the other. It was great, so relaxing. It was our driver/guide, David's birthday, so it kind of turned into a party. A group of native dancers came to the camp ground after the cruise and put on a really great show with dancing, singing & drumming. It was a great start for Zimbabwe. Next day we went to Victoria Falls. So spectacular, they are over a mile long. The amount of water flowing over them is crazy. The locals have always referred to the as ... read more

Hi Everybody! We just returned from safari. It was fantastic! There were 2 other people and our guide. We could'nt have asked for better, we all got along so well. Angela from England and Danny from Australia. We had to camp en-route to Botswana which gave us a chance to get to know each other. Our first adventure was the Okavango Delta. We met up with local native guides who took us into the Delta by Mokoro, a dug out canoe carved in one solid piece out of a tree trunk. The guide is also the poler. He stands in the back of the Mokoro and uses a long pole to guide the canoe through the water and reeds. It was a little scary at first because the canoe sits very low in the water and ... read more

Hello Everyone; Here are our last stops for South Africa. Kruger National Park, here we spent 4 nights all at different camps throughout the park. The park is almost 500 miles long and over 300 miles wide so you have to do alot of driving to see animals, but it was so neat. The first night we tent camped at the main camp, we went on a night safari drive with a guide and I got to see some animals I've been wanting to see and hadn't yet. Besides lots of other big game we saw African Eagle Owls, Bushbabies, and Hyena. We actually came upon 2 Hyena in the road tearing an Impala apart. They are so evil looking and you could actually hear their jaws breaking the Impalas bones. We stopped to watch and ... read more

Hello Everybody; We've seen alot since my last entry. I don't think I mentioned in my last entry, but the last place we were at, Coffey Bay, we met a South African guy there. Mike Schausser. He was totally blown away when he started talking to us because he lived in Durango for a year and a half and went to Ft. Lewis College. Then he punted for the University of Colorado Rams for 2 years. He'd been to Farmington many times and he and Aaron even knew some of the same people. Wild, it is a small world. Our next stop was Port St. Johns, staying at the Jungle Monkey Back packers. It was great. The scenery totally changed on our way there from tribal village living on a dry savannah to tribal living in ... read more

Hello Everyone; We have been seeing some of the most beautiful country ever! After leaving Buffalo Bay we went to Nature's Valley and stayed at "The Wild Spirit" backpackers. It was great. We went to Monkey Land, a sanctuary for monkeys from all over the world that have never lived in the wild, but are getting as close to it as they ever will. Some were peoples exotic pets, some came from movie studios, over-crowded zoos and believe it or not, quite a few were organ grinders monkeys taught to be pick pockets, they were confiscated from gypsies all around Europe and Russia. It was really cool. Right next door to it was the largets free-flight bird sanctuary in the world. Same thing, exotic pets and movie birds that needed a home. It was so beautiful. ... read more

Hi Everybody; We've made alot of stops since our last entry. We don't have any pics posted this time because backpackers won't let you download into their computers. We'll have to do it at an internet cafe next time we're in a bigger place. After leaving Swellendam we went to Oudtshoorn. Beautiful drive. At times I'd swear we were driving through New Mexico. This spot is labeled "The Karoo". There are big ranches here, but not for cattle, they're for Ostrich. Ostrich are here naturally but started being farmed back in the 1800's when European and American high society women felt they had to have Ostrich feathers to be fashionable. It's quite a big business here. We took a tour of an Ostrich farm, got to feed them, see how their eggs are incubated, how their ... read more

Hello All! We done quite a bit since leaving Cape Town. Our first stop was just outside of Stellenbosch, wine country. We stayed 3 nights in a really nice cabin built over a lake. The bird life there was amazing and the lake was filled with large mouth bass. The country side there is beautiful rolling hills of vineyards and the wine estates are done in the most beautiful Cape Dutch architecture. Some of the wineries have been there producing wine since the late 1600's. We did a great hike while there and I had one of the most amazing meals I've ever had at a restaurant called 96 Winery Road. It was Duck and Cherry Pie. I've got to learn how to make it, heavenly! From there we drove on down the scenic coastal highway, ... read more

Hi Everybody! Here are some pics from Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens here in Cape Town. It didn't rain yesterday so we hopped on a bus and went to the Gardens. They are rated one of the top 7 botanical gardens in the world. It was so beautiful. Aaron was always telling me about a flower here called the Protea, now I know why. All sizes, colors, diffent types, they're amazing. Needless to say the birdlife there was cool, too. I can't imagine what it would look like in the summer, because it's winter here and everything is green and there are flowers blooming. Then we hopped back on the bus and rode it out to Hout Bay and had lunch at a great seafood place, of course the fish was caught that morning. It is so beautiful ... read more
