The Hygenic Store The Hygenic Store at one time was the company store for the Hygenic Dairy, located in nearby in Kahaluu. When the Dairy went out of business, the store remained and is a fixture on the windward side. You can separate the real windwind folks from all the rest by mentioning "The Hygenic Store" as a landmark.

.Nymphenburg. I'm agreeing with you on this, after doing a Google search. The trip was made a few years back so my memory of the exact names are blurry. However, the one I tagged as If It ain't Baroque, is Linderhof, am I right? Thank-you for the correction.
Yes, I've been to China too and being from a small island with only recent history, the size of things, the huge population and rich history was mind boggling for me. I'm surprise you've been to many places in Beijing I didn't know existed such as the Minority Museum and Old Summer Palace. Would've like to have seen those. I'd like to go to Yunnan Province and Xinjiang Province also. Tibet is nice, but the high altitude may be a bit rough. You should definetely visit Hawaii also. Culture here is so diverse. Also been you your country and loved it.
Preserving native habits Hi Franco, Very nice travelblog about these native and original dances. It's great that by these festivals these dances and habits of very old times will be preserved for the future. See you next time

Thanks for your comment. Hi Franco, Nice to hear from you that you like our travelblog and the pictures we made. China is a great country with lovely people, history, culture, great food and nature. But you have been in China too, so you know this. We like your stories about your home state as well. We have been many times ton the mainland USA, but we visit never Hawai.
It's nice to learn a little bit more about Hawai from an insider like you.
Your other stories and pictures are good too, so we enyoj your travelblog. I hope you stay tuned for our comming up travelblogs.
Next year we are planning a trip to Tibet - if this is payable. We will see.
Hope we will hear again from you. Nice regards from Monkey and Bear

Hawaiian Names. Oops, I goof. Said "Ikaika" meant brave. Actually, it means Strong, Energetic or Determined.
More on Names: Likelike Hwy. (pronounced Li-ke Li-ke)is a Hwy. running from Honoulu to Kaneohe via Wilson Tunnel, and named after a Princess. "Liholiho" St. and School name for Hawaiian Kings, who also took names of Kamehameha II and IV. "Kaahumanu" St. and School was one of Kamehameha I's wives and very influential. Accepted and encouraged Christianity. "Kawananakoa" St. and School named after a Prince.
More on Male and Female Names:
Male-Alika=Alex, Palenapa=Barnabas, Koki=George, Pekelo=Peter, Lopaka=Robert, Pilipo=Philip, Kamekona=Samson, Kamuela=Samuel and Wiliama=William.
Female-Kiana=Diana, Iwa=Eva, Meleana=Maryann, Momi=Pearl, Loke=Rose, Waiola=Viola, Wilikinia=Virginia, Lehua=name of a native flower.
The White Bldg. whose name or function I don't know is located on Merchant St. near the corner of Nuuanu Ave. next to the entrance of the Municipal Parking Lot and across the Kumu Kahua Theatre. The King Kalakaua Statue is located at the corner of Kalakaua Ave. and Kuhio Ave. across Keo's Thai Restraunt. King Kalakaua ran against Queen Emma who was more pro-Bristish while King Kalakaua leaned more towards the Americans. The legislature elected him King and his wife Kapiolani became Queen. There was almost a riot following so their was no big coronation. Nine years later inspired by his travels by pomp and grandeur of Monarchies around the world, held a elaborate coronation with hulas, fireworks, etc. for which in was in some circles critisizied for because of the heavy spending. He gained the name, The Merry Monarch. After his death in 1891, his sister, Lydia who changed her name to Queen Liliuokalani suceeded the throne, and who was overthrown in 1893 by a band of American Businessmen.
Mariposa Restraraunt. The photo I titled as Matsonia should be corrected to Mariposa (Sp. for Butterfly). I was trying to think of the name, and know it was a name of a large ship that stopped in Hawaii in the old days. One was called Lurline, and others were Matsonia and Mariposa.
Pictures are interesting. I'd like to see a better description so one knows where to go to see those places in person. For instance, where is the White Building located or the statue of King Kalakaua. What's the story on him being "elected" king?
Photos. Yes, these photos are from a digital camera. I need first learn how to resize my photos using the resizer, because I've been having problems uploading photos. Hope to add more soon.
Are you going to add any new pictures -- or is that it? Now the left click button works. Probably my own computer's lack of responsiveness. Finally got it to restore and now things working well again.
These pictures are obviously not done with a digital camera; don't you have a digital camera?
I live in Hawaii and have travelled some, especially to Asia, Europe, Mexico, Canada and the U.S. Mainland and would like to share my photos with others. I enjoy looking at other photos, especially in places off the beaten path.... full info
