Baxter's grave I was there today and couldn't find anyone to direct me to Baxter's grave. I left there forlorn and disappointed, so I am doubly pleased to see your pictures. James K knew my Father-in-law very well and he introduced me to him. I will never forget that moment in my life when he put his arm across my shoulder and quietly said, "I am very pleased to meet you Jeannette"
The grave of James K Baxter Hi Jeannette, I'm sorry you couldn't find the grave - I remember it wasn't easy even with directions from someone. Given your difficulty, I suspect it means the grave remains in its somewhat overlooked state, which is a real pity given Baxter's significance as a poet and a New Zealander.

Have just travelled the Whanganui River Rd (Feb 2012)- had always wanted to visit Jerusalem - to pay homage to James K Baxter, see this place where he had lived and died.
Disappointed and quite shocked that there is no acknowledgement of him there, that his resting place should be so overlooked. Perhaps he or his family had wished it to be so but if not, then I think its very sad indeed.
I wasn't lucky enough to find someone to direct me to the house & gravesite, so very grateful that you have posted the photos - consolation that at least I now know what was there.
New Zild Tattoo Hi there, Sam got it done at the Dermagraphic Studio in Ponsonby, Auckland in early 2010. It cost him in the region of $400 - $450, but prices might have gone up since then. cheers
I soooo apologise mate. Bro, it's a sad thing when you can't go to a humble little town and receive some hospitality let alone a decent cup of coffee. My mother has land there and my wife and I are going to return there, children in tow and I can most certainly assure you that the next time you are there, I'll make you the best coffee you've ever had.
This was a blast from the past for us! Hi Mike and Sam
Sorry to hear that your little Fraser had to go to the Car Hospital, but it looks like you had a great day on the Taupo A1 circuit in the borrowed car. Seeing the Frasers brought back great memories of our little Caterham 7 which we had in Guernsey quite a few years ago, she was a little beauty with a British Racing Green exterior and a red leather interior, so we named her ''Stuffed Olive'' and boy did we have some fun in her.
We hope your Fraser makes a full recovery soon and you make it round the Taupo track in her next year!
Best wishes
Lynne and Kev
Molesworth Road We have just returned from a 2 day tour through Molesworth - I admire you cycling the road - but can imagine the enjoyment you had in doing so. We travelled from Hanmer to Blenheim and then the next day from Blenheim over to St Arnuds and down the Rainbow Station Road eventually arriving at Lake Tennyson and onto Hanmer. That is an AMAZING trip and the Lake is beautiful - like all South Island lakes are. Would recommend this trip to everyone.
Downhill Buzz Yes, a biike sled. Another perfect use for the footstool. I'm sad to have to report the stool is of little use for anything right now, stored under the house for the next adventure. Hope you're touring is going well Maria, I will check your blog for an update. regards, Mike
sled Hey what about snow? Imagine, you are camping on a mountain. You wake up next morning - 30 cm of snow. The solution would be easy: just take your footstool upside down, take a place, grab your bike and sledge down! Might be fun ...
The Beast - laid to rest, for now! Feral - you are an inspiration to all ! Great work on your epic NZ journey. Love the blog and pics. You have kept us entertained for a few months now. Look forward to future Brockie missions. See you soon. Buddha Baker
Awesome Blog Jack! Hi there Jack and Feral, fantastic words and pictures from the deep south, Have you heard Te Anau has recently been cut off from civilisation by flood waters. It was great to catch up with you jack, Oliver and isabelle had a great time playing tiggy, blowing bubbles and jumping off the pontoon with you. If I am still living in the bush at Waiwera next time you visit you will have to have a go on the Tarzan swing!!!. Have a safe journey home, lots of love.

Dad, I definitely think you need the seat. From the very beginning at Muriwai you were raving about that thing, and judging by the excellent pictures, it came in handy the whole trip!

I made a solo cycle ride from one end of New Zealand to the other over the southern summer - 2009/10. I kept off the busy highways as much as possible, and even managed a few 4WD tracks in some of the more remote corners of the country. I finished on 9 April 2010 and returned home ... full info
