EPP - East Pacific Premier - The kindergarten that is now my new place of work. There are two amazing things this place has given to me - Friendship and the opportunity to work with the cutest children. Friendship Fiona, Laura (soon to be known as the Irish - not a derogatory comment) and Val. I don't know if, when the four of us met we knew how much we would mean to each other and how important our friendship would be. Together we had the best times and thanks to them I have the best and funniest memories. These three will be mentioned constantly throughout the entire blog but for now I want to talk about the children and teaching them. The children The main reason for coming out to China was to see more ... read more

Oh my what a week it’s been. After arriving in China I was met by a Chinese lady who works for the company I'm starting with. She was kind enough to meet me at Huanggang border Checkpoint. However what she forgot to tell me and what I didn't know, was that you had to get off the bus in Hong Kong, go through security to get back on the bus to be taken to China for more security checks. Consequently I stood around in the bus station for approx. half an hour waiting for her. I started feeling as though something wasn't quite right. I had a text message in Chinese that she had sent me earlier and after showing it to someone at the station they pushed me on the next bus. Luckily I have ... read more

I'm finally in Asia! After arriving late afternoon the evening before and making it to my hostel, I decided the best thing to do would be to go out and explore. See if I could find the office building I needed for tomorrow. When my alarm went off at half 7am I felt dreadful. I had defiantly NOT slept enough and jet lag was happening, even now 11 months in I still wonder if I'm fully over the time difference. Knowing where the office was that I needed to go to I set off with all my documents. I needed a visa to get in to China. I knew the office didn't open until 9 but after doing research I read that it could have long cues if you went to late. So by 8:15am I ... read more

Have you ever noticed how seeing a parent or loved one cry is like a yawn - catching? It was around 8pm, we are stood in Heathrow and there I was watching my Mum cry and trying not to myself. Well let me tell you, it didn't work. So there we were Mum and I holding each other in tears with Dad stood to the side watching us. With my brother already in America for the last four months standing at airport security it hit my Mum that for the first time in twenty four years she was going to, in away, be childless. How did my day end like this? Well.... The start wasn't much better, 9am and I'm lying on a table having my eyebrow hairs waxed, plucked basically ripped out of me! It'll ... read more

So I thought the best place to start would be before I made the move. Why did I make the move? Why China? Why teaching? Well the last question is easier to answer. I love children and always have. My educational and professional background is all Child based. My college Btec is Childcare Learning and Development my University Degree is Children and Young People. Previous jobs include working in nurseries and schools as a Teachers Assistant and a 1:1. I've always wanted to work with children and knowing I could do it while seeing new parts of the world... I just had too! A lot of people I've met here have said how difficult it was to make the move, how nervous they were. For me I didn't have anything like that. Yes I was leaving ... read more
