Hit and Run, six countries, one month, two girls! We had one month off school for winter break. A whole month to explore Asia. After looking at a lot of different routes and working out the best financially Val and I decided to do Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, The Philippines, Taiwan and Japan. Unfortunately the Irish had friends from home coming for part of the holiday so couldn't join us, they spent two weeks island hoping in Thailand. The first thing I noticed when getting off the plane in Phnom Pehn was how western it was. We were greeted by a Costa Coffee, a Burger King and a Dairy Queen -not what we were expecting! However, on leaving the airport and that are! We discovered that Phnom Pehn wasn't all like that. We had read you could ... read more

Unfortunately the Irish had friends from home coming for part of the holiday so couldn't join us so they spent two weeks island hoping in Thailand. Our first stop was Krabi. We were only there a night before getting a boat to Ko Phi Phi where we were staying for five nights. Once we were checked in to our hotel on Phi Phi island we went to the beach. There's a song by TLC called "Don't go chasing waterfalls" and after this adventure it is definitely something I think everyone should live by! Laura and Val had read about a mountain that had beautiful cherry blossoms, gushing waterfalls and fruit you could pick from the trees and eat. The waterfalls, cherry blossom and fruit were all on the same hike path so we decided to do it. We found out where we had to go and met at the tube station. We then had to take a bus. We thought we knew which bus we wanted but a Chinese lady said we needed a different bus. Why wouldn't we listen to her? She's local and knows the area better than we do. The bus she suggested arrived and so we got on. The hike was ... read more

Christmas isn't really a holiday over here as we know it in the West. Schools don't shut, there's no before or after sales shopping. We were lucky that our company gave us Boxing Day off so we had a three day weekend. In Sea World there's a lovely Mexican restaurant which the Irish and Malika had never been to, so Christmas Eve we decided to visit it. We went for lunch knowing it would be quieter than at dinner and we would probably eat enough not to need dinner. We started with cocktails and finished with cocktails and somewhere in between there was some Mexican food. We stayed in the restaurant for most of the afternoon leaving at around six. No one but me had been to the Snow and Ice exhibition so as it was ... read more

For the past few weeks we have been rehearsing Christmas songs with our children to perform at the Christmas show. Today is the dat of the show and our Christmas Party. The show is all day with K3 first, then K2 and K1 finishing it off. I started the day at the entrance gate waving hello, and handed out seaweed as a present from the school to all the children, dressed as Santa. Yes that's right, I was dressed as Santa Clause -I even put a pillow under my coat. After that parents and children crowded around a red carpet that ran around the whole school. K3 walked the red carpet first saying Merry Christmas to every one as they walked past. I had to walk with our class at the front smiling and waving and ... read more

Two weeks until Christmas Eve! Val and I had plans to spend the weekend in Hong Kong. The company we work for was throwing a Christmas Party on Friday the 23rd and we needed a dress. Our plan was to go to Disney on the Saturday as the Christmas decorations were up and I'd never seen Disney at Christmas. Then spend Sunday dress shopping. So the Saturday comes around and we leave later than we planned but that's ok. We get to Disney around lunch time so we still have a while. We look through the shops, secretly buying each other Christmas presents. We go on a few rides, one we didn't have time to do on my birthday weekend so now we had completed all of the rides.I met Pooh Bear and Eyeore. Pooh Bear ... read more

I had a visitor! My friend Kelly, came to visit me. I still had to work and so during the day Kelly had to entertain herself but during the time we had together we did a lot! Hong Kong Disneyland, Sea World Ice and Snow display, Window of the World and the Zoo. It was only a week since my birthday, only a week since I left Disney and I was back again but this time only for a day. Kelly didn't know where we were going and I wanted to keep it that was so on the last metro ride (which is Disney themed) I blindfolded Kelly and didn't let her see until we were outside entrance. We spent the day in the park, on the rides, looking in the shops and talking. After the ... read more

Happy Birthday to me. Happy Birthday to me. Anyone who knows me, knows how much I love Disney. I've been to Disney Land Paris eight times and this weekend would be my first trip to Hong Kong Disneyland. Changing out of our Minnie Mouse outfits and putting normal clothes on (though where we were going, our costumes perhaps would be more ‘normal’) Val and I left for Hong Kong straight after Halloween day at work. We had booked a Disney hotel for the Saturday night and had thought we had somewhere booked for Friday but during the day we received an email telling us our stay had been cancelled. We still have no idea why. We arrive in Hong Kong not knowing the area and having no where to stay. We try a handful of places ... read more

I know what you are thinking. Halloween isn't until the 31st October and yes, you are right. But this is the school's Halloween day. A day of games, dressing up and fun. We were told by our contact teacher that we could dress up. Val and I decide to get Minnie Mouse outfits. Val wore hers as advertised and went as Minnie Mouse, and with a few alterations I became Zombie Minnie Mouse. Every one loved it, especially the children. I had my photo taken all day long. Laura, Val and I were tasked with an out door game for the children during the morning. We decided to use the holla hoops, putting them in a row of four and showing the children they need to jump from hoop to hoop and putting each one over ... read more

Question - What is there to do in Shenzhen when you have a week off work but haven't had your first pay check? Answer - Plenty! I have had my first holiday - a whole seven days off. I had no money but did I let that stop me? No. I took time to explore the city and spend time with new friends. One day six of us went to Dameisha beach resort. The Irish, Destry, Val, Dawn and myself. You would think going to the beach wouldn't cause many problems but trust me it did. We were stared at constantly, people took our pictures (with and without asking), we even saw a body bag - that had nothing to do with us though! It can be flattering when you catch someone staring at you, it ... read more
