Globe trotting Always smart to follow your gut instinct, we world travelers have developed a 6th sense and it generally keeps us on the right track. Glad to hear you had some great guides. Love your wad of bank notes.
Rich Elton! This is so funny--millionaire for a week! I've always wanted to go to Samarkand--it and the Silk Road sound so exotic, and I love the Muslim architecture--mosques, tombs and madrassas, especially from the time of the bad boy, Tamerlane. Great you found Lien, who travels like you (and me)--such a rare treat. Hope you are over your cold by now.
Wow, what an experience! Brilliant that you met so many great people through couchsurfing. I didn't know that you were a geography teacher--when you return, you're going to amaze your students with your own photos and impressions and inspire them to travel. I love how you are so graceful and accepting of others staring at you and taking your photo--you are a celebrity! This photo is the most amazing I've seen in forever!
5 fab weeks in one of your top 5 A proper end to your amazing Indian journey--famous sites, the India that matched your imagination, Delhi belly and finally some of the infamous train drama, after all your previous train luck. And of course, you had a meet-up with one of your fine, former co-workers, who seem to be in every place you go. Congrats on fulfilling a dream!
Embracing India Elton you continue to describe the sights and sounds with wonderful word pictures. In India they know few foreigners will challenge them about cutting in line. I had to laugh at this. Good job. The foods in India are so wonderful. Your experience at the school was perfect. Glad you sang for them. I know they appreciated meeting you.
Hello,
hahah yes yes, that cutting line thing is common here. I had to stand up for myself ;-) The school definitely a highlight, really nice experience to be able to share with the students. Have you been to India yourself? Highly recommended!! :)
What variety! Beautiful palaces and forts, nature, a safari, friends and rooftop restaurants--India sounds great! I'm also amazed at how easy it has been for you to get train tickets--I'd always heard it was a nightmare--congrats!
Hahaha thanks Tara. Well, in this blog it was quite easy. Wait until the next blog and you'll read how much of a P.I.T.A it was to get train tickets ;-)
Incredible India You've always wanted to go to India so I'm glad you are there. Glad you are able to spend time with couch surfing friends. That has been a wonderful opportunity for you and your past couch surfers. Happy to read more...hopefully soon.
Bon Biní, Bienvenido, Welkom, Welcome, Benvenuto, Wilkommen!
I'm Elton, from the island of Curaçao (Southern Caribbean) where I was born, raised and currently living. I grew up in a local neighbourhood just west of Otrobanda in Willemstad. I speak Papiamentu, Dutch, Spanish, English, regular Italian and a little German. Curaçao is a small but unique Island. It's not the typical Caribbean island with just sun and beaches. It has a rich and interesting history and culture. The capital, Willemstad, is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Visit Curaçao . com ... full info
