Sincere appreciation
Jay and I were so delighted that you and Carol graciously made the trip to Aruba for the wedding. I have no doubts that my parents would have been so pleased that you witnessed this union. Glad you could make this a jumping point for your true adventure. Enjoy Columbia and I look forward to reading about your time there.

Breathlessly Catching Up
Martin, I have no idea how your previous travel blogs slipped by me--but now I am catching up on your admirable sensibilities, prose style and droll wit. It is easy to hear your voice and see your smile in these wonderful lines--and to feel the passing scene. Now I will turn back to your account of Turkey and await more Caribbean views.

My first blog readings
Hi Martin, Until today, I've never had a desire to read blogs. Yours became an exception. Your 2013 holiday email started me out in Guatemala, and now I've enjoyed a history lesson (with pics) about Turkey. How interesting and enjoyable you've made this day for me. Thanks!

Glad you're safely back in cold, old Detroit....
Dear Martin, Well it sounds like you two had a glorious trip, with a fine mix of the unexpected, the researched and the connectedness from friends of yours. Goodness, we really need to meet in Austin and eat the the restaurant of your friend, La Narajana? And then explore so much of interest in that area, including San Antonio and maybe the Hill Country. Thanks for the lovely reporting. Love, Meredith

mistakes and more
Hi I am sorry to hear about the seafood problem, as a chef and restauranteur, I suggest strongly that whenever you encounter a situation like this, without a fuss (we appreciate that) call and show the problem, it is the right moment for us to fix it, and or take care of it!. Loroco can be found frozen or in brine in the US!, sometimes in Austin I can get it fresh!

New Hat...
Very good, this colorful hat, which is just right for these blogs. I was honestly wondering if you were just sticking with the fax out of indolence? Here's wishing you and Carol more wonderful hours and then safe journeys home. Love Meredith

Okay: the blessings of Maximóm.....
The personal aspect of this blog and its pictures of you all in your exotic setting is more interesting than Wikipedia -type histories. This was full of personal details, which I loved. Meredith

delightful
After our blizzard day last Monday, today I had the patio doors open all day bringing in the mild spring-like air. So glad you all are finding these hidden treasures. How do you know which hotels to book? Love, Meredith

Thank you
Thank you for sharing your wonderful adventures. Currently, I have no concrete plans to travel, but I am thinking about Viet Nam. The 21 hour flight might be a deal breaker. Was great meeting you and your lovely bride in Turkey.

Greetings from sunny Lubbock
Hello, dear Carol and Martin, I just read your latest update and am so happy you're seeing such ancient monuments. I spent the day at home yesterday (as did all of Lubbock) due to the white out of our little blizzard. You may have received my pics of the snow-scape here at the 'dobe. My wood-burning stove got a good work-out and kept me and the cats cozy. Love, Meredith

Reliving our trip!
We loved Quirigua and Rio Dulce...spent a week on Lago Izabal before leaving Guatemala. If you go back through, see if you can get to the hot waterfall west of town at Finca Paraiso ...amazing! We are in the midst of a big storm and lost power for a while...back on now, at least for the time being...

Chocolate and Jade
Martin and Carol - Your travel blog is a wonderful thing for me to read. I am hurt that it is transmitted to Jean, and I must appeal to her generaosity to have it transfered to me. Please include me as a "Friend" or whatever is appropriate for me to receive your messages directly. I have thought of both of you on many occasions in the last year. I hope that at some time we might meet again and have some serious conversations. You are among a short list of friends and acquaintances for who I have overwhelming respect. Given the recent political events in the US and the recent news in Detroit, I would value an extended conversation. This request, in no way, should interfere with your travels to exotic places. I love your reports. I love both of you. John Hearst

Antiqua is fine
I enjoyed the time Lynn and I spent in Antiqua, very sensual vibe with lots of creature comforts. It has architecture befitting a former colonial capital, easily viewed on foot without too much traffic to worry about. We're headed for 5 weeks in Spain starting the last week in April. Should be able to chase down some traces of Rome there as well as those latecomers, the Moors. Hello to the intrepid traveler, Carol. -Bill

A delightful report and update.
Hi there, dear Martin! I've just read your (as always) wonderful, informative and humorous blog. How little I know about the rest of the world outside of Texas and Germany! Your blogs inspire me to find a traveling partner and take off, but not yet. I still have too many architecture projects in Lubbock and Quedlinburg keeping me busy and very happy. Love to you and Carol, mm

I've enjoyed your Guatemalan commentaries as much from Merida as I would have from Chicago. From wherever they're written, your comments are always so informative and humorous A great combination! Keep'em comin'!! Abrazos, Phil
