Martin, I have no idea how your previous travel blogs slipped by me--but now I am catching up on your admirable sensibilities, prose style and droll wit. It is easy to hear your voice and see your smile in these wonderful lines--and to feel the passing scene. Now I will turn back to your account of Turkey and await more Caribbean views.

Dear Martin, Well it sounds like you two had a glorious trip, with a fine mix of the unexpected, the researched and the connectedness from friends of yours. Goodness, we really need to meet in Austin and eat the the restaurant of your friend, La Narajana? And then explore so much of interest in that area, including San Antonio and maybe the Hill Country. Thank you for sharing your wonderful adventures. Currently, I have no concrete plans to travel, but I am thinking about Viet Nam. The 21 hour flight might be a deal breaker. Was great meeting you and your lovely bride in Turkey.

Reliving our trip!
We loved Quirigua and Rio Dulce...spent a week on Lago Izabal before leaving Guatemala. If you go back through, see if you can get to the hot waterfall west of town at Finca Paraiso ...amazing! We are in the midst of a big storm and lost power for a while...back on now, at least for the time being...

Martin and Carol - Your travel blog is a wonderful thing for me to read. I am hurt that it is transmitted to Jean, and I must appeal to her generaosity to have it transfered to me. Please include me as a "Friend" or whatever is appropriate for me to receive your messages directly. I have thought of both of you on many occasions in the last year. I hope that at some time we might meet again and have some serious conversations. You are among a short list of friends and acquaintances for who I have overwhelming respect. Given the recent political events in the US and the recent news in Detroit, I would value an extended conversation. This request, in no way, should interfere with your travels to exotic places. Hi there, dear Martin! I've just read your (as always) wonderful, informative and humorous blog. How little I know about the rest of the world outside of Texas and Germany! Your blogs inspire me to find a traveling partner and take off, but not yet. I still have too many architecture projects in Lubbock and Quedlinburg keeping me busy and very happy.
