Thank you for these gorgeous photos Mike--as always, your photos put me right there. I'm particularly attracted to the artwork in these monasteries---sigh!
Churches Thanks Mike for sharing this with us. I love the churches and small villages.

My time in the Gobi was a stop along the way on the Trans Mongolian train trip - Beijing to Moscow. So its sort of hard to price out separately. Sorry! It was an incredible corner of the world, well worth seeing!
The cold desert I was just wondering how cold it would be in September since it's already cold in June :0 I will be travelling to Beijing, MOngolia, and Siberia in September for 2 weeks. Would you have any advice to give?
Unbelievable I have never seen pictures of this or heard of it. Even the pictures are unbelievably powerful. I can't imagine seeing it in person. Thank you for sharing.
Moscow-Russia, not Kentucky Thanks, Mike. Wonderful memories. Did Moscow and St. Petersburg in 1996. Can't wait to see your pics from St. Pete, the most beautiful city I have ever visited.

How we booked When we went, we did all of our arrangements through an Indian government entity, the Maydya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation. I live in Mumbai and they had a local office - but I would bet you could get a lot of information about them on line as well . . .
Thank you Thank you for an interesting, inspiring description. I am headed to Mongolia in July, and your writing is a welcome departure from many blogs that do not include history or appreciation of sights. I can't wait!
unity is the strength I am from kankavli maharastra.the budhist people are very poor .So all the other people are use the budhist people as their wish. The politicians used them for votes only. But their progress is not satisfactary. So somebody has to lead these peopl.
Thank you.
Dearest Ekim,
Thank you ever for these wonderful " journeys" into the lands and with the people you meet.
How exquisite a treasure for us in our own land/scapes to center with the knowledge and

Blessings to you and your life circle,

Computers and Fotos Thanks for the comment, Stef! I'm finally back up with more of the trip - but with fotos borrowed from a travel companion. Everything from one of my main camera from Mongolia to Ekatrinburg Russia was 'inadvertently deleted'. Argh!!!
And I can't wait to write it! Reliving the adventure months later is sweet! And the detail of a ceiling joist in one of the temples. Angles of wood and fine detailed painting. Enjoy the changing of the aspen! Peace, Mike
After a 25 year career teaching in the US, I'm overseas, teaching and taking advantage of every holiday to travel! I've hung my hat in Asuncíon, Mumbai, Bucharest and Prague. Accra, Ghana is where I currently live. Directing the bands at Lincoln Community School is my passion. Traveling is my pleasure . . . . .... full info
