I am Barkevh Bijan, the supreme carpet merchant on the Silk Roads.
Please allow me to share my story…
I was born into a wealthy family of Persian and Islamic descent in 700 A D. As nobles native to the Provence of Iran, my blood line was very well established within the Umayyad Empire. The males in my family have all grown up to be followers of the Umayyad Caliphate. I however, was labeled by my family as "the dreamer", never keeping up with my studies of the Muslim religion or of political affairs, always wishing to be out exploring. It was not the books that interested me, but the idea of the life and culture that came before my own. When I became of age, I embarked on my own trip to see the rest of the vast empire I lived in. I hoped to one day reach the border of the Middle east and cross over to Asia. Each journey has taken me closer and closer to a fulfilled adventure. When I left my nobility behind, I had to find a profession that would be intriguing enough to support my adventurous personality. Now I am a grown man, and my merchantry has led me to Dunhuang, China…. What a city it is…
