Duane Taylor and Cavell Rossiter

I (Duane) have traveled to a few countries and have cycled through many of them. My goal is to continue to travel across the world seeing in from the view of the road and human power. I have several long haul cycling adventures planned out. I do like to travel on the (paved) road less traveled but sometimes it is nice to see places that attract tourist. I am originally from Gander Newfoundland and have lived in St. John's, NL, Winnipeg MB, Arendal Norway and currently reside in Ottawa, ON.

I (Cavell) am from Newfoundland also (Ramea/Port aux Basques) and now live in Ottawa, ON. I have only just begun travelling...my most exciting adventure to date is travelling to Belize, Guatemala and Mexico.
I started cycling a couple of years ago and quickly fell in love. I would love to see a lot more of the world and cycling offers a unique perspective. This trip to New Zealand will be my first epic cycling adventure!!

Sorry there have not been any updates for a long time. So much has happened but it was almost impossible to find a real Internet cafe where we could upload pictures and videos. We felt just adding text through wifi connections on our phone wasn't that good. Long story short. The bike broke down a few more times and the costs andf frustrations were mounting. By time we reached Hanmer Springs we made the decision to pack the bike up and get to Picton by Bus to catch ferry to North Island and then rent a car. You can see several of our videos and pics from links below YouTube channel: http//.www.youtube.com/user/duaneneiltaylor (There are 20 videos from New Zealand). You can also check out many of the pictures on facebook albums: Pics: South Island - url=https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154736593025295&ty ... read more

14km 20m After the brutal day of heat and wind we set off to Te Anau - our base to Milford Sound. The weather has now turned wet, cold and still windy. We head out making great time, communication is working and feeling awesome. What's that sound??? Ping! Snap! I look down the back wheel is wobbling. That was the sound of a spoke breaking and several more becoming loose. Well goddamn it. I don't carry extra spokes. But the true problem is that there is too much load straight down on the back part of the bike. Lucky for us, we saw a bike shop while leaving the city. We manage to bike back to it without the wheel completely collapsing. After several hours, we now had our bike fixed and a trailer purchased to ... read more

131km 1310m ascent. Finally on the bike. 1 1/2 days lost. Despite the forecast saying it will be wet it was a nice warm sunny day. Scratch that...It was a nice and f*&^ing windy day. Supposedly the gusts were 45km. I call bullshit on the meteorologist. Maybe in the towns it was but in the Catlins 45km/h was the average and the gusts were at least 60km. I also want to give a "F*&^ you" to google maps. Google said 814m ascent...no bloody way 1310m ascent by garmin and almost all of it was the first 75km. Suffice to say it was hard and hot. Thanks to being in Balclutha there were no stores open to get sunscreen and the first place with a store was Mataura 80km in. By then we were baked and wind ... read more

67 F&^%*&% hours after arriving at Ottawa airport we finally get to our final stop before biking. Mind you the final stop of our transit is now in Balclutha. Where the hell is Balclutha??? Let's backtrack shall we? The flight started normal enough...we specifically asked if our bike and checked bag would be at Dunedin when we arrived or if we had to pick it up along the way...."No...", we were assured..."they will be there waiting for you." Sweet! On to Vancouver. We had a 9 hour lay-over and used the time to visit Granville Island and had an excellent meal. Then back to the airport for our wonderful 14-hour flight....whew! On Sunday morning 0530 we arrived in Dunedin. No bike....no bag. We were told we were supposed to have picked them up in Auckland. Damn ... read more
