April 23rd, arrival and Barcelona It has been a wonderful day so far. sorry for no caps, i am at the hotel and this keyboard is not normal. our plane was 45 minutes late in taking off last night, because of rain, so we were about half hour late this morning, and arrived 9 am barcelona time. easy to get the baggage and get a taxi. our driver was very nice and helpful, and comunicated well with dicedawg who has a limited knowledge of spanish. i understood maybe 3 words. the taxi was 28 euro. we had a slight problem when we were close to the hotel...la ramblas was closed! It is (oops I just figured out caps) Sant Jordi day (St. GeorgeĀ“s day) and there were lots of festivities. Girls give books to boys, ... read more

Cast: Me: Dicecatt, age 35. I travel a lot for my job (self employed in the travel industry) and I LOVE IT. DH: Dicedawg, age 46...manager at a casino and as I type this learning Italian on the Rosetta Stone program. Cast to be left at home: DD15: AKA Whiney, she is a high school cheerleader and a singer who will be most crabby at the restrictions on her while we are out of town DD11: AKA Drama, she is a competitive cheerleader and so tiny she weighs the same as our 4 year old, but is a huge personality DS11: Drama's twin brother, AKA Goofy...is going through a "what can I say that will be funny" phase. Most of the time he is not successful. DD4: AKA Spoiled. That pretty much sums it up. DMIL ... read more

Europe April 21st 2010

Well...with all the Volcano upset this week, we have been worried that we wouldn't make it to Europe. We were more hopeful than most since Spain didn't seem as affected, and Barcelona airport was in full function most of the time with the exception of a few hours on Sunday. But, I am happy to report, I just did online check in for our flight, and all looks great! We could have upgraded for $500 each, but that is money that I couild spend in Europe so we skipped that. Dicedawg has a CPAP machine that really needs to be plugged in and apparently there are only a few rows with plugs, not sure what will happen with that, because the reservationists couldn't tell us what classification the rows were (probably first class). I hope we ... read more

Europe April 9th 2010

Two weeks from tonight, we will be on a plane to Barcelona RIGHT NOW. I can't believe all of the things I still need to do...I bought a luggage scale yesterday, and I weighed the suitcase I've been throwing random things into and although it felt heavy to me, it was only 14 pounds. I discovered I am quite weak. I used to be strong when the twins were babies, lugging around two baby seats will give you muscles like you wouldn't believe. So, I have to get clients prepared for when I am gone, find coverage for specific clients, set up the daily household schedule for DMIL who is babysitting my crew, two cheer banquets, cheer tryouts (high school and all star, two different kids), last cheer competition (in Kansas City), keep my house clean ... read more

Europe April 4th 2010

I had 40 people at my house today...whew! One great thing that always comes out of that is the house gets really clean! So now, I just have to keep it that way for my dear mother in law who arrives in 16 days to watch our rugrats for us while we go on our jaunt to the Mediterranean. So now, I get to devote all of my spare time (between two cheer banquets, an out of town cheer competition, my youngest child's birthday, and a few more major things) to our Med trip! 18 days away! I picked up our Euro on Friday. I decided not to wait and get it out of ATMs once there. It makes me feel better just to have it, and I can make cute little envelopes for my tour ... read more

Europe April 1st 2010

I was reading someone else's thread about what they planned to do in Corsica, and another poster made mention of a Hertz car rental close to port, only two blocks. I thought, "what a good idea!" However, that location is closed on Sundays, and when will be in Ajaccio? Yes, that is right. On a Sunday. So I am reverting back to the "we are going to wander around and just check things out" plan. So weird for me...Planning an unplanned day is very difficult for a planner like me!... read more

Europe March 27th 2010

I have so many things still to decide/arrange/complete. 1. Cruise docs. Dicedawg's passport arrived (took only 2 weeks) so I need to finish that up. 2. Figure out international calling and email access with cell phone carrier. 3. Figure out whether to get Euros ahead of time or just hope our ATM cards work in Barcelona:) 4. Arrange transportation from airport to Hotel Curious in Barcelona 5. Finish and print the Google map I created of the sites we wish to visit in Spain 6. Figure out Corsica. I'm still not convinced we want to do Las Calanches, it looks amazing but it is expensive, and 4 hours of driving is a lot! 7. Have Dicedawg arrange for a tux 8. Fax medical form for Dicedawg's Cpap machine, and fax our prepurchase of Onboard credit (because ... read more

Europe » Italy March 9th 2010

After much debate (between Dicedawg and myself) we decided to forgo Portofino (sniff) and see Florence. We chose a private tour, and I am happy with our decision, because I think I would have regretted not seeing Florence. Someday, maybe for our 15th anniversary, we'll come visit Italy again and explore a bit more, and I'll get to see Portofino. But it just isn't worth skipping Florence! We found some fellow travelers to join us on the Disney boards, I love that networking ability. So there are 8 of us, and here are our plans: Touring with Rome in Limo Company. I am very impressed so far with their efficiency. One thing I noticed is that private tour guides for the Mediterranean seem to answer so much more quickly than any of the guides I used ... read more

Very, very, very happy! Obsessive doesn't even describe how many times a day I would log into our cruise reservation, and then obsessively check the Disney boards to see if anyone else on our cruise thread got their assignments. Last week, those on a back to back (first the 14 day Transatlantic cruise and then the 11 day Mediterranean) began getting their Med cabin assignments. Quick break down on what I am talking about when I mention "cabin assignments", when you book a cruise, you can choose your category and cabin, or choose a GTY, or a "guarantee". Sometimes the GTY is the only option. That means, you are giving the cruise company the ability to put you wherever they need you, sometimes at a reduced cost to you. It is a gamble. I rarely hit ... read more

Europe March 1st 2010

I am anxiously checking my DCL reservation daily (sometimes more:) for my cabin number. We have a guarantee Cat 11...we could really be ANYWHERE on the whole ship. I am keeping my fingers crossed for a balcony, although I don't really care...I just want to KNOW! If we don't get a great spot, we'll get to the port early and try to upgrade. However, if we get a good spot, we have another 1/2 day touring open in Barcelona, so I am extra anxious because I can't really plan Barcelona until I know my cabin number. Come on, Disney:)... read more
