Sporta is an iOS sports reminder app where a user receives pre-selected reminders for UK football matches that they selected. The idea of a sports reminder app such as Sporta started off a few years ago when I was living abroad and missing boxing matches and international rugby matches. I looked for a sports reminder app that could remind me of when these fixtures were occurring so that I wouldn’t miss them but I couldn’t find anything. There were some sports reminder apps but would only alert the user when the match was starting which would have been too late for someone like me who wanted a reminder in advance of when the fixture was starting. There were also some sports reminder apps that a user could set a reminder in advance but the user had ... read more

Arrived into La Paz after a long journey from Peru via road and sea, although the last part we had WiFi on a bus which I was quite amazed at. La Paz is a very busy, noisy city and a bit of a dump to be honest. The only reason to go there is that there are loads of tourist agencies from which to book your trip to the Uyuni Salt Flats which is the main attraction in Bolivia. Just so happened that the Dakar rally was going through there on the exact 2 days that I could only go so I didn't go :( If you can go to Jose Linares street which is full of all sorts of lovely and quaint little shops selling all sorts of things (about the only nice thing in ... read more

South America » Peru January 12th 2015

So I crossed the border into Peru with no problems and then got off the bus at a town called Tumbes as that is where the bus journey ended. We (me and these two Chilean girls) then had to find somehow of getting to Mancora. We eventually found a mini bus that was going there and I remember it feeling like we were like sardines in a tin, packed in with a whole bunch of Peruvians. After what seemed like an eternity we eventually arrived in Mancora and I made my way to the hotel that I had booked before. Mancora is ok. The main attraction is the beach which is average at best and along the road that runs parallel to it there are loads of bars and restaurants. Be aware that when you book ... read more

South America » Ecuador November 11th 2014

Arrived in Quito from the border crossing with Colombia pretty tired (been travelling from Cali for about 24 hours) and took a taxi to my hotel. Quito is really nice, took a walk around the city and really liked it. Full of history and colonial charm I spent hours walking around the city centre. You can visit inside the Presidential palace (when el Presidente isn't there), you just need your passport and they will give you a guided tour for free (it's part of the Presidents "the country belongs to the people" thing). Did a day trip to the equator (in case you didn't know Ecuador is equator in Spanish) which was really interesting (although the actual equator is about 200m away). Plaza Foch is the place to go to in Quito at night, it's where ... read more

South America » Colombia November 11th 2014

Flew into Cartagena from Panama which is a bit pricey but the only other way is to go by sailboat which (apparently) is an amazing experience but is a lot more money and obviously takes a lot more time. Cartagena is really nice, the old town is really historic and lovely to walk down the narrow cobbled streets. Make sure you visit the military museum, loads of history about Cartagena and how Drake sacked the place. I didn't find Cartagena unsafe at all, I am a bloke which makes it easier but if you are streetwise you should be ok. Be aware that if you have coke on you and are stopped by the police they will take you to the nearest ATM and make you take out all the money you can for them or ... read more
