XMAS MKTS Thank You Thank You for bringing into view what I remember as one of the real joys living in Ansbach. I was a radar tech assigned to an IHAWK unit and lived in the Barton Barracks ~ Bob Silva
Bamberg I spent much of my youth in the Bamberg area as my father was stationed there from late 1960 - mid 1963. I hope that more pictures are posted. Excellent so far.

Thanks for the info! We are going to Garmisch the end of March and it looks wonderful and we will be staying at the Edelweiss Logde as well. The information you provided will help me plan my vacation with my husband!
ARMY LIFE I WAS IN THE ARMY ,BAMBURG 1968.AND WALKED THE TOWN OF BAMBURG,WHAT SIGHTS TO BEHOLD,SURE HATED TO LEAVE,THE TOWN AND PEOPLE MADE ME FEEL AT HOME,FOR A YOUNG MAN AWAY FROM HOME FOR THE FIRST TIME,THEY SHOWED ME WARMTH AND FRENDSHIP.
Am so enjoying your travels! Have you ever visited the Himmerod Abtei? Kind of wanting some info. There's a cemetary adjacent to it. Small with an outbuilding (probably a keeper of it). The deaths dates are all within same time. Individuals all same approx. age. Am wondering if you get over there if you would find out more about it. Am assuming a WW2 site. It has haunted me since I was there in 1990's. No search on the internet has revealed it. (There is a cemetary for the Himmerod itself, but this isn't "monks", etc. burial ground.) Thanx..your site is bookmarked as it is such an enjoyment for me.
Glad to hear from you again Hi Paul and Kate,
Lovely pictures and I have been watching your Blog anxious to hear about Tenerife! I understand this has been a "hot spot" for years. How was it over the Christmas/New Year holidays?
Take care, Cindy
Next time you visit Garmisch you may want to stay at the other Hotel Edelweiss, much quainter and within a few minutes walk of the walking zone and the old Garmisch which many tourists miss. The web site is: www.hoteledelweiss.de
Nearby is the Braustueberl, an old brewery and local restaurant that has been there for a long time. Less touristy, but worth a visit. Viel Spass on your trip to Garmisch.

i was just in berlin i took the walking tour, brian is great we went out for drinks after the tour, im lucky enough to live in edmonton, and ill be attending one of his operas soon
Garmisch I love your photographs. They brought back many wonderful memories for me as I used to live in the area back in the 1970's. I've seen all of King Ludwig's castles and have always been completely fascinated by the man. I like to think he was more eccentric than insane. Ludwig was also the great benefactor of Richard Wagner without whom, the composer may never have been able to achieve the recognition he did. Two beautiful cities to visit, Berchtesgaden and Freiburg im Briesgau. Happy travels.
This is amazing We were staying at the Edelweiss Lodge the same time you were. We were there for two weeks and saw and did as much as possible. We rented a car and visited lots of villages not on a tourist map. Heard that it had a terrible flood this week.
Awesome This looks fantastic! It's really professional looking and very easy to scroll through (without having stop and click "open" on each and all of the dialog boxes for opening .jpgs. REALLY COOL! I can't wait to show the kids... suggest at least one picture of Blogger and Spouse! :) We'd like to SEE YOU enjoying the adventure and REMEMBER what you look like! :)
Love you,
Beca

Our voyage through life has taken a rather pleasant and unexpected turn. After spending three years in Bavaria in the beautiful town of Ansbach and two more in Landstuhl, near the French and Luxembourg borders, Kate was accepted for a two year extension at the Landstuhl Military Hopsital. So, our journeys will continue for us here in Europe, at least for the next two years. I hope you will enjoy our adventures and stories of our trips. So, please join us. As I have shared with you before what St. Augustine said, “The world is a book, and those who do not travel, read only a page”. I hope... full info
