Well so much has happened since the last blog its hard to know where to start! However, we are now in Italy after spending a couple of days working our way through St Tropez, Frejus, and Monte Carlo. Unfortunately we did not win any money at the casino but then we are winners anyway so who needs it! The weather could not be better, with beautiful sunny days and not a cloud in the sky. UsualLy gets up to 25 degrees during the day. We have alternated between taking the coast road, and then when Deans blood pressure starts to rise due to it being like rush hour traffic every time you hit a small town, and the state of French and Italian driving, then we hit the toll roads so he can relax a little ... read more

Europe » France » Languedoc-Roussillon » Beziers April 2nd 2011

Bonjour, it is that time again when i give Shelley a break from amusing you with bathroom stories and traveling wit and i write a blog, after a couple of sun soaked days in Barcelona we have headed back up the coast to Beziers, After finding a nice campsite in Adge we decided to grab the site by the pool, this has turned out to be an error as the chorus of frogs,(not Frenchmen but actual frogs) in the pool has just started and they appear to have plenty to say, Barcelona was another amazing city and so different from the other major cities visited on this trip, the only common theme among them being the amount of people on motorbikes and scooters, while walking for what seemed like days (shelley said it was only 3 ... read more

Europe » Spain » Catalonia » Barcelona April 1st 2011

Hi everyone. We have made it to Spain and the weather is glorious. What a diference from one side of the Pyrenees to the other. After staying the night at a ski resort town called Ax-le-Thermes, in which there were hot springs but none at the camping ground, and they could have done with tapping into them to warm up their showers, we left there following dorothys instructions, heading up the mountain on a switchback, sometimes one laned road, only to get about 7 kms up to a sign saying the road was closed. Dean was all for taking the risk and going there anyway but I put the handbrake on that idea and we went back down and I took control of the map and direction finding and sent us through a very long tunnel ... read more

Europe » France » Midi-Pyrénées » Ax-les-Thermes March 29th 2011

We have now travelled through the stunning countryside of the Dordogne and the Midi-Pyrennies and it is definitely a place I would like to explore further. People certainly built their homes based on security rather than practicality that's for sure. However I would like to digress a little and disclose my findings on sanitation blocks in France and share a little story. The further south we have travelled, the more interesting the state of toilet/hygiene blocks have become. For one, they have become unisex, and in some cases the dishwashing, showering, laundry, urinals, etc are all in the one place. Some are larger than others and some only have one shower. Well it is the low season so some camps have other blocks that are closed but in most of the camps we have stayed at, ... read more

Europe » France » Aquitaine » Bordeaux March 27th 2011

We have spent a couple of wonderful days in Bordeaux, enjoying the sunshine, the wine, the cheese and the bagettes. No wonder we have to walk a lot otherwise we would be starting to roll around the villages of France! However, I have discovered the wonders of cooking with wine; white wine with the chicken and herbs etc the other night and red wine with the steak last night. It was delicious...We only have to remember to save some for the cooking. We experienced our first thunder storm last night in Bordeaux, along with some showers but today having started with a little drizzle has once more cleared up. We are now into the shorts and Tshirts, however maybe not yet in the evening. We got a free tram ride into Bordeaux, only because we were ... read more

Europe March 25th 2011

It's been a cruisier couple of days just traveling from one campground to the next and then relaxing in the sunshine for the rest of the afternoon. The weather has definitely got warmer the further south we have travelled and we are now breaking out into the shorts and singlets and yes there are photos to prove it! We are now in a very nice camping ground in Bordeaux and well stocked with wine, cheese, and other supplies so we will eat well tonight and explore the town tomorrow. We have learnt that it is pointless to expect any service at shops etc between the hours of 12 noon and 3 sometimes 4 pm. It may say open at 3.30 but it's obviously an approximation. At some campgrounds it is the same; the gates are shut ... read more

23 March, Bonjour, It has been an amazing week in Europe, with plenty of new experiences had, I have seen sights in Amsterdam and Paris to make the average motorist wonder how on earth does this work, organized chaos if you ask me! Both Amsterdam and Paris are full of bikes and motorbikes mingling with cars and pedestrians and it is incredible that everyone seems to know how it works Driving has been pretty good with my wonderful ladies to guide me as I try and remember to stay right and watch for bikes but the roads are great, however, although I am now fluent in 3 words of French, the Rd/St signs could use a little work. Speaking to locals is still confined to the 3 words and a hasty exit. I am still amazed ... read more

24th March 2011. I will start by saying that I apologize for much maligning Dorothy. I now have complete faith in her as she navigated us both in and out of Paris, and right to the door of our last few destinations. God knows where in the world we would be without her! The gorgeous spring sunshine in Paris! You couldn't ask for better. When we arrived 2 days ago we walked the 7 kms to the Eiffel Tower from the camping ground and then along to the Arc de Triumphe and then back again before dark. It was a bit of a power walk! Yesterday we decided to bus into town and then we got the hop-on hop-off tourist bus to see the sights. We stopped at the Eiffel tower once again as well as ... read more

I spent a bit of time this morning giving Dorothy a bit of a going over and managed to change most of her settings and reprogramme the b***h, even to the point of turning off her voice. But after she behaved herself getting us easily out of Bruges, I gave her back her voice and she is now taking us the easiest way to our next destination. We arrived here about 2pm, parked up the TinMan at Camping Zeeburg, and took the tram into town. It's a rainy old day here in the 'dam. Luckily there are quite a number of cosy little cafes to duck into when you want to warm up. We found that we needed 3 stops during our wanderings!!! Having located the central station we managed to find the correct tram and ... read more

Well, we made it across the ditch! Yesterday we spent the day exploring Portsmouth. Had a one on one tour of the Cathedral and wandered the old town. As this is where my Grandmother was born, it was great to feel the connection to the place. We then headed to Brighton and walked the pier before heading to our campsite just outside Hastings. Yesterdays weather was foggy and cold, although a little clearer when you were closer to the coast. The mist seemed to invade our bones by the end of the day so we were a little cold. The van is very cosy though when you are tucked up inside. We managed to do another load of washing before we left blogger and set off this morning for Europe. We drove to Folkstone, and bought ... read more
