Glen Sutton Yes I agree Glen Sutton is a very freindly and beautiful place. I grew up there and now live in Alberta. Your story brought back old memories of a cherished place.
Question about the campsite in this photo... I'm looking for a good campsite up there in Aroostook Cty and this one looks quite nice. What is the name of it? Congratulations on your journey!
Good account, good writing Darril,
Enjoyed your narrated account of the trip from Moosehead to Chesencook. The details make this trail section come alive. If i recall, the actual writer of your blog details is your wife. My compliment s to you both as story teller and writer respectively. This section is of interest to me since i am about to do this very same section, two years later to day almost to the day of this account of the journey for this section. I think yours is the best blog of the NFCT to date.

Canoe Model Which of the Nova Craft canoe models did Darrin use? I'm looking at the Bob's Special with an interchangeable center seat/yoke to paddle solo or tandem with my wife. Blue Steel w wood trim.
Any thoughts on this boat?
Nice.... Sounds like a great trip, just a bit too rainy for a desert rat. Can't believe the number of moose you saw. Amazing! You've definitely got me excited about getting up to that part of the country!
Windbound Hey Darrin,
I was thinking of you and Eve when passed the Leon River yesterday, I just returned from a trip on the Bloodvein River and we had quite a bit of cold and rainy weather. Wind chill was a factor! Hope you are having a blast! Just thought I would check up on you.
Cheers Dave
Keep trucking Hey Darrin! I have enjoyed reading your posts. Congrats on your trip and having made it so far. I finished up in Ft Kent back on 9/4/07 and missed, on purpose, the Dead Rvr, Spencer Strm and Flagstaff lake sections. I am heading SOBO on the AT now, heading back to DWG where I left off 7/6/07. I have talked to many friends (NOBOs) who mentioned meeting you in Stratton.
Keep going man! I'd love to visit with you sometime. Ben and Jessee of the Wisconsin 2 finished when I was in NY and we actually met. They were driving back to Inlet to pick up gear and I was just portaging around a dam. They saw me from the road, stopped and we visited. They have some great stories and some awesome deer meet jerkey.

Progress is being made! Glad to see that progress is being made, and that you are safe.
Hope the weather holds out for the rest of your trip. You rock Darrin.
Time on the water Well Darrin, I have to say that your's is the best exit from Rutabaga that I know of so far. Keep enjoying the journey, thanks for the postcards, we're all really happy that you're able to do this trip.
Be safe,
Sasha
You're almost done! It was nice talking to you the other day. I hope you were able to get back on the water today. Good luck with the rest of your journey!
living vicariously w/Darrin Darrin...I am enjoying/relishing each installment of your adventure. Also feeling a bit of jealousy as you paddle some places Manda and I know well from our time in the 80s living in Vermont. Eve's notes are particularly fun, especially the one on the healing properties of Duct Tape (we should have known...) You should begin to get some colors in just a few days, lucky duck. Paddle on!..LWD
Proud as a Peacock! Hi Darrin, I just wanted to let you know how proud that I am of your adventurous spirit, even though the thoughts of sleeping out in the woods for 2 months sound absolutely crazy to me. We look forward to reading this blog as you continue the journey and hope that you continue to stay safe. Love Mom
Happy Paddling! I am so envious of your independence! Glad you're having an adventure. I'll keep watching your blog (I've linked it on mine), and look forward to hearing "war stories" in person when you return. Bon Voyage!

Darrin L. Kimbler solo thru-paddled the 740-mile Northern Forest Canoe Trail (NFCT), an historic water trail through the forests of New York, Vermont, Quebec, New Hampshire, and Maine. His journey was completed over 50 days, from August 12 - October 1, 2007. The water trail was officially established in September 2006; and Darrin was one of the first fifteen people to complete a thru-paddle. For more information on the Northern Forest Canoe Trail, see www.northernforestcanoetrail.org.
Darrin didn't spend much time behind a computer while en route, so I kept this third-person narrative f... full info
