signs When looking at your picture of the various signs (Ramada two directions) I was particularly struck by the two political signs of people running for the position of "jailer". I wonder if a democrat or republican won!
Hi, Patti! But how hard can it be to teach five year olds! I spent enough years teaching kindergarten to know that the statement "Oh it must be fun to just play with the little ones all day long" is reason enough for assaulting someone! But the good news for you is that the year is almost half over....almost!!
Tell everyone hi for me!
Hi, Margo! Undoubtedly poor nutrition causes the decayed teeth, as well as people being either over-weight, or too thin. Plus, if/when a tooth causes trouble, it's pulled out, because that's cheaper...and then that leads to more malnutrition. It's troubling, that's for sure.
Hi, Sara! I tended to see the world as being similiar to mine, and how wrong I was! I, and you, grew up ignorant of so much. Las month was an eye-opener for sure.
Hi, Lisa! It's always a strange thing to be someplace where history has happened, and I've taught about it. Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad was a big even in history. I'm glad you're enjoying it!
thanksgiving We will be staying home. Billy's Mom is coming to visit them. Having several couples over for dinner late afternoon. We would love it if you could come! Q smokes a mean turkey on the grill.
poverty I agree with you that you are in one of the poorest parts of the country. I don't think anyone would believe how poor unless they saw it for themselves. Just last year there was a special about how many people (including small children) in that area are without teeth because they drink mountain dew instead of milk and have such a poor diet. Add to that smoking at an early age and the future of working in a mine and you can see why people in that area don't live to be very old. It is a very sad place to experience.
love the travelogue It is so interesting to learn about the country through your eyes. I love your spin on everything. Your honest remarks and reflections on things kind of remind me of life in my classroom. What a crew this year! We were all talking about switching rooms for a day...just for fun. No one wants my room!
Hi, Margo! That's what I'm thinking! The bad side, though, is that as leaders, we need to stay closer to camp, with the team. But we'll see what we can work out. Just out of curiosity, what are your Thanksgiving plans?
Hi, Lin! Rosie told us about the auction and said you had a good turnout; that sure brought back memories~~good memories! I'm sure it's difficult now, and especially with those work schedules, but once you're on to your new lifestyle, I hope Jim feels more settled with it. It's very exciting, that's for sure! Call us if you need to buy some mouse traps~~we're well stocked, and haven't had a mouse since we left the last camp!!
Hi, Carrell, When we bought our first motorhome it had dryer sheets in every drawer and cupboard and on the furniture, and there wasn't one single sign of a mouse. We tried it, but you must have need more than we had around. We're on the go now, and haven't had one for five days~~that's the longest we've gone since July!!Hooorrrraaaayyy!
PS If Noah hadn't had two, we wouldn't have any!! ;)
not nice mice Don't know if it will work, but try dryer sheets in the drawers and cupboards. It probably won't keep the mice out of the motorhome (all possible holes will need to be plugged for that), but they don't like dryer sheets so it may keep them out of the drawers and cupboards. Maybe once you get moving, you can catch all the ones living there and no new ones will enter. Even Noah only had to have two!
Noble Greeting Vicky, your blogs just make my day.. I hear your voice as I read them.
Don't know if you heard, but we had an auction sale and sold everything; lots of stress in this 5th wheel. We are renting to a young couple from Sidney (she is the title teacher at Rau). They are guaranteed one year of rental with first option to buy. Jim is having a hard time dealing with the change, but the time felt right to me. It has been insane around here with the move, auction, etc.., and then to make things worse, I have been working for the past 3 weeks at Express Employment hiring workers for beet harvest. In the evenings, I'm working at the scale house for 4 hours, and Jim is driving truck all day. Thursday and Friday I accepted a subbing job... We are both about loony (or loonier). Hope to leave for Arizona about the 3rd week in Oct. Keep the blogs coming.
Love,
Lin, Jim, and Lilly
Hi, Lis~~ It's up here, but it doesn't amount to much! It would be easy to make a life lesson out of that, wouldn't it?! Let me know if you need a lecture! mom
We retired the end of 2006, and started traveling the country, working with RVICS~~Roving Volunteers in Christ's Service. (Pronounced R-VICS.) We live and travel in our motor home, and work at Christian camps, schools and conference centers accross the country. RVICS isn't affiliated with one denomination; rather, it's a Christ faith based ministry. We don't travel as a group, but whoever is assigned to a particular project meets up on the beginning date. We're on each project about four weeks.
If you are interested in more information on RVICS, please log on to: rvics.com, or contact u... full info
