Mt Abu We can't remember the name of the hotel but shop around. The town is small so don't worry about walking to a few hotels and don't stay at the first place your transport drops you at. We payed about 500 - 600 rupees for a decent hotel but the first place we were dropped at wanted 750 for a dingy, dirty room without a window!!
Info! Hello, very interesting blog, could you please tell me where is the nice and cheap hotel in Mount Abu because I'll be there next week, thank you very much, nama
HERE IN MERIDA TO STAY I arrives on April 30, 2010 after a 6 and a half day journey by car from Pennsylvania, USA. YES I drove and all by myself, It was an adventure that took me three and a half days from the border. I drove 12 to 14 hours per day. I stayed in Tampico the first night, Veracruz night two, and Campeche night three. I paid an average of 65.00 US per night. I stayed at better lodgings with secure interior parking because my car was packed with all my belongings. I felt safe most of the time. There were a few stretches of road that were very solitary and had I known I would have traveled different hours but overall I enjoyed the scenery and especially the time driving through the small villages,
I have rented a house for the month and I have already found a much cheaper house with three bedrooms for 300.00 US that I will rent for 6 months until I figure out where and what to buy. I love it here so far. The food is great so many choices. The town has so much to offer free music and dancing in the plaza, free movies, free cultural events, folkloric dancers etc, . The buildings the atmosphere and the people are electric. I've been to Progresso the beach it is beautiful. I plan to go to the ruins in a couple of weeks when my husband joins me.
I have already adopted a liitle girl from the local dog shelter http://www.evolucionanimal.tk/ The lovely Maya woman Silvia who runs the shelter currently has 143 dogs. She lives on the property with the dogs lovingly caring for each and everyone. She knows each dogs story, she knows their personality and of course each and everyones name. The shelter runs strictly on donations. If you are inclined to visit please do so. She is very welcoming and if you want to volunteer she always needs help bathing the dogs, I was there last Sunday and helped her bathe about 40 dogs.
Money goes further here although you can spend alot too. It's all a matter of how you want to do things. So far I spend a few dollars a day on my brakfast and lunch. I will usually make my own breakfast early in the am. Coffee toast oatmeal or the like at about 10 am, I go out and have more coffee some delicious natural fruit drink and some local food like tamales with pupmkin seed sauce very yummy. The cost of that acout 4.00 US. Later in the afternoon I may stop in for a cocktail and snacks Tapas like eggplant dip, empanadas made with a spinich like filling, and a black olive dip served with a cruchy bread that is covered with sesame seeds that you smash to pieces and enjoy the dips.
'Cost of the Teuila and lime juice drink with the three Tapas 110 pesos about 9.00 US. Dinner at the more expensive and trendy places still less than in the states.
Merida so far for me alot of fun, a great place to visit or live you'll fall in love just like I have.
Melbourne - the place to be! Love the photos ... love the update! Hoping the last leg of your journey is as wonderful and adventurous as it has been! Take care xxxx
Hi there,
Love to read all your stories!! Love seeing pictures and reading things that are somehow recognisable ;)
O and bye the way...it happend in 2000 not 01. Not that that matters too much but this year is the 10 year anniversary.
Mad to realise we are 10 year older now!!!
Hi Guys I have to say that is one good looking burger Dan. No half measures with our Dan.
Don't worry about the frog Nat - They can climb out again. Piece of Piss.
Noooo I want to be there. I love it guys - I want to eat at nice food stall. yes yes I do. Unfortunately I get the runs just looking at you eating good local food.
See you soon.
Trip so far............. Dan and Nat the trip looks absolutely amazing!!!!!!!!!! The photo's are just breathtaking and the added stories make it a very entertaining read. I am only halfway through all the blogs and are looking forward to reading on.......... Hope the rest of the trip is as enjoyable as it has been so far and I look forward to hopefully catching up with you both in Queensland. Adios Amigo!!!!!!!
Tight Arses US$1 for a cheap arse bribe..... You guys really are tight arses.... They should have locked you up just for refusing to pay it!! Loks like you are having a great time.... Enjoy!!!
Wakeboarding and wakesurfing next! Great to see you carving up the Murray Dan and Nat! Let me know when you hit Darwin and we can do it all again (sort of). My boat is an Air Nautique, which is a purpose built wakeboard boat, so it is not much fun to ski behind due to the size of the wake. But you can try your hand at Wakeboarding or Wakesurfing with us at Manton! I can probably even take a day off and go mid week so that we can have the dam to ourselves :-) ....... Nat won't mind dodging the crocs hey ;-)
Pushkar & India Hi Joanne, we can't remember what the hotel was called in Pushkar but it was about 50m from the hindu temple, it features in Loney Planet. We paid 700Rs which was the most expensive hotel we paid for on the entire trip. We would recomend walking away from hotels which don't met your budget at 8/10 times they will drop the price to meet your budget. On average we spent 500Rs but we weren't too picky as we didn't spended much time in the room, we just made sure the shower worked and it was clean. Only in Jodphur did we struggle to find accomodation so you shouldn't worry about just turning up in all other towns.
Have fun!
Pushkar Loved your reading about your trip to India I'am going with three others this December for 4 weeks just wanted to know what the hotel was that is in the pic with the pool we want to organise as much of the trip ourselves to save money do you have any tips please
