We loved Alaska too! Hi Dan! Loved your Alaska pics and commentary. I remember Anchorage and the train to Seward fondly. Tom and I were there for my last "Shirtsleeves" in '95. We also spent the entire train ride hanging out between the cars...except for the trips to the barcar for Bloodies. We hope to go back someday, it was awesome.
hugs, Laurie
Hi to you too, Barb.
It was a lovely outing -- spring in Sonoma/Marin, the farm, Dan and Claire and....the pig roast in Tomales among friendly local folk...perfect.
Thanks, Dan. xoxo, Mum
Portland, pickles, garden Great pictures, all. Good to see your garden thriving w/your automatic watering system -- mine too! I may have paper-white narcissus in bloom soon -- I love the fragrance.
xoxoxo, Mom
aphids Your lettuce looks fabulous -- wish I could join you for tonight's salad!
Have you tried importing ladybugs? They love dining on aphids. You can buy them by the hundreds at a garden supply store, I think (my experience is decades old, I'm afraid), and though you can't convince them to stay if they want to fly away, they often stay where dinner is plentiful.
oh my gosh! looks like an amazing trip. bears, as you may or may not know, are my favorite animal. i had never thought about going to alaska, but from the photos it looks absolutely beautiful.
sweet. Uncle Dan what a sweet trip! I've always wanted to have just such an adventure. I'm leaving for Israel on Friday. Will be there for two weeks. Let's swap adventure stories on Charlie Day. Hope all's well, love you and miss you.
Close to my home... Hey Dan,
I forgot to mention this to you before...On that google map you have of your route, search for "Curitiba"; that is my hometown back in Brazil...
your amazing circus experience Wow, what great photos and what a great experience! I love the photos! You'll have to demonstrate how you balance on the ball next time we see each other.

Welsh in Argentina? Interesting to see derivatives of Welsh in Argentina. This is similar to language seen all over Brittany, France, where names written in "Breton" are largely unpronounceable to the non-native.
Portenos By the way, your comment about "condescending toward the country, the city and the people," we found that very frustrating ourselves. I know you know not everyone is like that, but it's those who are that make travelers from the US look bad. I'm sure you've found that the Portenos are also very critical of themselves.
We felt BsAs was as enjoyable as it was BECAUSE of getting to know the Portenos. They are very passionate!
Good times Hi Dan, sounds like you're having a fantastic time. Provoleta, yum. Roquefort empanadas, even more yum. Keep the updates coming, Jen and I really enjoy reading about your adventures. You didn't meet a guy named Carlos Servantes at your English Language Club dinner by any chance did you?
Matt
¡tu eres el jeffe! mira!
sounds like excellent adventures uncle dan. thanks for your message on the 20th. it means a lot and i appreciate it. looking forward to hearing more about your trip!
cuidate.
tango Thanks for describing your experience at the Argentine tango classes/dances -- I hoped you would be dancing and would tell us about it!
It sounds like you're not wasting a minute, and my gosh, Dan, what great shape you must be in to cycle, dance, and walk the city.
I like how you're not sending us a travelogue -- it's a Danologue, with your kind of thoughtful commentary on what you're experiencing.

Photos? Hey Dan,
Sounds like fun so far. Can you post photos to this blog? You must have taken some....
I'm sitting in a recording studio in Hollywood, waiting for Julia Ormond to arrive for her ADR (Automated Digital Recording) session on film called Surveillance, directed by Jennifer Lynch (David's daughter) whom I just met. Supposed to rain here tomorrow--yay!
I'll be reading Thanks for starting this blog -- I'll be following it! (I was going to invite you to check out my blog, too, but the notice says that "links are automatically stripped" -- darn!)
Your pal,
Joan
