Lanshan County - the old market - photo's and Freddie the spider whom I let go when the rains dried up. Yesterday I followed some of my students to the old market in the town, a bazaar, the heart of it stood like a multi story car park, and although not confirmed I am pretty sure that is what it was, although I can't imagine Lanshan having such a thing. We were on the top floor, with all the clothing and household wares. I looked for trainers and whilst they all looked nicely made, on closer inspection, when pulling back the insole you found a mish mosh of string holding them ... read more

I feel I may have started this a little late on in the day as I am expecting a Skype call in ten minutes and then need to go and get some grub, although I am not particularly hungry, but so far I have only had 1 meal a day, no breakfast and I will either have a late lunch or early dinner. I don't know why, perhaps its the heat? So I wont go into my arrival to China at Guangzhou Airport it was ... read more

Well after weeks of sleepless nights and worry I had my leaving do, friday night, and the nerves started to dissipate and excitement began to set in. Once it started it didn't stop, I was practically giddy with just a little niggle in the back of my mind that actually this Volcano spewing out ash into our airspace still had not subsided even a bit, but of course pint after pint of ice cold beer put that thought to bed. Saturday I got a little more concerned and the more the hangover lifted the more it dawned on me that this situation really was likely to scupper my plans, by that evening I was almost resigned to it but with the hope of grabbing the next available flight out. This morning I woke very ealier after ... read more
