Hi all, I know it´s been a while, but we´ve been on the move. We left Jocotopec about a week ago and headed to the coast by bus. Let me tell you ... it´s been quite a challenge to arrange bus trips without knowing Spanish. Tried calling the bus line - no English spoken...so we winged it and finally ended up in Manzanillo for a couple of nights. The bus´s (we used Primera Plus bus line) are really comfy and luxurious...and air conditioned. We also get a free drink and lunch with out bus ticket! On the first bus trip I ate half my sandwich (white bread, a slice of processed cheese and a skinny piece of ham)....because I was so hungry....the next trip, I made sure I wasn´t too hungry ! Jim got a sandwich ... read more

Wendee had some business to attend to in Ajijiic, so she dropped Jim and I off to wander around for the afternoon. We ran into some ex-pat ladies and asked them where would be a good place to have lunch. They told us that the Mardi Gras was on and if we went just a couple or 3 blocks over there, we would hit the 'Plaza' and there would be lots of good eats...that's also where the parade ends. Every village in Mexico has a Plaza which is a central gathering place for everyone. There are booths set up with lots of good eats, drinks, and trinkets. There are loads of metal benches to sit on as well. The whole family goes down to the plaza to socialize and have fun. I hear it's especially busy ... read more

We've been pretty busy down here. Jim has been going to the farm almost daily, but we took a couple of days off and went out to eat a couple of times. One place we went is San Juan Cosala - there are many open air places to stop and eat....and drink right beside the lake. Another place we went to was on the west side of Jocotopec - it's a place where there is a big brick pit built with a fire going in it. There is meat stuck on a huge metal stick and stuck right into the ground beside the fire....it's tended until the meat has been cooked perfectly. The day we were there , the available meats were lamb, pork, sausage, and quail. We ordered them all and had a taste of ... read more

When we got off the plane in Puerto Vallarta Marie met us and drove us to Anna and Chrystals place - in the older part of the city. She had arranged for accomodation for us...we ended up staying 2 nites. They were most gracious and drove us all around PV to see the sights...I was definately on sensory overload! We sat on the back patio quite a bit and just drank in the beautiful trees, plants, and sounds. Oh the sounds! There was shrieking from roosters all around us - dogs barking, birds, loud Mexican music...and trucks constantly going by with loudspeakers blaring announcing things. It was really hard to sleep as the sounds died down for a bit, then the dogs and roosters would start up randomly. It's a crock that roosters only crow in ... read more

I've seen and experienced so much that I don't even know where to start or what everyone would be interested in hearing, so I guess I'll just babble! The other problem I have is that we're on 2 computers out here - the old Acer desktop and the new Toshiba laptop we donated. All my pictures are on the Toshiba, so what I'll try and do is just add a new blog with mostly pics. We spent a couple of days in Puerta Vallarta at a bed and breakfast place that is really off the beaten path in the older part of town. I'll write a seperate blog about our experiences there. We're now settled in with Marie and Wendee in Jocotopec which is on the shores of Lake Chapala which is the biggest lake in ... read more

My location says Ajiijic, but it's the closest town to Jocotopec which I can find as Jocotopec isn't listed....so Ajiijic = Jocotopec (Joco for short from now on to save me keystrokes :) I wanted to keep all of my blogs in consecutive order so you will get an idea of the progression of my trip, but I give up...I'll just blog from the point I'm at to capture what I'd like to share at the moment and catch up later...for a computer geek like me this is very hard to do....but what the heck...I'm on vacation and not everything needs to be in THE EXACT ORDER !!! It's 2 pm here and i'm in Jocotopec at Marie and Wendee's house which I'll call 'home' from now on. I'm having some time alone which is cool ... read more

This is my first trip outside of the States or Canada. We had to be at the airport in Edmonton at 4 am, and me being the procrastinator that I am, of course I was doing laundry, etc up to the last minute. Jim picked me up at 2:30 am and off to the airport we went. We had one short layover in Pheonix, then landed in PV at 3:00 pm. No sleep yet! When we had to go through Mexican security, we found that there were lineups of at least 50-75 people in each line...and there were about 5-6 lineups (maybe more). Of course we picked the SLOWEST one! It took us FOREVER to get through. My friend Marie (from ACA in Jocotopec) picked us up at the airport - wasn't hard to find her...then ... read more
