I have traveled to the Bahamas numerous times. As a child living in Florida, my dad would “ship” me off to the Bahamas to spend the summer months and Christmas breaks with my paternal grandmother in New Providence (Nassau). Every summer, my grandmother would gather up me and my cousins and we would take the mailboat to Acklins...our homeland for the summer.
As an adult, I travel to the Bahamas at least twice a year. I live in the U.S. However, I have never visited major cities in the U.S. like New York, L.A. New Orleans, etc. Instead, I would rather travel to the Bahamas. I have visited Bimini, Eleuthera (Harbour Island), Grand Bahama, Nassau, Crooked Island, and Acklins. My goal is to visit each Family Island in the Bahamas.
I love all the Family Islands. While each Family Island offers a unique island experience, Acklins is my favorite. I prefer Acklins over other Family Islands due to my ancestral lineage to Acklins, the numerous secluded beaches and harbors, the historical archaeological findings, the untouched natural beauty of the land and wildlife, and the intimate hospitality provided by the local residents.
