Day Four of Fifteen: Rust Rocks of Bicheno We didn't have a very long drive today, just shy of eighty kilometers along mainly undulating pastoral and agricultural country with some hilly and forested sections that has views of the coast from time to time. Bicheno has a population of around 700 and is not very large but the coast line is interesting. We arrived about 4 hours before the official book-in time and were asked to come back about an hour later when our cabin would be ready. This gave us plenty of time to visit the area where the crayfishing fleet ties up. We also took advantage of the small supermarket to buy supplies as we planned to cook at the cabin tonight. The Cosy Cabin at Bicheno was a nice size and we ... read more

Day Three of Fifteen: Short cut to St Helens We left the Cosy Cabin located at Hadspen and turned onto B54, following the road until it joined Highway One. A few kilometers up the road the Prospect turn off was seen but we continued into Launceston. The car was out of gas and now running on petrol, to be safe I decided more gas should be taken onboard. It soon became apparent that the service stations in this part of town didn't supply gas. We were looking for a sign marked B81 but I got lost again and finished up in the middle of the main business centre of Launceston. We noticed an Information Centre and got directions and a small map. About this time I had discovered in the growing number of pamphlets taking ... read more

Day Two of Fifteen: High Cliffs Last night we noticed a sign pointing the way to Sheffield, it didn't take long before we were heading south out of town. I had ticked off a few places of interest to visit today, the first being Devil's Gullet. Along the way we both commented how green the countryside appeared. It was mainly farming landscape with sheep and cattle in abundance. I had not taken the still camera out of its case until today when the first impressive site of Mt Roland dominated the view from the car. Within no time the small town of Railton was passed and next Sheffield where we stopped to buy some supplies from the local supermarket. "Everything expensive!" was my girlfriends comment when she got back into the car with two nectarines. ... read more

Day One of Fifteen: Long day across Bass Strait The last of the travel bags were loaded into the car and we left the eastern suburbs for Port Melbourne where the Spirit of Tasmania was waiting to take us across Bass Strait. We pulled up outside Station Pier at the first check point. The official looking gentleman asked a few questions concerning whether we were carrying any fruit or fire arms. Both questions I was able to answer in the negative. We moved off further down the pier to the next person dressed in a green safety jacket. After a slight confusion concerning directions from the Indian traffic controller we joined a small line with not more than eight cars in front of us. As usual we had arrived early so I turned the engine ... read more

Well its been a while since putting anything on this site. I gave up photographing kids in kindergartens so my traveling stopped as well. For the last few years I have mainly been shooting Deb Balls, School Socials, University Graduations, Sport Team Photography and Dance Schools all not really interesting to relate to the general public. I have decided to use this site to document trips that I have experienced in the past (hence dates that are not in order) ... read more

Wednesday, 8 December 2004 For me its been a busy year. Travelling to a different country town most weeks. Many parts of southern New South Wales, Canberra and Victoria have been visited. Even one trip into South Australia. Many towns are visited year after year. Some places I enjoy because of the kindergartens I work in. Other destinations are welcome because of the people I meet or tourist attractions found in the area. I've had many centers where I jump at the chance to re-visit. I treat the staff as if they are my own clients. Other places, when finished, I make a mental note that I don't want to ever visit again. Work for the company has now dried up and will be that way until March next year. This is the first year in ... read more

Thursday, 11 November 2004 I've been in Griffith since tuesday afternoon when I arrived in the afternoon following a four and half hour drive. The weather on that day was hot enough to drive with the air-conditioner on. I had been to this centre last year but for the life of me, can't remember doing the job. Forty children were photographed yesterday and I worked so hard in the hot sun I became dizzy. The staff have been extremely helpful and this enabled me to do the job well. I'm back at the usual Budget Motel on the eastern end of town. Compared to yesterdays weather which was around twenty six degrees, today has been wet and windy. This will probably be the last job for the company this year.... read more

Tuesday, 26 October 2004 Today I took a pleasant four hour drive from Melbourne to Lakes Entrance. Checked out the centre and it looks like a busy three days coming up. The Budget Motel is four star accommodation and is next to the eastern end of the lakes. My evening meal was at the Waterwheel Beach Tavern on the shore of Lake Tyers. The weather is muggy but I think sleep tonight will be without too many problems. Wednesday, 27 October 2004 After sleeping well, I woke around six o'clock. Outside it was raining heavily and I noticed the window had been left open all night. Arrived at the centre and talked to the director about the next few days of photography. I decided to work this centre differently. Didn't worry about how many shots I ... read more

Tuesday, 12 October 2004 This mornings session at the Kindergarten was the shortest I have experienced. I got to the room at nine o'clock, only eight children needed to be photographed and was finished three-quarters of an hour later. I headed north out of Bendigo, by way of the Midland Highway. This took me to the border town of Echuca, where I crossed the Murray River and into New South Wales. The town of Moama was passed and I was now on the Cobb Highway. At Deniliquin I left the major highways behind and followed a secondary road to the town of Conargo. I was planning to turn towards the east but at the junction I noticed a sign indicating a lookout, seven kilometers north of town lay a flat landscape which promised to stretch between ... read more

Sunday, 10 October 2004 This morning I had to photograph a communion at a local church. It was after mid-day when I left for Bendigo. A three hour drive through Yea and Seymour. The weather was warm and no traffic to talk about. I was going to stay at a Best Western Motel but on approaching the outer suburbs of Bendigo I drove right past the motel and finished near the Kindergarten I was due to work in the next day. I noticed a Golden Chain Motel across the road and enquired about accommodation. The only room they had left was a family unit. So for the price of a single bed which was eighty dollars a night, I thought it was good value. It was a large room with a clean bathroom. There was also ... read more
