Now officially our favourite National Park! It had it all: lovely surroundings, natural wildlife and beaches that came out of nowhere. We came into close contact with a deer, a sloth and seen a venomous snake that, if bitten, would kill you within 20 minutes (used the lens for that picture). This is a definate recommendation for anyone going to Costa Rica. The pictures of it speak for themselves. ... read more

Next we headed to the Monteverde Cloud Forest. From the bottom you cant see the top of these green mountains (monte verde) for the clouds. We drove up and up this very steep mountain until we were at the level of the clouds. The drive was pretty daunting as the roads were narrow, unpaved and on cliff edge the whole way. It is mistaken for a rainforest as it is so wet but we were informed this is actually condensation from the clouds. The views from the top were both overwhelming and spectacular. We went on a trek through the cloud forest where we spotted spider monkeys, plenty of insects and learned about many of the flora and fauna living there. By far the best part of this place and possibly the entire country was the ... read more

We spent our first week volunteering at a conservation project for endangered sea turtles on the beautiful Matapalo Beach. It was situated in the heart of the traditional communities of the Tico people with only one small shop and certainly no tourists for miles. With very basic accomodation, no hot water, a diet of rice and beans and bans on alcohol we all knew straight off it was going to be a long week. We had arrived under the pretence that we may not even see a single turtle or egg, but in actual fact everyone in our group got to see what they came to see and probably much more. Our week consisted of nightly three hour patrols of the 6km beach, watching over the hatchery (where the eggs were kept), making nests for the ... read more

We landed down in San Jose town with some what of a thud. Its as manic and crazy as you would expect when you step foot out of the airport and the taxi ride left us clinging onto our lives as well as our seats. The main word we used to describe San Jose was 'dirty' and thats in the kindest way. But it is by far the starting off point for some of the most beautiful scenery Costa Rica has to offer. So we spent our two evenings here relaxing and reenergising for what was to come...... read more

We thought there would be no better way to start our next bout of travel and working abroad than to go back to our second home on the Cape. And we knew from the moment we got there we had made the right decision. Three weeks with the OE guys would have been enough fun to last a lifetime and that was before the real hard work (and fun) had even began. Working 12 hour days can definately be fun depending on how much your willing to put into it. Luckily we were joined by our third muskateer this year, Claire's sister Gillian, which brought the summer to a whole new meaning and level making probably our best summer in the states. There are too many memories to put up here and too many awesome new ... read more
