Great Gorilla Blog! Thanks for taking the time to share your stories. I too am doing my best to plan my upcoming trip and do all the homework here so when I arrive in Uganda I can just have fun and see all the wonderful sights. What tour compnay did you use for Bwindi?
Any luck with your family growth! (I too think this is my last backpacking trip before children.. after that I guess it will be more creature comfort travel). THanks again!
Bwindi Company Hi Jane Ann, thanks for reading! We used African Secrets Limited out of Kampala. The main contact is Haddy, whose e-mail address is on their website (www.toursgorilla.com). I just did a search and there are actually 3 companies out of Kampala with very similar names: Africa Secrets Ltd, African Secrets Limited and Africa Secrets Limited! ( Ours was African Secrets Limited). In Buhoma we were told that they are one of the best value-for-money companies. If you have the opportunity, ask for Godwin as a guide. He was an excellent guide and very knowledgeable re. Ugandan politics, culture and wildlife. If you have any more comments or questions feel free to ask!

ups and downs great pics as usual. fun to read Chuck's comments, gives a sense of the constant ups and downs of traveling. always good to see the pictures of you two. makes you seem closer to home.
love you
Halloooo! Hey guys! I'm not at all crazy jealous of the adventures you're having. Nope. No way.
When I met Sandra Wilson in the early 1980s, her family had just moved back from a CUSO posting near Maseru. She told me that sometimes tiny frogs came out of the taps of their house. And...that's much of what I know about the place.
Also, oddly, my boss in the middle of the three-week trip around Southern Africa. I'm not sure where he is now; last I heard from him was before New Year's and he had already visited Krueger and was heading to a different wildlife preserve to camp for a few days.
I hope you are keeping well and safe. I have a project to work on before you come back, so expect an email from me soon. :)
yeah, more blogs I was rewarded in my daily search to find this entry and the next. Great that you had a couple of good days and impressive that you are flexible enough to change plans when necessary. Looks like it paid off. You are both looking good which is a relief for moms and dads. love you
loved the face you look ready for your arabian nights in Zanzibar with that face paint. it looks quite exotic. looking forward to the next chapter.love mom
what canone say but wow great write up, that and the pics do give us the feeling of how fantastic your experiences have been so far. it is all rather surreal from this end and probably from yours too. keep it coming, love mom
No soiled suits? Great entry Rachel! Of course it made me jealous, as did the photos. Even though you didn't discover their "power and beauty" (you make me sound like a Discovery Channel biology nerd!... i.e. pretty accurate), I'm glad to hear that the experience dispelled (and didn't amplify) the crazed man-eater stereotype, at least for you two. Did the other people on-board feel the same way? Keep the stories coming, and I'll read them when I'm home from Peru! Love Romney
Shark Dive Wow that must have been awesome, I think we would be too chicken. Gords' retirement party is booked for Jan. 28th.
We hope you will be home to join us, it is also his 65th birthday. Work is pretty busy, but we are managing.
Keep up the photos we do enjoy!!
Butterflies vs Sharks Ya, so, a few years ago i went to a butterfly conservatory. i was a little freaked out by hundreds of butterflies landing on me and flying around. Something tells me that if butterflies make me feel uncomfortable I probably should never get into water with sharks. Your journal entry was great and i'm very glad you're both alive and have the photos to share. Still missing you.
Kat xoxo
So dassies are the closest relative of the elephant...those must be some huge rocks they're scurrying across. Keep up the posts guys! Great hat Chuck - love it.

Jealous! Just a tiny bit jealous. I miss you guys already. The pictures you are taking are really great - very beautiful shots guys. Looking forward to the next post.
PS. Acacia is wearing the Adidas shoes you gave her Rach!

thank you This sounds wonderful, we are planning a trip to south america next year and look forward to a river boat trip. Great information...thank you!!
Hi from ML Just think the rain is necessary to all the beautiful flowers you have pictures of. Today is a lovely sunny day and I was out for a 40 minute walk in the sun. Had a nice lunch with Lynn, Barb, your Mom, Judy and ML. Did some shopping too. Today is the USA Canada hockey game - part of the round robin not the finals or anything. Be safe and I am glad Rach that you are feeling better.
Love,
ML
Here we are again, and this time we are leaving on our last big trip before trying to start a family. We have chosen Africa because of the wildlife, the exotic landscapes, and the price. This trip will be a bit different from our South America trip because we have planned a specific itinerary. We found that the spontaneous approach to travel that we took in 2009 meant for more wasted planning days during the trip itself. This time, we have spent countless hours doing online searches, bookings and wire transfers in order to have everything arranged beforehand. We will discover which approa... full info
