Geo: 49.2764, -0.705529Last night we had a wonderful dinner at a Rick Steve's recommended restaurant here in Honfleur. We had a light picnic lunch touring D-Day stuff, so we were pretty hungry. Plus, we have to wait until the restaurants re-open at 7 p.m. Luckily the menus were in French and English. Instead of ordering the multiple courses, which is fun, but a lot of food, we focused on what we wanted. I had a wonderful pork tenderloin in a rich mushroom sauce with an unusual but fantastic layered potato/cheese baked yummy goodness. Dot had a baked veggie/polenta dish that she enjoyed. Of course, I had to have my profiteroles for dessert. Covered in chocolate sauce. Yes, I ate all 3 of them. We ate breakfast at our hotel again this morning. I forgot to tell ... read more

Geo: 49.2764, -0.705529Today was our D-Day tour with our guide. I don't even know where to begin. Our guide, while a little quirky, was very interesting. We couldn't ask questions during his spiel. We had to wait till he was done. Even so, he had great stories to tell and kept it interesting. We started in Arromanches and saw the beach, some bunkers and guns from both sides. We there we went to Omaha Beach. He did a great job explaining the logistics of the invasion. The beach is huge! And there is no cover. I can't even imagine. From there we went to the American Cemetery. It was surprisingly moving. Our guide had some good stories of some of the men there. I did not realize that US bought the land and it is American soil ... read more

Geo: 49.4195, 0.232602Left Honfleur by car this morning - getting much better at driving. Found an easy way out of town. Only made a few wrong turns. Our GPS lady is a little slow to react. We are still using 2 GPS and several maps. Also getting used to the stick shift again. 6 gears. We have a small SUV 4 WD DUSTER. It is a brand we never heard of. Will take a pic tomorrow and see if anyone can figure it out.Once we got to Bayeaux, where we are staying, we must have made 15 turns to find our hotel. Aren't there any direct paths to a destination in this country? Then the GPS stopped as at our 'destination" a little too early, so we parked the car and found it on foot. Much ... read more

Geo: 49.4195, 0.232602We spent the day walking around Honfleur, France. Small port town reminiscent of the Italian coastal towns. Many unique shops and galleries. After breakfast at our B&B – wonderful croissants and pastries, we tried for some culture. We hiked up to the top of the hills to see Our Lady of Grace Chapel. Very old small chapel with a maritime feel. They have elaborate bells that ring on the hour. Lots of pictures below, plus a short video if it ever uploads. My videos won't upload to the travel blog. Here is a link to a very short video of the church. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBHUUOU7p3Q Marilyn and Peg - this is for you.Beautiful weather today. Sun has been shining all day. Apparently, Normandy is very rainy, but we have been very lucky so far. There was a ... read more

Geo: 49.4424, 1.09849Started early with taxi pickup in London at 5:15 am. Eurostar to Lille, then train change to Rouen. Dot had a minor panic attack on the train from Lille to Rouen. She thought we were supposed to go through Paris and when we didn't, she couldn't quite figure what happened. but it all worked out.to my sisters: had to pay 70 pence (about .90 US) to use the toilets at the Eurostar station. At the Rouen station it was .70 euro. I better stop drinking soda. BTW-Dot made it 4 hours on our bike tour without any water, food or pit stop. I think that is a record.I already Facebooked about my language barrier at McDonalds in Lille. the cashier couldn't understand my English or French. It didn't get any better. Geo: 51.5002, -0.126236We originally planned to go Cambridge today, but we kept changing our mind. We ended up staying in London for some more site seeing.Started at the British Library. It doesn't take long, but it is free and I wanted to see the Davinci books and the Beatles stuff. It is all still fascinating. All the museums have gotten more interactive. Many of the manuscripts that they display one page of - you can go to a computer right there and look at the entire book. they had Davinci's journals, Jane Austen's handwritten manuscripts, all kinds of cool stuff. Then we returned to the Imperial War Museum, since we made such a quick trip yesterday. We wanted to see the WWII stuff since we are going to Normandy shortly. I posted some pictures from there. That ... read more

Geo: 51.5002, -0.126236We had a full day today. We were up early and of course there was no place open for breakfast before 8 am. Even the restaurant that was supposed to be open at 8 am was running about an hour late. Crazy place. Dot got about 2,000 steps before breakfast because we were walking around killing time.Once that was out of the way we headed out for our adventures, which started with the Tower of London. Yes, we have been there before, but we love it. We saw the Crown Jewels – just love looking at them. We were talking to one of the guards who was actually from Georgia. She filled us in on some English history. Went through the armory and the prison. Saw the Ravens and Traitors Gate. Always fun stuff. We ... read more

Geo: 51.5002, -0.126236Pegthought we would give you some more info from the Churchill War Museum. It was extremely well done. Not only do you tour the rooms that it all really happened in, with an audio guide, but they also have a huge interactive section chronicling Churchill's life. You could spend hours in there if you are really interested in his life and history. With the audio tour, there were options to listen to real recordings and interviews. That's how we got to hear the recorded call from Truman to FDR.You would expect big rooms and stuff, but because it was all underground and reinforced concrete, it was tiny and like being in a bunker. They had living quarters for a lot of his leaders and of course, their secretaries, but they were one room - cot, ... read more

Geo: 51.5002, -0.126236Busy, fun day. You can see pictures of our breakfast below. Then we headed for the tourist attractions. Tried Westminster Abbey, took some pictures but the line was too long and it was outside where it was very windy and chilly. So we moved on to Parliament Square and then to the Churchill War Museum, which was surprisingly fascinating. It is in the actual building and rooms below ground where Churchill ran the war. Small, tiny rooms the leaders had to sleep in. Old scrambled phones. We heard an actual recording of Churchill talking on the phone with FDR. I have a pic of the war room below. They reset the rooms exactly as they were at the time. Had lunch at an old pub in the theatre district where I had my traditional ... read more
