Postrcript Zagreb was a great city where we enjoyed good coffee and saw The National play live in an outdoor gymnasium. From there we stayed at a winery a few hours from Lublijana in Slovenia before crossing back into Italy. We fell in love with Venice, our trip ily coinciding with the Venice Biennial. Lake Garda and the very serene Lake Corlo followed. We finished the trip hiking in the Dolomites.
Hi Just in case you think we didn\'t look at them!! Wow what a sunset and what are those lumps of meat hanging up in that bar?
And is the sea the other side of that sand dune?
Have fun
Camper Van Great photos Chris, the light looks really good for the photos. Nice to see the van in some of the the photos, makes it all look more real somehow. Looks like some great weather as well.
Sorry - I hadn\'t scrolled down to the end of your photos - you DID go to the museum. That\'s the way to be buried with paintings of feasts and fun all around you. Great.
Rome and south Love the stories and the photos. If it's not too late to remind you, don't miss the museum at Paestum which is right next to the site for the awesome painted tombs. I've done lots of drawings of Paestum which I'll show you when you return. And if you can drag yourself away from the beach take a bike ride up to Carpaccio which overlooks the plain, It is a crumbling town with some abandoned palaces, very atmospheric and slightly different from the Renaissance type old towns. One of the photos looks like Todi - is it? Lots of lovexx
Fab photos as usual. Not many pictures of shorts and T.s hope the weather isn't too disappointing. some of the buildings and statues etc look huge. How did they do that!!
Vanners in Italia Do let us have any tips you have re caravanning in Italy. We were able to share some of our experiences of France with you so are very interested to know what the differences are. Glad you are munching your way through Slow Food - what a dream Italian food is. There is a useful area north of Florence called the Mugello - there is a lake with campsites and rail connections to Florence with about a 30 - 40 minute journey.
Inclement weather and the budding spring Good to read your latest blog. The snow must have been so beautiful but it's a drag when you don't want so much of it. Hope you are keeping cosy in the van. We flew back from Venice yesterday over 100s of square miles of snowy mountains (Dolomites & Alps). North of the mountains there was solid cloud all the way to Gatwick. When we arrived in Bologna on 6 April they had their first sunny day for weeks. The townsfolk were really happy, everyone was out enjoying the sun and eating their ice creams, and street buskers played (jazz bands, classical trios, harpist). Bologna is worth a stop. Big friendly city, 25 kms of colonnaded streets, pink, ochre and sienna colour buildings, loads of culture and music, and some of the best food in Italy. Economical too. We had 3 glorious days in the hills north of Florence and walked every day through very green fields, with the orchard blossom just emerging. Then 3 hot days in Venice 20C. We've had a perfect break in 3 Italian paradises.
