I hear you about the snakes Sounds like quiet the area for some rest and relaxation. I feel for you with the snake issue. I live in the American West where there are rattlesnakes and I wear snake gaiters anytime I am outside. I have done this after nearly being bit a few times, one in particular where a snake bit my boot in mid-stride and not the leg that was placed right beside it. Anyway, you might want to look into snake gaiters or some other snake proof gear. That looks like an enchanting area you guys have. I would love to visit. Love the water and mountains. Great pictures.
Palawan Tips Hey, my wife and I are off to Palawan next week and would appreciate some tips on accommodation and things to do. Any pointers would be unreal!!!!
Thanks!

We did our big trip 17yrs ago now and reading your blog bought back lots of happy memmories.we now live in Perth and just happened to be on that red eye flight on boxing day to Brisbane that ended up in Sydney !!................ It's a small world??? Have fun on your next adventure wherever it may be x
super!! What a great blog and amazing adventure! I've been in Tibet 3 times and luckily never got sick like you. Glad you described the situation there: police everywhere, like if a war is going on. I visited before 2008 and it was different. What a shame! Thanks for the super entry.
Blog of the year, 2010 Congratulations! :) This blog was nominated one of the best of 2010, in the Asia/photography category.

Home Sweet Home Blimey...just when we thought your adventures couldn't get any more...well, adventurous! We are so plased to hear that you are back safely. Hopefully see you very soon in the S.H! xxx
LOL love your blog - lots of memories of THAT stupidly long boring road and wonderful Ningaloo...and flooded out roads :)
I personally think roos are suicidal too...why wait 4 hours for a car to come along in the middle of nowhere and jump out infront of it to certain death? stupid marsupials!
Glad you enjoyed your trip.
Looks so amazing, I want to go there! And kind of reminds me of Thailand :) Looking foward to catching up with you guys when you get back to NZ...we are in Auckers now so let us know when you are back!!
Wow wow wow :)
So many nice sights! Glad to see you enjoy it after all the hardships on the mainland. By the time you read this you must be back to the Kiwi brothers and sisters. Hope you had a safe last flight, and, good luck on your life, part 2 :D
Oh and of course I am glad I will see many of the nice places you visited on the Phillipines :D
(A pet snake? And I thought my little lizard companion in Okinawa was already spooky enough :))
Cheerio!!!
Hey guys!! Sorry it's been a while....WOW you have been to some amazing places since we last checked in! Stunning...What an interesting (and entertaining!) read. So many adventures. I was on the edge of my seat reading all about your altitude sickness Anna, you poor thing! Good on you for sticking with it and staying there though, I bet you are so relieved you did. Nice to see you're back down at sea level and having a relaxing time now though :) (aside from the close encounter with the snake..eeek!)
So you must be on your final leg through Australia now I guess? Looking forward to reading all about it. Our applications are all done and sent off now so we are waiting with fingers crossed for the job offers now. It would be nice to see some lovely photos of Oz to keep us inspired through early-morning phone interviews...so keep up the good work!
Just incase you were missing the British weather, we have been under a blanket of snow for the last couple of weeks! Jealous? I thought so :) Other gossip from England...we got engaged! John proposed during a lovely weekend trip to York. We were a tad upstaged by Prince Will and Kate, who announced there engagement only a few days after ours (the cheek!), but it's all very exciting.
Enjoy your last couple of weeks on the road!
Take care xxx
Wow, definitely more expensive! We visited El Nido in August 2007 and were paying 500 pesos for a beach front fan room...seems like the prices have really rocketed there! We have heard that more and more people are visiting, so the sad fact is that prices will keep going up along with demand. A lot of the coral, as you say, has been destroyed mainly due to dynamite fishing in the past and it's never recovered which is such a shame.
Fab photos and we don't blame you for running away from the snake...scary! Safe travels Donna and Neil
Unspoilt Paradise Truly stunningly beautiful ! Your photos look great ! I really do hope that it will remain unspoilt in many years to come. Perhaps the higher cost to travel there is a good thing to deter large number of tourists/travelers swarming in !
Hi guys, We've just read your latest blog and seen the fantastic photos. This must have been the most amazing experience and we can imagine how scary it must have been coming up close with the rhinos. You've really made it so real and you could have a career change by writing books. It's been amazing to read. Thanks and take care. Safe travels.
a good heart-thumping in Chitwan It was a good trip down memory lane reading this blog as back in '99 I did a similar trek through Chitwan's jungles with a guide armed with a stick, surrounded by things higher on the food chain than we were. We too, went through the 10' high elephant grass, already on edge after having to look for 'the next tree you plan to scale in the event you need to' for hours. Except when our guide stopped us dead in our tracks in the grass, we could hear something large coming through the grass and he turned around wild-eyed in panic and screamed RUN!!. You've never seen 5 tourists run so fast. After about a quarter mile we stopped to look for the guide who was nowhere to be found. We backtracked toward where we had run from and found him sitting on the ground, shaking and laughing. He wasn't putting us on, he was shaking from adrenaline like the rest of us. What he had thought were wild (angry) elelphants turned out to be a buddy of his taking his elephant through the park. We all had a good nervous laugh about it but boy, money can't buy the very real experience of running for your life! Thanks for the memory. :)
just in time...... been thinking of visiting Petra. Maybe next year. Your blog came in handy. Reading it in installments.....for better digestion ;-) been busy lately, so just read the first half. will resume sometime later. but hey, thanks for sharing this.
A couple of mid 20 year olds, started this blog back in 2006. We left our homeland of New Zealand and set off on our trip of a lifetime.
These entries follow our travels from our New Zealand to London and back again. Total geeks - no Las Vegas or full moon parties here. We used '1001 Natural wonders' to plan our trips. Sometimes riding 5 hours on the back of a motorbike to see a waterfall or random rock formation.
Since arriving back home in New Zealand in 2011, travels haven't been much of a priority. The arrival of our amazing little baby has made us hang up our backpacks for a little... full info
