MINNESOTA! Great pictures of the North woods! Way to get out and explore Minnesota. Nothing better than some nice mosquito bites and some camping! I just started a MN based blog. It's at www.theminnesotaman.com
Flags in the City "Living in Chicago, I rarely see the American Flag displayed, save for schools and government buildings."
I've never really thought about that, but you're right. I can't even think of any flags downtown. Are there flagpoles on/by the bridge where State street crosses the river? Or is that just the Illinois flag? Or am I imagining those?
Yet, even in the suburbs it's different. In the far southwest reaches of the 'burbs where I live, there is the largest flag I've ever seen flying right on the side of the highway by the exit I get off on.
Bush=Mistake Picture Before I read your caption, I thought the graffiti said "Sushi Mistake" - which could either be a really cool or really awful name for a sushi restaurant.
Hey Hey Dave
I just finished the last short story in your book of Raymond Carver.
It was pleasant and easy reading.
I liked this writer so much, that I'm going to give the book to the English class at my working-place-highschool.
I'm gone write down your name and blog-site on the flap, so every reader will know this book is presented by you to the Belgians behalf of the American people.
I wish Susy and yourself a fine ongoing trip.
greetings
Anneleen and Didier

Great info! John: Thanks for the info and comments...From my understanding, the interest in Dylan Days is weening, with fewer and fewer people attending each year.

I use a safety gadget called NO NAP it emits a buzzing sound as soon as i nod off i then park my car at the nearest station take a short nap and back on road
Things Have Changed i made my hajj to Hibbing the summer of 1975. At that time, there was no Zimmy's, no painted garage door - in fact, no evidence whatsover that His Bobness had once placed his bootheels upon those streets. Talking to the locals, there seemed at that point to be a bit of resentment about their native son's fame - one bartender told me that Bob's brother David was "twice the musician" Bob was, and openly scoffed lyrics which spoke of 'sniffing drainpipes and that stuff." Times have changed; there is now a "Dylan Days" event every May which attracts Dylanphiles from around the world, and I understand the name of his home's street - Howard Street - has been changed to Bob Dylan Way or something like that. I feel fortunate that I was able to see the town in its "precommercialized", pristine state, but also plan one day to attend the 'Dylan Days" in the future. Hope you enjoyed your trip to the North Country - and you trumped my own Dylan fixation with your sampling of the Hibbing soil! John Pilecki, Pittsburgh Pa.
