Yesterday was a complete and utter right off. I was so tired after all the exercise of the day before and the drinking session that night, that i was basically a complete and utter zombie. I was so tired that it was actually too much effort to eat food! Luckily the day was a travel day between Cesky Krumlov and Prague so it was totally acceptable to sit there and look like a complete zombie not saying anything to anyone. After a good nights sleep last night (well the usual 5 1/2 hours anyway - for some reason I do not seem to be able to sleep past 5:30am at the moment. My body just pings awake.) I was in much better form today. Much much better form. So much so that Susan and I were ... read more

Today was a lovely day. The weather was fantastic. A perfect blue sky day. Our tour guide told us that he specially ordered the weather for us with a couple of sacrifices. We started off the day with a lovely breakfast of the typical local fare. Bread and cheese and ham :) The first order of the day was a wee bike ride through the hills behind of Cesky Krumlov. This was an absolutely beautiful thing to do. The only problem with the ride was the fact that there were not enough hills. Going up the hills I mean. Instead they took us up to the top of the hills in a van and then basically all we had to do was free wheel our way back to the village. Totally understandable for the people on ... read more

Today we headed off from Vienna from towards the Czaech Republic. We were meant to have our private mini van transport arrive from us at 9:30am. However our tour leader left a note for us in the morning saying that the bus had been delayed until 11:00. And then when we got downstairs for the 11:00 bus that the bus had been delayed until 12:00. So Susan and I decided that we would walk into town and check out the shops for a little while until we had to catch the bus. This of course meant that we managed to find the Zara store and of course I had to purchase a couple of new t-shirts. The day was actually quite a bit of a transport day in the end with the drive to Cesky Krumlov ... read more

Today we caught the train to Bratislava for a day trip from Vienna. Our tour leader had told us that there wasn't all that much to do in Bratislava and that we would probably only end up spending about 4 hours there before we headed back to Vienna. However we actually ended up spending most of the day there. We started the day by catching the 9:28 train from the Sudbahnhof and since it only takes an hour to get to Bratislava by train (apparently only 60kms away) we were there by 10:30. After a quick tram ride into town we were ready for a wander around the old train of Bratislava. Our first stop on our wee walking tour (after a wee coffee break in a little cafe) was the castle. Unfortunatley the interior of ... read more

We left jubljana nice and early on Saturday morning for the long drive to Vienna. The drive itself was rather lovely except for the wee problem that it started to rain and really was rather cold. In fact it was so cold that when we got to the top of the mountains between Slovenia and Austria it actually started to snow. Yes that is right, snow at the end of May. First of all it was just raining really hard and then it started to sleet and then it finally turned to snow, just as the temperature nudged 3 degrees. However once we hit Vienna things improved a little bit. The hotel that we are staying in is down by the river. However when we first arrived there it was still raining, so rather then venture ... read more

Today we headed off for a look at what is apparently Slovenia most popular tourist attraction, the Postojna Caves. These caves are about an hours drive southish from Ljubljana (a little longer when you factor in the road works and traffic time). The caves themselves are massive and are apparently the largest in Slovenia, at 20km long, although not the largest in the world which are located in the USA and are over 500km long. The tourist section of the Posotjna Caves are only 5.7kms long. The only problem with visiting these caves is the fact that they are sooooo popular and that you can only get into the caves if you can take a guided tour, and the tours only leave every hour. We got there at 9:08am which meant that we had to wait ... read more

It was with a sad heart that I said goodbye to Bled and caught the bus to Ljublana at lunchtime yesterday. However to console myself for my upcoming departure I booked myself in to have a manicure at the wellness spa that was attached to my pension. At first I was a little disappointed with my manicure (she made me bleed while she was cutting my cuticles) however when she added a gorgeous little flower design onto my little finger nails and then when I realised that in different lights the base coat of the french manicure that she gave me glows subtly different colors, well now I think it is one of my best manicures ever. Totally loving it. Ljublana is a lovely city. However I didn't really see a lot of it yesterday as ... read more

Today I decided to take of the pension bikes and head out to Triglavski National Park to take a look at Vingtar Gorge. The lady at the front desk had said that the bike ride out there was easy, but slightly uphill. I decided that she was a little mistaken about the slightly uphill park when I came to a hill that I had to go down into the second lowest gear to climb. However the ride out to the gorge was just lovely. I managed to get some great panoramas on the way there. You have to pay to enter the gorge, but the money is totally worth it. The Triglavski National Park and the Vingtar Gorge are just beautiful. Once you enter the gorge you walk 1600m down from the entrance along the ... read more

Today was heaven and hell. The hell was the fact that I got on a train yesterday (after a full day of sightseeing) and spent the next 12 hours awake on trains travelling to get to Slovenia. The first train was a lovely train that took me from Berlin to Munich. This train was the epitome of German cleanliness and efficiency. Although it was a frightfully busy train, the route must be very popular. After an hour's stopover at Munich (from 22:50 to 23:40) I hopped on board a not so nice train to complete my journey from Munich to Bled, Slovenia. The train wasn't all that bad (especially after some of the ones in India) however it was certainly a step down from the other train. The biggest problem with the train was the fact ... read more

Today was a glorious weather day. Blue skies all around. It was also my last day in Berlin before I had to leave in the late afternoon to catch an overnight train to Slovenia. I had already been to Berlin before so I wasn't all that interested in visiting any of the tourist sites, however neither Andy or MK had been to Berlin before so they were keen to check some of the sites out. This meant that I ended up in the morning hitting some of the more typical tourist sites of Berlin. And just had the best time doing it. First of all we headed off to the Potsdamer Platz to take a look at the site where Hitlers bunker used to be. We had a little bit of trouble trying to locate the ... read more
