Bonjourno! This week I've been catching my rest from Budapest and gearing up for a trip to Florence and Pisa, Italy! We started our journey having to travel up north about an hour to Girona airport, staying overnight in the airport to catch our super early flight. (Like I said, early bird get's the cheap flight!) Thank goodness I'd loaded up some movies and slept on the plane and bus that took us to Florence. The Pisa airport is another 45 minutes from the center of Florence, where we met up with a few girls also from Plattsburgh that are studying there. We got to walk along the cobblestone roads past a ton of shoe, watch, leather and gelato shops! We dropped our stuff off at the girls' cute apartment, complete with a brick kitchen, lofted ... read more

Hello All!! Sorry I didn't get this up earlier, I forgot my memory card in my computer in Barcelona while I was venturing off to Budapest! Budapest is the capital of Hungary and is split in two (Buda/Pest) by the Danube River. Along the river there are many Bridge, the most famous is the Chain Bridge lit up at night. All the bridges were destroyed by the Nazi's when they left Hungary. Since Hugary was taken over by many different countries in different decades (Romans, Turks, Austrians) there are many kinds of architechture and style of buildings. When we first arrived it looked a lot like I imagine riverfront Poughkeepsie was about 10 years ago. The billboards and signs are kind of old school and there aren't many modern cars cruising around. The lack of cars ... read more

Bona Tarda! Looking back in my posts I realized that I haven't yet taken you through an "average" day here for me in Barcelona! I wanna walk you through the apartment I live in and this weekend's festivities! The apartment is about 20 minutes walk from our University off a main road in Barcelona called "Gran Via de les Corts", most of the streets here are in Catalan and not Casillian Spanish. Right down the street from us we have the Arena's Mall, Montjuic and different shops. Nuria's apartment is actually two seperate ones, with a door in the wall to connect them for more space. Walking in the first rooms you pass are the pantry room with our refrigerator, cereals, fruits and chocolate (yumm!). Next is our bathroom for just us three girls, with a ... read more

Bona Tarde everyone!! Sorry for the delay, my week was slow until Carnaval and I wanted to steal people's pictures to post!! Carnaval is a 5 day long festival fit with costumes, pride and confidence for all that celebrate it. The reason Carnaval falls on this week is (to be blunt) to get all your sins out and over before Ash Wednesday. On Thursday, the first night of craziness, the "King" arrives into town and there is a parade in his honor. There were also parades other nights, full of groups in theme outfits shakin' what their madres gave them! The parade is so energetic and full of color, lights, glitter and all kinds of people coming together. It looks a lot like people dressed up for halloween watching the Macy Day Parade, but only the ... read more

Hola/ Bonjour!! So much for having a boring week once classes started! This week was full of surprises, first time experiences and new adventures! The blog is a day late because of my flight back from Paris :) On Sunday Nuria made her ninas so much food for lunch we could barely move, 3 plates full and on top of that we had dinner 6 hours after. Sunday's work differently and lunch is the biggest meal of the day, which I am very sad I missed yesterday! Tuesday I got a call from a guy my friend and I had met who sells the tickets to the Barcelona Games, asking us if we would like to go watch Wednesday's Valencia game from his private box! Of course we said yes and we're able to bring a ... read more

Bon Dia!! Happy Superbowl Sunday everyone, Go Giants! Wish I was able to snack and enjoy you all yelling at the t.v. :) Classes started this week, so I don't have as many "fun" things to talk about. I am taking a language class, Catalan language, Women's writers, and General History of Spain. I like my teachers, so far and am excited to have a routine and improve my spanish knowledge. Also, with all of Nuria's amazing food, I joined a gym on Las Ramblas and am excited to get back in the swing of things. This weekend some friends and went to the clubs to see how these spaniards spend their nights! Friday we went to a place called Opera, which was a really neat atmosphere and had great lighting. The next night we went ... read more

Bon dia! This week has felt like a month with all of the activities we have done! I'm going to try my best to set up the pictures in the order of the week. Monday we we're able to meet our directors, Maria, Ana and Pedro to give us the deal on general safety and housing issues (no alcohol, no visitors, walk in 2's). Basically what Mom kept saying at the airport ;). Finally being able to put faces with 'Facebook' names was exciting. You can always tell who the american students are in Barcelona. We stand in a circle that gets larger and larger then breaks off into smaller circles and we're obnoxiously LOUD. Go figure! Most of us spent the first day wondering the city and trying to get a feel for our new ... read more

Hola familia y amigos!! I landed safely around 7:30 this morning with no trouble and barely any turbulence! A few of us shared a cab and got to see the sleeping city...except for the MARATHON starting shortly after we all got to our houses. My host mom, Nuria, is so sweet and loves to cook (not good news for my waistline!). We, my two roomates and I, each have our own room and share a bathroom! After dinner we were able to get a small tour of the most beautiful city I think I have ever seen! It got dark pretty fast so I couldn't take a ton of pictures but I'll put up the few I took! Tomorrow we all start orientation and finally get to meet and greet all of the "Oswego" crew! Besos, ... read more
