thinking... I am an American from Hollywood California Living in China (Wukang, near Hangzhou). I am contemplating a trip to Yunnan Province and then off to Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. I have not ventured into these areas yet, but the fascination bug has bitten (hopefully not harboring any sort of tropical disease). I was wondering if you had taken any type of boat excursions on your trip thus far. I am thinking of catching a boat from Yunnan Province China to Luang Prabang and then to Vientiane. Did you consider a boat in lieu of the bus? Any information would be so kindly appreciated (hotels, travel hints and so on). If you are thinking of coming to China you can stay at our place here (a very special small city at the foot of some very well known mountains). I am semi retired and ready to explore the world as I did when I was a younger man (53 and going strong).

Cary,
Your Indian subcontinent sojourn sounds amazing. Very Dickensian in its own way. My trek in Nepal was small potatoes compared to this! I did experience the competition for bus seats on my way back to Khatmandu and can empathise with the long bus ride.

Drunk Fat Man Wow!!! You are a better man than me... I can't deal with snoring from other people. He may have found his tongue cut out the next morning if that would have been me. The rest of it sounds cool though... Had to feel good to see some Texas girls.
Hey Gillit!
Glad to hear you enjoyed Edinburgh - bar the weather, of course.
Did you have a glass of wine at Maxine's by any chance? Interesting about Brussels...I would have thought it had more to offer. Glad to hear you ran into some Americans - I'm sure that was a nice change for ya. Hope your hostels improve as the trip goes on!!

Pubs I wish I knew you were going to be in Belfast, I would have told you to go to Kellys Cellars. It's around 300 years old and cool as hell. It looks like a dive well it is kind of a dive but its a blast. Sounds like you have started your trip out right.

Tres Amigos Found your blog and pictures. Funny you should post the Tres Amigos picture as your first entry. Last night Dad made me pickup the Exercise room and in a box of old picture frames was the picture of you three guys in your tuxedos at the High School Prom. In those days you all had more hair on your head and they had less on their face. But non-the-less, some nice looking guys as the girls would all attest. Keep us posted and have a good time.
