Hey everyone! I know its been a while since I last blogged but I just wanted to quickly tell everyone I'm still alive. I've just been told the cafe closes in 5 min so this will be a quick post. Everything has changed since I last posted. New tour leaders, new people on the tour and new countries. To date I've traveled through Kenya Tanzania Malawi Zambia Namibia Botswana South Africa and Mozambique. My favorite has been Tanzania because of the amazing National Parks, culture and people. I'm on the beach in Mozambique right now and its almost dinner time. Fresh fish and crayfish tonight that was bought in the local market. I will be in South Africa again soon where internet is more accessible so I will post again asap!!! Missing everyone back home and ... read more

Africa » Zambia » South Luangwa December 28th 2009

Helloo everyone! A quick hello from Zambia! It has been a action packed last few days! It has included my first aid skills, bar fights, Christmas Mass in the local village, listening to my new favorite music artists on the beach, an elephant charging at our safari truck (barely missed us) and no dry clothing. I'm really learning a lot about the local cultures and different ways of life. The western way is not always the right way and even though everything takes sooo long here, it makes the destination so much more enjoyable. I'm also learning about myself and working on making the qualities I like in other people the qualities I like about myself (in my own way of course). One of the best things I've learned is everyone has a story. I often ... read more

HELLOOO everyone! I'm only 9 days into this trip and already so much has happened. I've had most of the bad typical travelers experiences... flight delay, lost luggage, upset stomach, a MASSIVE beetle landing in my wine, the truck breaking down, sunburn... this list could go on. But the amount of amazing things that have happened totalllyyy makes up for everything. I'm the youngest on my trip by 2 years but most people are 28+. there is about 25 of us on the trip. The range of age is 18 to about 60 but believe it or not old people can be fun!!! hahaha Everyone on the trip is very interesting, we have everyone from a Geologist to Robotics Engineer/semi-pro motorcycle racer. They are from Canada, the U.S., England, Wales, Australia and Finland. For those of ... read more

I have just had craziest day of my entire life... Right now I'm sitting in a 5 star hotel in the presidential sweet that rents for 2500 USD a night in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania hundreds of miles from where I thought I would be 24 hours ago. HOW might you ask did I get HERE?? well... After leaving London I had to connect to the Nairobi flight in Zurich, Switzerland. We flew into Zurich just as the sun was rising over the most beautiful view of the Swiss Alps! Completely breath taking! I hustled to my second flight that was to Nairobi. Once on this plane I could already feel a different atmosphere. Everyone was talking to each other! I found this so strange because I've never even spoken to the person next to me!! ... read more

This is it. Three hours until I'm off to London Heathrow Airport and on my way to Nairobi, Kenya. WOW!! My time in England has flown by and I can't believe its time for the next stage of my gap year! I've had a wonderful stay here and was able to see all of my family! This past weekend I took a train from Reading to London and then to Manchester to visit my cousin Alex at University. So much fun. We went clubbing with 3 of his house mates and I had a amazing time! It's much different then Toronto.. the atmosphere, music, dancing... everything! After staying at Alex's for 2 nights I took another train to my aunt and uncle's new farm house in the beautiful English countryside. The next day I returned to ... read more

I can't believe its November 20th already. 10 days away from my departure date to England. For the past 3 months I have been working full time at Sportinglife, a retail store by my house, saving up for the next 6 months. I am now at home in Toronto packing a few.... very few things things to bring with me. All I have is a backpack. its a pretty big backpack but if you have ever seen me travel or go to camp you know fitting 6 months of stuff into a big backpack is pretty much impossible. I have received all my vaccines and visas and am ready to take off. Im soooo excited but I'm also getting a bit nervous mostly because I have no idea what to expect. I've read about the places ... read more
