Day 26. We stayed longer at First Landing. A very nice beach and built sand Throwns. We were on the beach before 8AM and left it around 12/1. Stopped to build a present for mom out of shells and hit the road toward Williamsburg. Another good day for the boys.... read more

Day 25. Before Cannon woke up I went down to the lake and took some great shots of the canoes. See attached. We left Appomattox early in the morning and hit VA Beach at noon. We spent 4 hours on the beach enjoying the water and views. Then Pizza to go and a quick drive to our campgrounds at First Landing State Park. This is the area that the founders of Jamestown landed. The beach was great. Cannon was able to go crabbing (no luck) and we went to a campfire in the park. We ended the night with a walk on the beach looking for ghost crabs. Then to bed. We changed our plans and stayed at first landing until about 2pm the next day to enjoy more beach time. This caused us to miss ... read more

Day 26. We left The Rivermen in West Virginia early in the morning and drove backroads thru Virginia toward Appomattox. The country side was beautiful and I know why my parents had a hard time deciding if they were to retire from the Air Force in Nebraska or Virginia. They may have missed the ball on that one. Although we didn't hike on the AT we did stop on the way for photos at the sign. When we drove into Appomattox we went straight to the Historical Site. Obviously it was great to see the historical buildings where Lee Surrendered the Northern VA forces to Grant, but the true enjoyment was listening to both Union and Confederate soldiers tell stores in character. ... read more

Cannon was insistent that he wanted to go zip lining. If you aren't familiar with zip lining it is a blast. See the videos and photos to prove it. I was only going to pay for him to go but he kept calling me chicken. Truth was I wasn't sure he could handle it and have problems up in trees. I was proven wrong. He was a monkey in the trees and I had more fun than I have in a long time. We ran 10 separate zip lines ranging from 300 to 900 feet and were everwhere from 40 to 140 feet in the air. Wow. Save this URL and think about coming here on a vacation. www.rivermen.com... read more

3 Class V rapids 6 Class IV rapids and a but load of Class II and III. Sissys stay home. The boys took it on and had a blast. That said I was scared #$%less. Photos will have to be posted after the trip as they are on a waterproof camera but we jumped from cliffs. floated the river (intentionally) and paddled until we couldn't do it anymore. One thing that does motivate you is ROCKS. Big rocks and when your guide say swim left if you fall out on this rapids because on the right they call it "meat grinder" and they don't go in after you. I found out afterwards. He wasn't kidding. The Rivermen were great. Of 4 boats the only person who fell out was our guide during a class V. I ... read more

Father's Day. Well the day started with excitement. I woke early and dug out our clothes for a 4.5 hour cave tour where cannon and I would crawl through small caves. We had to have jeans, boots over our ankles, gloves, and kneepads. Well... Here lies the problem. Dad could only find one of his boots. I wore them Friday but where can it be. I tore the car apart. Then I woke cannon and gave him bad news. He was a trooper. We went to tour office and they refunded us and booked us on a historic walking tour in the morning and cannon on a Trog for the afternoon. Kind of a light version of the one we were going on but limited to 8 to 12 year olds and parent couldn't go. He ... read more
