death Hi David, another thoughtful and moving piece from you. I really enjoy your blog and can see how much you have thought about the events and behaviour you observe. Thanks for sharing it all.
women Hi David, I enjoyed this perceptive entry in your blog, and you make a good point about the relatively poor representation of women in public office in the UK. I always find your blog interesting, so keep it up. I hope Chris and Ann's visit goes well. Look after them!

Matembe You forgot to tell them about Mrs Miria Matembe. As a firespitting MP in the 80s, she almost single handedly persuaded parliament to ammend the Penal Code, raising the age of sexual consent for girls from 14 to 18 years. Now it an offence (defilement) if you have sex witha girl below 18 yrs an this has helped a bit in keeping girls in school. Also, she had wanted stronger punishment for rape/defilement convicts: decapitation of the offending organ. But she's a mother to 3 sons, and was persuaded by male MPs to drop this painful option.
Interesting Hey man - i've been following your blogs for some time and just wanted to say HI. This is really interesting. And is forcing me to reconsider my knee jerk reaction that "grassroots" is always better. Good food for thought. Thanks for sharing.
thank you It's so great to read your blog David. Your very honest and full descriptions of details of how things are bring it all to life for us here in the UK. Looking forward to more insightful, funny and profound entries!
Great description Thanks -- your description is very vivid and I can almost feel how humid it is. Look forward to more news. How's the language learning going? Or does everyone speak English to you?
I arrived in Uganda in January 2011 with my girlfriend Lauren through Inter Cultural Youth Exchange UK (ICYE) to work for UYWEFA, a small community-based organisation in Kazo, Wakiso District (a small village / suburb outside Kampala) and lived with a Ugandan family full-time for 6 months.
I then moved to Jinja for a year working as Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator for a youth-led development agency with staff and volunteers from all over Uganda and a few internationals.
I have now returned to live in the UK buy I met some of the most fantastic people in the world whilst in Uganda ... full info
