After another unsuccessful 'sunbathing' day in Ko Samui we were hoping to find better weather on the West coast of Thailand.......FAIL! We arrived in Ao Nang in an almighty downpour and were taken to the Mild Bungalows where we sought shelter before catching the most amazing punked up tricycle tuk-tuk into the town. We had dinner and failed to find any kind of nightlife but we did however spot our first monkey! Day 2 in Ao Nang and we were meant to be heading to James Bond Island, but a knock on our door at 7.50am informed us that unfortunately the boat would not be leaving due to a 'big big storm'. great. Another lie-in was therefore granted and we then decided to attend Thai Cooking School instead as this was rain friendly!! Having cooked a ... read more

Seeing as it was pouring with rain in the morning were unable to 'sunbathe' until lunchtime which soon turned into rainbathing. Despite the weather Becky still managed to obtain a spectacular sunburn with factor 50, cloud, rain and shade!! In the evening we decided to head to Ko Samui's main town Chaweng. Fortunately there were far fewer 'girly' bars and we tried some XXXXXXL shopping with Elin managing to purchase a bikini for less than a fiver bringing the saleswoman close to tears! after dinner we were cornered by yet more tailors but this was a special tailors who offered free beer, which was gratefully received! despite not offering clothing they told us to check out the local cabaret which was exceptionally entertaining and very confusing! Having been dazzled by the beauty and talents of the ... read more

Day 20 and we caught the ferry to a very overcast Ko Samui! The beach resort is really lovely and we're again right on the beach with amazing views and some very appealing sunbeds...if only the sun would come out!!! We ventured into town and purchased some bracelets and earrings (Camilla and Becky lost theirs to the ocean!!) and then headed back via the beach to shower ready for what we were hoping would be another good evening in Thailand...It started well we had an amazing dinner, Camilla and Elin had stir-fried shark whilst Becky stepped up her game to tackle the red curry! But upon leaving the restaurant it came very apparent that Lamai beach's clientele is more of the older male gender in search of slightly different entertainment of the local female variety!! So ... read more

Having slept until 12.30 we awoke a little delicate and so headed to the cosy bungalows chill-out area for a well-needed baguette and sunbathe! and a swimming costume repair for Becky whose stitching leaves much to be desired......! We then decided to venture back into town and looked through the market but were caught slightly off guard by the downpour of all downpours! monsoon had officially hit! seeking refuge under an empty house front Camilla ran 20m across the road and now fully soaked managed to get us a lift from a lovely Thai lady who dropped us back at the bungalows very soggy but ready for our Massaman curries and a DVD with the locals! Valentines Day it was! ... read more

Today was an early start for Camilla and Elin who had their final 2 dives, this time to 18m on the worlds 3rd best dive site! These dives were a lot scarier as even though we were 18m down we still couldn't even see the bottom but the sealife was really beautiful and we were moving a little more gracefully underwater now luckily for the coral! Apart from Elin's minor encounter with a sea urchin we survived dive 1 and then braced ourselves for our final dive which involved a compass and a full on mask removal 12m under water! Again we exceded ours and Jules' expectations and perfomed all the tasks (once Elin had figured out how to use a snorkel!) and we headed back to land to sit our written exam! We met Becky ... read more

So today was the day we were going to go 12m down into the ocean! After yet more theory we had lunch then headed to the boat which precariously crossed the shallow water to the Coral Grand Boat! Just as Jules was getting us set up we spotted a massive pod of dolphins which are apparently really rare in Thailand and it was fantastic to see so many of them jumping out of the water and swimming underneath the boat! And that was before we even got into the water!! Having calmed down Jules got us all set up but was a little scared that we had completely forgotton what the buddy checks were, but having been recapped we geared up and Dead Mexicaned into the water! Swimming to the line was eventful and when the ... read more

Day 2 on Turtle Island began with more studying before heading to the equipment room to get kitted up! Jules had placed us in size order which naturally left us on the larger end next to our lovely but very tiny Danish girls! Fortunately we managed to fit into the wetsuits and we headed to the pool where we began to assemble the equipment. The water was interesting to say the least and we weren't quite as mermaid like as we had hoped but after a lot of giggling and testing of Jules patience we managed to submerge ourselves and performed all the tasks underwater which was a surreal but really good experience! We'd survived the pool but we were ever so slightly anxious about venturing into the actual sea the next day, and I think ... read more

After a very early start we finally boarded the ferry following a precarious walk along a questionable 'pier'!! We arrived in Ko Tao to yet more rain but we weren't too worried seeing as we were going to be spending the next 4 days underwater learning to scuba dive!! Coral Grand Dive resort was really pretty and we were introduced to our diving instructor, Jules, who told us about the course which sounded really exciting, although we were slightly worried about the homework and studying which after 3 hours of buoyancy, density and regulators left us a little daunted about the prospect of getting in the water the next day!! After dinner with the 2 Danish girls who were in our diving group we headed back to our room where we were greeted by a delightful ... read more

The train journey to Chumpon was long and we arrived in a very wet Chumpon ready to catch the ferry. Unfortunately the lovely Jeffrey at TAT had forgotton to tell us that the ferry leaves at 7am each morning, and so at 3.30pm we were standing in Chumpon station wondering whether we would ever make it to the islands!! Fortunately we found some cheap accommodation and a shopping mall where we had pizza and ice cream! (Elin and Camilla were still a little queasy at the sight of thai food!!) and had an early night ready for our 5am start the next morning!... read more

Our last day in Chiang Mai was eventful to say the least!! It began with Camilla's stomach feeling a little delicate, but after some tablets we managed to go to the Tiger Kingdom where we posed with 3 massive tigers, which were a little drowsy to say the least but had very powerful tail flicks and got some very intimate tiger photos taken!! Camilla was then draped with pythons and mildly molested by them before Elin and Becky tried them too but a little less keenly!! After an exciting morning we headed back to the hotel and waited to leave to catch the overnight train to Bangkok which didn't quite go to plan.....within about 10 minutes of boarding Camilla and Elin were taking it in turns to use the toilet and were looking ever so slightly ... read more
