Day 58 and we cheked out and onto the beach before making our way to the harbour where we boarded our home for the next 3 days....Freight Train! The boat was ever so slightly cosy for 21 people but having met our delightful captain we spent the afternoon chilling on the deck before getting into our sexy stinger suits to go snorkelling on the Barrier Reef! We jumped back on board and had an amazing feast after mooring up for the night! We decided to head to our bunks early as we were getting up for sunrise however we needn't have bothered as none of us were able to sleep more than an hour....Elin was so hot she tried sleeping on deck but the, heat, rain and constant wave bashing were too much and so we ... read more

Today we had several hours to kill before our final overnight bus journey and so we did what we do best and sat on the beach before heading to the bus terminal to shop and eat! Having stocked up on supplies we boarded the bus and spent several hours of double seat luxury before the bus stopped at Agnes Water to pick up a bus load of passengers! Sneakily we managed to pull off fake sleeping and our double seats were retained and we managed a fairly successful nights sleep as far as buses go and we arrived in Airlie Beach the next morning at 7am! Check-in wasn't until 11.30 so we had no choice but to sit in Mc Donalds and abuse the free wi-fi!! After checking in we headed to the man-made lagoon infront ... read more

After another 6am start we packed up camp and headed out in the cars across the beach to the shipwreck, which having had driven past it approx. 3 times we were finally able to stop at for a photo moment! Our next stop was the one we had been most excited about...the bakery!! One of the only shops on the island we enjoyed some delicious confectionary before the second most exciting stop...Lake Mackenzie! The beautiful white sand and clear blue water was a little dulled by the cloud and rain at first but luckily we persevered and the sun came out and we were able to enjoy the lake in all its glory! Our final stop was Lake Mackenzie's little brother according to Pete and it was equally as beautiful and so our car decided to ... read more

On day 54 we discovered that our guide Pete was more interested in plants than we first imagined, and after driving for approx. 2 hours through even bumpier terrain we discovered that our 6am start had been in vain as we arrived at a lake with a 2m viewing platform for turtles! The turtles were cute but after 30mins we had seen enough and so we set off for yet another hour and a half of bone jerking to arrive at......a tree!!!! The tree was slightly more interesting than normal trees but after 15mins of looking at the tree we were ever so slightly disgruntled and we got back in the cars once again with Elin behind the wheel to arrive at a very wet and not so interesting lake for lunch!! Not impressed by an ... read more

We assembled early in the morning to watch a thrilling DVD about driving in sand (Fraser Island is made entirely out of sand!) and met our guide Peter who then introduced us to our cars! The 4wd was loaded and we set off to the ferry where after some hairy reversing we caught the boat to Fraser! After an hour off-road drive through Jurassic Park like scenery we stopped at a rainforest which we walked through before heading on to Lake Wabby. The journey was once again bumpy and the car was almost horizontal at several points but we all made it and arrived at the start of a 40min hike to the top of the most amazing sand dunes which led down to Lake Wabby. The views were spectacular and after a refreshing dip in ... read more

We awoke in the bush early this morning in order to catch the bus to Hervey Bay! We were ever so slightly excited to be leaving Gagaju and after a long bus journey we arrived in Hervey Bay from where we would be heading out to Fraser Island. That evening we had our tour meeting and the 30 of us were divided into 4 cars! Our group of 8 was thankfully the best of the bunch and we were scared to high heaven by the Island briefing which involved a description of possibly every single thing that could kill us, car and animal!! We wrote our shopping list in the presence of a delightful little possum which kept jumping onto the table, making Elin run a mile, but we managed to complete our big brother style ... read more

After a very cosy night in the tent, which thankfully was secure from spiders, we awoke to day number 2 of canoeing! Ever so happy to be reunited with our boat and paddles we set off down the river this time to yet another lake which would lead us to a 2.5km 'bush hike'. Thankfully this 'hike' was entirely along the main road and so we arrived at the beach which was completely deserted! The waves were amazing and we spent most of the afternoon lying on the beach and in the sea before 'hiking' back to the boats! Luckily the hike was broken up by several kanagaroo sightings and we arrived at the boats ever so slightly exhausted but desparate to get back to land! The paddle back was long but we made it ashore ... read more

Having counted down the hours until we could get out of bed we escaped the spiders and prepared for our first day of canoeing! Our group of 9 was split into 3 full size Canadian canoes and so naturally we decided to stick together and brave the river as a threesome! To say our steering was a little off is an understatement but after a 2 hour 'paddle' against the current and across a very wavy lake we abandoned ship early and decided to walk the rest of the distance along the shore! We arrived at the second oldest pub in Australia where we had lunch amongst the Kookaburras before a little recovery break on the beach! We went back to the boats which were unfortunately still where we had left them and decided that a ... read more

Today was the day we had been ever so slightly apprehensive about....the start of our 3 day bush camp: Gagaju!! We waited at the bus stop and were met by Alan, a very 'attractive' Australian man in his 50s with possibly the most frightening laugh we'd ever heard! He took us to a lookout point to show us where we would be camping before dropping us at the supermarket to pick up our supplies for the camp! Arriving in Gagaju we were a little stunned by our sleeping arrangements, a delightful 'dorm' tent which looked like something out of the army that had been rotting in cobwebs for years! Upon our tour Camilla and Becky were instantly squealing at the sight of the huntsman spiders which were littering both the inside and outside of the very ... read more

We said goodbye to Sophie and caught the bus to Noosa Heads, Australia's posh beach resort where house prices start at around 10million! Unfortunately however our budget only stretched to a 16 bed dorm which we reached after a a mammoth walk up a massive hill, rucksacks, goon and all!! We relaxed on the beach and then had a fairly chilled evening with a very disappointing cold and mouse-sized free meal! The following day we decided to explore the national park and went the full monty walking the whole 7km track! The views of the coast were beautiful and we even saw a koala sleeping in a tree! After our walk we stayed on the beach a little longer before an evening of karaoke with our dorm! X factor auditions next year.....!?... read more
