Finally home. I had an amazing trip! I really didn't want to leave but you have to go home some time. Man was it an expensive trip. After adding up everything that I did, I spent about $3,000. This includes my plane ticket. It's nice to be back home but man that was a great get away. I feel like I understand my Opa more and connected with my Great Oma. Can't wait to go again!... read more

Today was one of my favorite days being here. We visited the Keukenhof Gardens which are known world wide for it's beauty and only open during the spring. They have over 50 million different types of gorgeous flowers and over 2,000 different types of tulips. I took a ton of pictures for my photography that I enjoy doing. Not only did they just have millions of different flowers, but they had swans! It was fun to observe them during our picnic. There were so many amazing things to see in these gardens that I don't know if I saw it all. It was so open and beautiful. I honestly can not discribe how beautiful it was. I think this place is my new favorite place on earth.... read more

For a brunch my aunt, uncle and I went to the Pancake Backery. They have 79 varieties of pancakes! I was in heaven, although, some were really different from what I would call a pancake. I don't think I have ever heard of a pancake with lamb in it. I (of course) got the chocolate pancakes. The best chocolate is in Holland. The reason why we went here for brunch was because it is right next to Anne Franks Huis. This is the real place of the annex. Now it is a museum for everyone to come and see. I liked seeing it because I felt like it helped me connect to my Great Oma. It was another side to what my Oma did. They also had an exhibit on the people that hid Anne and ... read more

After several really busy days I just wanted to relax with my aunt and uncle. I want to observe more of their family dynamics and see what they do on a normal day. Hopefully, this wil be the final peice of understanding the Dutch culture. Today I get to meet more of my extended family. I am nervous, but I think it will turn out good. My cousin Erik Jr. is a cartoonist and I am excited to meet him and see more of his amazing work.... read more

Today's activities were a full day as well. It was a 10 hour and 30min tour about everything The Netherlands are known for. This time Aunt Eeva and Uncle Erik came with me. I saw tons of windmills. They are surprisingly huge and there are a lot of them. They took us to a Delft shope where they hand paint every china peice. Of couse I had to buy a couple of them. My favorite part was when the took us through a cheese factory where they make cheese the old way. We got to try a bunch of delicious cheese.... read more

The Van Gogh museum is located far outside the city, therefore, I went to this attraction on my own. I wanted to see absolutely everything in it so I knew I would be a while. I ended up spend basically the whole day there learning about Van Gogh and his paintings. They also showed work by Gauguin, Monet and a couple others. I was so facinated by all the artistry that I forgot completely about lunch and ended staying until they kicked me out.... read more

Today was a low key day after staying up very late on our cruise last night. Aunt Eeva showed me around the town and we went shopping. She took me to all of her favorite stores along with some new ones for my pleasure. I got some nice clothes that I could only find here because it is Amsterdam fashion. It was a nice relaxing day. After Shopping we rented a little boat and paddled around the city finding a place for dinner. Though it was very low key I really enjoyed getting the know my Aunt Eeva a bit more.... read more

Below is a music video that is really popular in the Netherlands. I find it weird that it is in English and most of the artists sing in English. It is kind of a weird video. I don't really like the song but they do.... read more

After breakfast, we hung around the house doing a puzzle and talking. Since I have never met them we still need to get to know one another. After lunch we went to Madame Tussauds wax figures museum. I have never been to any of them in the United States and I figured why not start in Amsterdam. I figured it would be interesting to see who is presented in the museum and compare it with one from the US at some point. For dinner we did a canals dinner cruise. This is where they cruise along the canals in Amsterdam while you are eating a four course meal. I won't be hungry for a while after this.... read more

My flight arrived at 7:50AM. It was awesome to finally meet my family in Europe. I didn't do much with activities today. I was really jet lagged so I took a nap a bit after I arrived at my Aunt Eeva and Uncle Erik's home. They gave me a tour of the home before I slept. Afterwards, I woke up and ate a sandwhich. It was a chicken and pesto sandwhich with some other toppings that my aunt made for me. I then left their home for a couple hours just walking around the neighborhood and observing the differences of things. Today was not full of activity, but I needed to adjust after that long flight.... read more
