We slept in a little today, probably due to the massive night last night. We headed for the visitor’s centre for breakfast and to get some souvenirs we wanted. On the way we stopped in the middle of the road because a small herd of buffalo were crossing. It was quite a sight and took a while as well but worth the wait. We shortly arrived at the visitor’s centre and Dave and Marcia went to get breakfast for some of us, the rest of us went looking around the store. I had a good look around and tried some clothes on and bought a warm jumper and a long sleeve top. Went back to Dave and Marcia and they were still waiting for breakfast. When they finally got it they had to queue in another ... read more

Up at 6AM today, one of our earliest days yet. We got ourselves ready and headed into Yellowstone National Park to explore again. First we headed to a few lookout points where you could see a huge waterfall pouring down into a stream in between the mountains a fantastic sight. Jon then took us to do a hike around an area of Yellowstone which wasn’t particularly interesting. We walked to a still lake through fields with some buffalo then met Jon for the walk back to the van a different way. There wasn’t really too much to see and we thought it was only a couple of miles but it seemed to go on and on for ages. We finally all made it back to the van and decided to go see some more volcanic type ... read more

We again woke quite early today, most of us with hangovers. We raced the other group to pack up all of our gear (we always won, they were so slow) and headed off to Yellowstone National Park. Yellowstone National Park is known for its volcanic activity since it is one giant volcano. It’s also the most actively volcanic place in the world. It wasn’t long before we had a quick photo stop at the entrance of Yellowstone where a big arch welcomed us into the national park. We then had a short drive down the road to a natural hot springs. We had all worn our bathers today so we could enjoy a swim in the hot springs. We took our gear and walked to the stream where there were already a few people swimming around. ... read more

Woke up very early today as we had a massive, massive drive. We had to drive to the hospital today and take Lucy to get her surgery. After hours on the phone, Jon finally worked out how we were going to do this. We were to drop Lucy off at a hotel nearby so she could get her operation done then rest afterwards. We’d then meet her in Chicago if she was well enough and she’d continue the tour with us. Soon after we packed the van we were on our way. We drove for almost 12 hours today before we finally arrived at the campsite. We had dropped Lucy off and stopped for lunch but besides that we’d been in the van all day long. We set up our tents and made dinner. Tonight we ... read more

Today we had a few hikes to do around the wonders of Glacier National Park. We got up early, ate breakfast and headed for Glacier National Park to hike. When we arrived there were plenty of people around ready to go hiking and there were also mountain goats roaming around. We started the hike but without Jon. Tour groups weren’t allowed in the National Park unless they were with an official tour guide, so for the duration of the hike we pretended we didn’t know Jon. The hike just went through a massive valley where glaciers once were a very long time ago. We were told to hike until we get to a lake which we did but we could only see it from a distance we were still very high. We took some photos and ... read more

Back into the USA today after an incredible time in Canada, we had a long drive back into America. We packed the van and made for the States. We stopped for lunch at a quiet town next to an old train and museum and had a look around this unusual but interesting quiet part of Canada. We stocked up on booze at the duty free another 10 or so slabs of beer. As we made for the border and went through the passport check, again being asked if we were a church group. But they had a slight problem with Lucy and I. When I took a flight from JFK to LAX they took out my green visa waiver card when they shouldn’t have, Lucy also didn’t have one. So at the border into Montana they ... read more

Today was our first completely free day where we could do anything we wanted. We slept in for as long as possible today, it was much needed after last night. Jon went to the store to get some things and made us breakfast. We got ready and Jon gave us a lift into town where most of us needed to use the internet. We had a look around some shops then searched for a decent internet café. When I finally found one I spent most of the day putting photos on DVD’s to free up my camera memory cards. Also spent quite a bit of time on facebook until my DVD’s were finally finished. When Dave and I left we couldn’t work out how to get back to the campsite. We were wandering around not even ... read more

Up early and all in the van ready to head out. Except Lucy who only just got back from a massive night out and had had no sleep. We were entertained by her stories of last night all the way to our first stop, Lake Louise. Now this place was something, a beautiful blue lake sitting in front of a valley of snow covered mountains, just a stunning sight. This was one of the places I had gone on this tour for, I couldn’t believe I was here. We started with a hike to a small tea house which overlooked Lake Louise. Jon told us it was a difficult hike which may take a few hours. We did it in less than one, pushing ourselves but eventually making it, stopping on the way for photos. We ... read more

Shortly after we’d gone to sleep, we woke up again, some of us only getting a couple of hours sleep. This morning we were going white water rafting but most of us felt way too hung-over for that but we pushed ourselves to do it anyway. Dave woke Jon up out of the trailer so we could get ready and he was furious. Jon was so angry he told me off for waking him up when I passed him on his way to the bathroom, I didn’t even know he was up. He gave us a small lecture when we were all in the van and told us never to force him up again then drove us to the rafting centre. It was quite calm at this time year so we weren’t expecting anything to extreme. ... read more

Up bright and early for a big day today, our first stop was Mt. Revelstoke. We drove most of the way up the mountain and did a small hike to reach the summit which offered us incredible views of the Canadian landscape, absolutely stunning. We met with the other trek group and got some group photos at the top then continued on with our hike. We had some amazing views of the landscape and could see many towns and rivers, after all we were over 6000ft high. We headed back down to the van and continued on driving. We had a lunch stop at a place called Roger’s Pass which didn’t have much more than a visitors centre, a small hotel, a diner (which had amazing wedges!) and a gift shop. We took a while browsing ... read more
