We slept in a little today because for some reason we were all so tired. We got ready, had breakfast and Jon took us to the cemetery where JFK was buried. There were a lot of military graves here and some very important people who died are buried here. We saw JFK’s grave which overlooked the city of Washington. We had some fantastic views from the cemetery which was located on a hill. Had a bit more of a look around then headed off downtown for lunch. On the way Dave and I wanted to get tickets for the Washington Monument, they were free but you had to pick them up in the morning. Jon dropped us off at the ticket centre right next to the Washington Monument and we’d meet him at the Old Post ... read more

We woke up today and were all pretty excited because we had two new people joining our group today. We met down into the hotel lobby and saw Jon for the first time in a few days. He looked totally different, much happier and he’d had a shave. We began to pack the trailer with our bags as Jon bought over two girls and introduced them. There was Amy who was the 20 year old and Hannah who was the 27 year old. We each introduced ourselves and had a big chat in the van, welcoming them into the group. They must have felt so intimidated being put in a group of people who had already been together for just over 4 weeks. For most of the day we chatted and got to know the new ... read more

We were doing a sightseeing cruise around the Statue of Liberty today, we got ready and left the hotel and arrived at the boat dock just in time for the cruise. We all bought Statue of Liberty hats and wore them around our cruise of the city. The cruise also had commentary about the different buildings and city landmarks we passed as we approached the Statue of Liberty. Passing it the boat went photo mad and everyone was scrambling to get the best shot they could as we circled the Statue of Liberty and headed for the Brooklyn Bridge. We went under the Brooklyn Bridge and also the Manhattan Bridge before it started spitting. The weather very quickly got much worse and by the time we were heading back to the dock it was absolutely pouring ... read more

Woke up, didn’t even need to pack much stuff as there were hardly any tents up, we got ready and headed to New York City. We drove quite a way and it didn’t help that Jon got lost on the way into New York. We were actually staying in New Jersey because that’s where the trek meeting hotel was. It was incredibly annoying because it cost us a fortune to get around. We arrived at the hotel and went up to our rooms. Again I was supposed to share with Ben, but I refused, Lucy and Min offered me a bed in their room and they share a bed so I didn’t have to share again with Ben. We got ready quickly and met downstairs and took the bus into New York. Jon went off to ... read more

Another very early day today but we were too excited to care what time we got up. After getting ready and packing the van we left the campsite on the way to Niagara Falls. It was a good five hour drive until we got to Niagara Falls and when we got there first thing we did is have lunch. Jon was insistent that we did not go get a sneak peak at the falls before we all went to have a look. But Ben just couldn’t help himself when he went to the bathroom he had to look. While we ate lunch, Jon told us that for the second half of the tour we’d have two extra people joining our group. He didn’t have their names yet but knew they were both female and one was ... read more

Today we barely did anything. That’s about it, we drove most of the day and arrived at our campsite in the early evening to cook dinner and have some drinks. Jon told us we could walk down to the lake if we wanted but apparently it was a long walk and we just couldn’t be bothered. We sat around the campsite drinking for most of the night and then the other trek group joined us in getting drunk. We were up quite late but were all looking forward to what was coming up tomorrow. Today was a day to explore the amazing city of Chicago. We started off trying to get out of bed and eventually managed but we were feeling quite ill today. We left the hostel and headed for a bike shop where we were taking a bike tour of Chicago. On the way we got a little lost and only just made it to the bike shop in time for the tour. I didn’t feel very confident riding a bike around the city so while we waited for people from the other trek I had a ride around for practice and it all came back to me quite quickly. Still no sign of anyone from the other group so after a half an hour wait we got our bikes (mine was called Trixie) and set off. We ... read more

We set our alarms to 5AM this morning, it was by far the earliest start so far. I took some photos of the campsite while we packed the van then watched the sunrise on our dive to Chicago. We stopped for a meeting and lunch just before we were approaching Chicago and Jon talked us through what we were going to do. He also said that we’d be meeting up with Lucy today, she was getting the train in to rejoin us after her knee operation. As we drove towards Chicago we could see the Sears Tower which towered high into the sky, a very impressive building. We drove around the streets of Chicago until we arrived at our HI hostel where almost the entire group was in the same dorm, it was great. We weren’t ... read more

Woke up with a sore head today, dragged myself out of bed and packed my stuff. We tidied up the ranch and loaded the van for a long day of driving. I went and took a few photos of the ranch as I was too drunk last night and shortly after we were on our way. We drove nearly all day long today and didn’t stop till around 4:40PM to have a look at the large green giant statue in Minnesota and get some rude photos with some strange cut out cardboard midgets. We got in the van and continued driving until we finally got to our campsite. We couldn’t be bothered cooking tonight so Jon went out and bought some pizzas with the food kitty cash. For the rest of the night we played some ... read more

Again we got up at 6AM to get ready and pack up our stuff. I took a few photos of the campsite before we hopped into the van and we were on our way. We stopped off at a petrol station where I finally found a half decent fitting pair of sunglasses and bought them. We drove for a couple of hours before stopping off at the Mount Rushmore National Memorial sign where we all took photos then headed for the famous Mount Rushmore. When we arrived Jon told us we have 45 minutes to have a look around before we had to set off again. We headed towards the amazing Mount Rushmore which was an extremely impressive sight. Another sight we had all seen on the television, it was hard to believe we were actually ... read more
